    Why aren't potions labeled?

Random junk treasure potions I give out are sometimes labelled if the person has more than 3 types of potions. If they have 3 or fewer types of potions on them, I usually don't have them labeled. In a few instances I have had meticulous potion collections sealed with special stoppers with...

Can you voluntary lower the Save DCs as you cast a spell?

It's not covered in the rules (to my knowledge). But I would allow it on a successful Spellcrafting Check, DC 15 + Spell Level. That likely wasn't what you were looking for though, sorry.

    OotS #364 Is Up

While I don't view every strip as fall down laughing funny. The strip has hilarious moments. My friends and I are still laughing about the Girdle of Masculinity/Femininity showing up in the first few strips, then making a comeback 300 strips later. The author does a great job of mentioning an...

    Critique a Fighter 20 Build

Consider Sense Weakness from Draconomicon...requires Weapon Focus and Combat Expertise. With Sense Weakness you get to ignore 5 points of DR when using a weapon that you have Weapon Focus with. Since there are sooo many DRs now, it's nice.

What would have to be done to 3.5 D&D if you removed skills and feats?

If I wanted to play D&D without Skills and Feats, I'd play 1e, and maybe incorporate a few things I like about 3e in my houserules (initiative perhaps?).

Phil Pfister: Highest Strength Score in the World

You know...this one may sound strange to some people. But I'm thinking Muhammad Ali. The man had serious, serious Charisma. Sure, he's lost most of it due to Parkinson's disease. But during his prime, he was quite possibly the most famous man in the world. And he defeated more than one opponent...

Phil Pfister: Highest Strength Score in the World

Well, the question was alive, so you have to exclude Ghandi...as to Elvis, according to DEATH, "I don't care what the machine says, I never laid a finger on him."

Can anyone explain the logic behind the silent treatment?

Eight times over the course of a day is about twice as many times as I would have called...but far from creepy. In the cell phone era, that's just become more and more common a way for people to communicate.

Phil Pfister: Highest Strength Score in the World

Wrong...but funny. :) Someone mentioned other living, real-world examples to represent the other stats for Human Maximums...I found that interesting. So, Str 20 - Phil Pfister Con 20 - Lance Armstrong? Or maybe he just has a feat, there are likely triathletes who'd go in this category that...

Can anyone explain the logic behind the silent treatment?

I'll keep this brief, my wrist hurts. Technology isn't part of the solution (someone mentioned the ease of contacting someone in the cell phone era), it's part of the problem. When I was a kid...no answering machines, no caller ID, no cell phones...you just answered your phone, period...

Do You Kill off your PC's.

If it's my fault...I badly balanced the encounter, oops'd on a rule, inadvertently fed them bad information...etc. Then no, I won't usually kill them. Or, I'll pull that player aside and give them the option...death for their character, or what's behind door number 3, which usually means a new...

    Grease spell = grease fire?

3.x has a robust enough skill system, that I've been able to stomach some of the things that made me toss 2e. However, even then we played a hybrid game. THAC0 was a good idea, there were some other good concepts as well. We used the dual wielding rules from 2e more than 1e, but mostly stuck...

    Grease spell = grease fire?

The original Unearthed Arcana didn't specify if Grease was flammable or not. Was it stated somewhere else in 1e? As to 2e, I couldn't say. I never played much 2e and didn't save my books. Once my group read that Magic Missile was limited to 5 missiles, we tossed it out as junk. :) As to...

    Grease spell = grease fire?

It first appeared in Unearthed Arcana (the original), and I don't believe it was specified as being flammable there. However, it may have been considered flammable in the 2e PHB.

    Grease spell = grease fire?

I agree in 3.x that Grease is not meant to be flammable. But, remember back in 1e, we were dealing with rounds that lasted a minute. That...and the stipulation (in our group while playing 1e) that once you cast Grease you had to spend a round setting it on fire...is why we considered it...

    Grease spell = grease fire?

One spell doesn't really make a point one way or the other. I'm confident we could back and forth tons of examples. I want to cast continual light on his eyes, make him blind. I want to cast web, then grease, set those both on fire and burn them alive. ...and we could go on. That's not my...
