Does everyone take Superior Weapon Proficiencies?

My Swordmage took Bastard Sword, and my Barbarian took Mordenkrad (and loves it, even in heroic-- he'll adore it in Paragon when he takes Hammer Rhythm). But my fellow party members haven't taken anything special, so far. I really like superior weapons, and wish there was some kind of implement...

    Previews for December and Beyond

Argh. Argh. Githyanki silver sword + psychic lock = permanent -2 penalty to all enemy attacks, forever. And it stacks for each person who has one. Such a terrible, terrible idea. On the plus side, Open Grave looks cool.

    Something weird about aspects

Haha, that'd have been pretty nasty, too... of course, I wouldn't have minded nearly as much, I'm a barbarian! I've got surges to spare. The weakening was a lot worse for me. But the squishier people would have really been in trouble in your version. I guess it balances out.

    Something weird about aspects

So it's you I can blame for the Wyrm-Wisps! My DM threw four of them at us (a level 2 party). We would have been toast if we hadn't had a paladin and cleric in the party. Seriously, insubstantial creatures that weaken (save ends) as an at-will? Utterly sadistic.

    I like Roles

I agree that 4e puts PCs into four roles, but I think you have them wrong here. The four roles, as I see them, are: 1) Kill Them. 2) Protect Us. 3) Make Us Better. 4) Make Them Worse. Everyone who takes part in a combat will do one or more of those four things. PC classes are written to focus...

    Playtest: The Druid (merged)

For at-wills, I like Chill Wind, Flame Seed, Pounce and Savage Rend. A mix of both modes, useful things to do (sliding!) in each, hitting two defenses, not too situational. I'm not really happy with any of the level 1 encounters, though. Nothing I like quite as much as Icy Terrain. Flash Freeze...

    Reading 4e

I'm thinking you just don't like to read and interpret long lists of powers, one after another. And there's nothing wrong with that, I wouldn't pick the Spell Compendium or Martial Power for bedtime reading either. These new splatbooks are tightly focused, which has pros and cons. I would guess...

    Playtest: The Druid (merged)

I was running in to post this. It's really a beautiful idea, and makes me really excited to play a balanced druid who can do both. I want higher levels, right effing now! Druids have always been my favorite class, and I don't foresee this changing. Also: Savage Rend is excellent. Your OAs push...

    Borderlands Marshal

I'm pretty sure it requires the Ranger MC feat, meaning you have to start Warlord. That makes sense with the encounter and daily powers, too. I might be wrong, though.

Not much interest in the Draconomicon?

No, he means that Ashardalon is in the back of the book. Now, Draconic Hall of Fame would be an awesome Dragon Feature, I agree.

    Lycanthropy

Not to toot my own horn, but here's a thread on homebrew PC lycanthrope races. Another poster and I have made werewolf, wererat, werebear, and wereserpent races.

    Borderlands Marshal

It says like the class feature, so I assume for the whole encounter. I like the PP a lot. It feels like a real integration of the two classes. All three people playing Warlord/Rangers will like it too, I bet.

Unarmed Rogue AV & MP (Look its a monk!)

Maybe by RAW, but I can't think of a DM that'd be enough of a jerk to disallow it. Nice find, OP!

By the way, are you allowed to say which parts you worked on? I'm curious.

Discussing 4e Subsystems: The PC/NPC Divide

Well, what do you want it to do? It ought to be similar to something in the PHB or MM, there're a lot of powers there! If you want ability damage or something, it might just not be a suitable effect for 4e, of course. I could see your issue then. Actually, I forgot one other awesome thing NPC...

The Druid makes me chew the furniture

Who shapeshifts in fantasy archetypes besides a druid? (And werewolves and things, but talking classes here) What other unique things do druids do? Races and Classes made the rather excellent point that shapeshifting is what makes the druid different from every other nature-based divine caster...

Discussing 4e Subsystems: The PC/NPC Divide

I'm confused by this. Does your character see the world in terms of game mechanics? What about PCs and NPCs working differently impairs your ability to explore a world? The only thing I got out of your post was "I can't fight monsters with other monsters anymore", which strikes me as kind of a...

Not much interest in the Draconomicon?

Something weird I noticed: that cover has the banner in purple, while mine has it in orange. Did I get a misprint or something?

Not much interest in the Draconomicon?

Hey, finally got my copy. First impression: Argh! Need more art! What happened to the MM's philosophy of giving a picture for every monster?! We're lucky if we get one for every other one here! If it weren't for the Chapter 4 splash page, I'd have no idea what gray dragons look like! I would...

Discussing 4e Subsystems: The PC/NPC Divide

Nice dissection of the system, per usual. I think you left out one thing, though: how utterly easy the new system makes homebrewing your own monsters. Pick appropriate powers/status effects for the level, and that's practically it. I made my own monster for an epic campaign (the Hand of...
