D&D General What are some of the populations of D&D kingdoms and cities?

I remember reading a thread about a Harn city described as a busy port that had a population of 800. There is usually a 10-1 ration of rural to urban, which would mean big cities like Waterdeep would be surrounded by villages numbering a million people, which I feel doesn't get addressed very...

    D&D 5E (2024) One D&d and alignment: new approach

I disagree with this. I think a lot of unpleasant characters get labeled Evil when they should be Neutral. I often see characters described as "they're evil, but they only hurt people that deserve it", which is not a definition for evil that I would use. To me, evil explicitly does evil acts to...

[+] The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power - SPOILERS ALLOWED

I thought it was fine. They leaned more into fantasy over realism, but this isn't too unexpected, as this is more an age of legends that the LotR setting.

D&D 5E (2024) What older setting do you want to see next?

Voted Birthright, but Gothic Earth from Masque of the Red Death would also have gotten my vote.

D&D General Denying Players Rolls for Attacks, Damage, Saves, Etc

I wouldn't do instakill or HP bypassing lethal attacks vs characters. HP represent the heroicness of the character, that touch of skill or destiny that sets them apart. A drop of the assassin's sweat awakens the character at the last moment, the character's clothing protects them from the flame...

    D&D 5E (2024) One D&d and alignment: new approach

It's a "5 minute scene" character. You added a lot of alignment definitions that had zero bearing on the question, and on the part that did answer- they were the same. In fact, I bet at least 2/3 of the alignments would all "feel empathy for the victims", so alignment choice didn't actually...

    D&D 5E (2024) One D&d and alignment: new approach

What's the difference between how a NG and CG character views a string of murders based solely on alignment?

But, using the term "bartender" would also give a clue to the NPC's disposition and how it would behave in a roleplaying or combat situation. No need to determine how he views Cosmic Order of Everything.

    D&D 5E (2024) One D&d and alignment: new approach

I would rather flesh out the religions or orders the characters belong to, rather than just paint everything with a generic brush. And if you do too, then why do you need the generic brush?

    D&D 5E (2024) One D&d and alignment: new approach

Which just proves how alignment can be interpreted differently in every edition of the game, making it an exceedingly poor descriptor.

    D&D 5E (2024) One D&d and alignment: new approach

Well, the LG paladin (according to Gygax) HAD to commit "war crimes" or he would lose his paladinhood for performing a NG act, until he atoned.

Pathfinder 1E Venting my rage at all the people working on 3rd/PF who continued to make monsters that are immune to mind-affecting effects.

Is it usual for invisible creatures to use a gaze attack? Wouldn't the party just not see them, and be unaffected?

D&D 5E (2014) How Are Orcs Different In Your World? (+)

My orcs are based off the Aztecs. They came from across the sea and had conquered a good part of the land, but were driven off a few hundred years ago. They are roughly based on the kosan from Nyambe d20.
