    What is Meta-gaming anyways?

Re: Re: Re: Re: What is Meta-gaming anyways? I may have been misunderstood - I define metagaming as basing the character's decision on information the character couldn't have. Tactical time-outs, planning etc. are fine for characters that would act in such a manner, and imc I tell players when...

    What is Meta-gaming anyways?

Re: Re: What is Meta-gaming anyways? This could only apply if you play "DM against players". Nothing wrong with it, but it is not my cup of tea. I will neither play in such a game, nor DM it - I have better uses for my time and creativity than to spend it in an arms&tactics race against my...

Recognizing an enemy (goblin, ogre, etc.) on sight

I think we should not forget that the information available to adventurers may not be exact. Descriptions, most of them embellished, are all they have for most critters they did not see themselves. I doubt they would be able to discern between similar monsters. Remember the medieval lexicons...

    What is THAT?

I stole this idea from a novel once: The party met an albino silver dragon. The PCs had some difficulties dealing with the concept of a non-evil white dragon. Never fought each other though, just negotiated some.

    Polearm feats

The Legends & Lairs Sourcebook "Path of the Sword" has some options for polearm wielders, notably a fighting school that offers combat options for spear users. A couple of those should easily be adaptable to feats.

Do you allow reactive touch attacks?

I think I would allow such a feat, but I'd have to test it in-game. The grappling option should pose not much of a problem (I might even allow it without a feat as a readied action depending on the situation, if it fits the mood of the game), but the defensive one could be trouble.

    Game Snacks

I myself prefer - Chocolate/Nut Cake - Vanille/Chocolate Cake - Choco Muffins Others in my group eat - Chips - Cookies - Chocolate I don't consider Pizza etc. as gaming food, since we generally don't play while eating pizza, but play while eating snacks.

Looking for other options for XP systems

IMCs, we just level up from time to time, according to DM/player wishes.

Dodge and Mobility, while Fighting Defensively (or with a Total Defense)

Dodge bonuses stack, so we play it like that. Our duelist with tumble 14+ (giving a +4 dodge bonus to fighting defensively according to the rules in OA), Dodge, mobility and elaborate parry is something to behold. Remeber, if you have enough tumble to beat 15 anyway AoOs from movement largely...

    Favorite Campaign setting

The problem with Earthdawn was that all that detail was crammed into one country - about half the current Ucraine, iirc. Jungle, Desert, Mountains etc. all within a few weeks of travel on foot. Outside Barsaive there was a big nothing. The Thera Sourcebook added some locations, but not with details.

    Held and reflex saves

As I said, we don't use a battlemap, hexes or anything like that. If the barbarian can cleave, then I assume the enemies were standing in a way to make it possible, even if only for that moment. Maybe the one behind was passing through the space occupied by the first target just when that one...

    What is your favorite monster?

Humans. Versatile, useful for combat encounters as well as intrigue, plain fun to rolplay as a DM, and you can fill almsot any role, from cannon fodder to mastermind with it.

Mystic Theurge too good or not?

I don't want the wizard/cleric multiclass from 2E to be a valid option in 3E or 3.5E. Together with 2E psionics and the complete books of elves it represents about the worst of AD&D I can remember.

    Held and reflex saves

I am fond of describing the cleave of our longspear-wielding barbarian as "You skever two enemies on your spear". Since we don't use miniatures or a battlemap it is easy to imagine. I also use the "Swining around you use the monumentum to pierce another" image if he is being flanked. Words...

[YA BoEF thread] Usefulness of BoEF in your campaign?

I guess that the book will be about as useful for my campaign as the majority any other Sourcebook I bought - I may be able to use a bit of it in my campaign. It is surprising how little of all the material, especially the crunch other gamers seem to desire, I use from the sourcebooks I own...

Which of these two methods would you choose for implementing armor DR rules... ?

We kept the AC bonus, but added DR 1 to medium armor, DR 2 to heavy armor, with an additional +1 DR for masterwork medium or heavy armor.

1st Level Sorcerer Feat - feedback please.

I would not call my players, most with 10 years AD&D and D&D under their belts, amateurs. There are a couple of reasons for this state of affairs. First, IMC social situations are very important and form the larger part of any game session (If they don't my players will complain). A low...

[OT] Monte Cook Finishes Lego Star Destoyer

Switzerland, actually (close enough... but it is like calling a Canadian an American....) As far as Perry Rhodan is concerned, I stopped reading it somewhere after 1500 I think... I have a backlog of close to 5 years now. For SF roleplaying games (or anything with guns) I use the Shadowrun 3...

    Held and reflex saves

All you have to do to defeat the high-level archer is to beat him on initiative and jump him with a dual-wielding high-level rogue to sneak-attack him into hamburger, right (surprise-round charge, first round skewer)?
