Turning an Essentials character into a non-Essentials character

To build on what RandomCitizen said, the Slayer and Knight have no encounter or daily powers (besides a reactive damage boost feature and utility powers) at all. So there's nothing to take the MP/PHB powers in the place of. That said, the base fighter is probably superior to a Knight (though...

    New Essentials Builds!

With the change to implement proficiency, you can just multiclass to something that gives proficiency with the weapon implement that you like, like a swordmage for blades.

Mighty Spirit + Claws of the Eagle?

I believe they actually don't interact at all. Claws says "one ally", not "allies". Mighty Spirit is a range boost, it doesn't spread benefits to extra allies.

    Having multiple companion spirit

Nope! It'd get kinda silly if you could, anyway. Best you can do is go Beastmaster Ranger and MC/hybrid Shaman for three Medium things.

    Ignorant questions about Essentials

I'd say it was more like, "Hey, our product line is getting pretty intimidating, and most of the people we think we can still hook are 3.5 and older fans. Let's make a new product that can stand alone with new class builds they might relate to more, and that still offer new options so that our...

    Ignorant questions about Essentials

    1. The full set of the Essentials (Heroes X, Monster Vault, DM thingy) should be enough to run a game with. Close to every rule is in the Rules Compendium as well. 2. Essentials is trying to be a partial reboot, is how I read it. They want a new starting point for people to get into the game...

Morrus attempts to update his PHB

Haha, I just took a pencil to mine. Yours probably looks nicer though!

Items to help with status effects.

Won't help stuns, but the Periapt of Cascading Health lets you instantly save vs daze. Someone else can take the Soldier of Virtue Paladin Multiclass feat, as well, and remove stunned, dazed and some other things once per day.

    MM3 Preview: MIMIC

Dang, I'm hoping "Son" of Kyuss is meant metaphorically. Pretty nasty picture in any case. Mimic looks interesting, and that's a dang high Perception DC to recognize it--higher than my level 16 Druid's passive, which is good. In the sense of making it possibly effective, that is.

Shaman Spirit - not very clear

Note that as a movable conjuration, if he ends his turn with no line of effect to the spirit, it vanishes.

Items that grant flight and teleportation.

Check out the Eagle's Flight ritual from Primal Power, which gives 12 hours of flight outside of combat.

Is it just me, or did Tiamat disappear from Compendium?

I don't believe she's ever been in. I think programming her statblock (with the five heads and all) might be difficult.

    May Rules Update

To be fair, the PHB is easily the most errata'd book, and even now it's still at least 80% compendium accurate. I keep my books up to date with a pencil, and it's not too difficult. On the other hand, my copies of Divine and Primal Power have next to no edits at all.

    Initiate of the Old Faith

That's essentially what they do--flying birds are off-limits until 6th level, when you can take Black Harbinger. In the meantime, you can look like whatever you want, because there's no reason to remove cosmetic possibilities when the mechanics work. Restrict yourself to ground animals if you...

Shaman/Spirit Rules Questions - so confusing!

It looks like 2 and 5 are the only things not covered by the faq, so: 2 - Yes, any move action you take lets you move the spirit. That includes moving a zone or just jogging in place. 5 - You must be in the zone to get the bonus. The spirit can't be buffed/debuffed by anything that doesn't...

    Battle Standard Of Healing

Source? I don't think things with an encounter duration automatically start an encounter and jolt you out of your rest. That would mean that a druid couldn't block off a passageway with Wall of Stone to let her party rest, for example.

    OA's while phasing...

I think that's an unnecessarily restrictive way of looking at phasing. After all, it says "you can move through...", not "obstacles no longer block your movement" or something similar. Would you let a wraith back against a wall if it chose to? I would. Choosing what's solid and what's not for...

    OA's while phasing...

"Move" is not that well-defined. Sliding, for example, isn't a movement type either, but still falls under the forced movement category. Would you let someone be slid through the floor if they had phasing and there was a cavern a few feet underground? If not, you're treating floors as different...

    OA's while phasing...

You don't need any special movement capabilities to fall, and the floor can certainly be considered an obstacle. I don't see how you couldn't let someone fall through the floor if they wanted, and the rest of my argument follows logically from that.
