    House Ruling 4E? How common

I'm a houseruler by nature, and I tend to make rules for more stuff than I'll ever have time to play (then again, that's what the blog is for). Most of the time, they are for small details - patching a few feats or powers, adding a new feat here and there. I really enjoy the core game, but I...

    tempest 3rd at-will?

I'd take either Reaping Strike or Brash Strike. They are certainly not great in your build, but still have some uses (i.e. they hit harder than other at-wills) when you're against a single target, and don't necessarily want to move with Footwork Lure.

Once a Month Sessions - HOW?

Some have already mentioned it, but it's worth repeating: Dungeon Delve is a great product for that kind of games. You open the book, choose a level-appropiate adventure, and get just enough material for a 4-5 hour session. It will be pure hack and slash, unless you add some stuff of your own...

    Guide to Divine Power domains

After my first read of Divine Power (in digital format, i.e. Compendium and Builder - no copy of the physical book yet), I have concluded the following about domain feats, and particularly those that modify at-wills: 1- I love them 2- They are a pain to use! I guess that, if you are building a...

    Broken things errata'ed, July 2009

As one of the advocates of hammers as valid BRV weapons, I'd like to point out that hammer+scale (or, more often than not, hammer+plate) is far from worthless. If nothing else, Brash Strike should be a very compelling argument to use hammers/axes vs swords, once you are commited to Con. I'm not...

    Broken things errata'ed, July 2009

Well, you will have a ton of Con, and barely any Dex. At paragon tier, that means you can get Hammer Rhythm but probably won't qualify for Heavy Blade feats. That's a pretty good incentive. At epic, a longsword might force you to sacrifice the weapon mastery feats, which will hardly be optimal.

    Ranger Balance

I think that archer rangers' gameplay would be far more interesting if their damage depended more on Prime Shot. As it is now, it's usually better to safely shoot from a million squares away than getting closer for a +1 to hit -Damage output and accuracy being already great without any effort...

    Minor Change: Magic Missile

Doesn't a Reaping MM become too similar to Cloud of Daggers? CoD's area has other uses, but most of the time it's just used as a reaping attack. I'd rather have it push 1 square (like the property from Master's Wand of MM, and stacking with it).

Battlerager Vigor limiting it - ideas?

I'm not even close to an Epic campaign yet, but it seems that optimized Battleragers at those levels are as good, if not better, as their heroic counterparts. They just get damage resistance, either from masterwork plate (up to resist 5 all) or the Adamantine Soldier Epic Destiny (resist=Con, at...

Tooltips for your D&D Compendium links

I've just enlarged the tooltip boxes so that you should be able to view most stuff (other than races and classes) without scroll bars. There's still no easy way to scroll when you need to, though. By the way, is anybody able to see this working on Explorer? For me, the script works offline, but...

House Rules: If I show you mine, will you show me yours?

This is what I use: Rule fixes New stuff (powers, feats, etc.)

    D&D 4E Is there a compiled Broken 4e Bits?

My fix for RRoT may still be too powerful, but I think it's way safer than the original, and quite fun. -Change range to "Close burst 5", and add the line: "Target: An enemy that has critically hit you or one ally since your last turn".

Tooltips for your D&D Compendium links

I've been working on a script to show powers (or items, feats, etc.) as tooltips when you have a link to D&D Compendium on your site. It's still a bit rough, though, so I wouldn't mind some feedback about bugs, ways to improve it, and the like. You can find a demo here. Note that you'll need to...

    How to foil single-target focus?

Yet another option would be making monsters that gain an attack bonus (or other powerful effect, like imposing conditions on PCs) each turn they are not attacked. Just don't use stunning or immobilizing effects as punishment, or your players will enter a vicious circle. And, of course, my...

Tiefling, Dragonborn : have they gained traction ?

Dragonborn are, by far, the most played race in my group. I think they're definitely here to stay. As for tieflings, we have only had one so far. I like their new appearance and unified origin, but we just don't have the kind of players that should go crazy for them (i.e. drow players). That...

    PH3 Playtest Race: Wilden

I also think that there should have been a few racial feats for the article to be an actual playtest. In case you're interested, I have made a few Wilden feats, which you can find on my blog. Other than that, I liked the article. I'm not usually too keen on weird races, but I might end up...

    D&D 4E Confirming the 4e Math, Stage 1: Iconics

One small suggestion to help us Character Builder addicts. Would it be possible to link to the actual Character Builder files of the PCs? Processing raw stats, particularly at such a high level, is not too intuitive, and it would be cool to either browse the sheets on CB, or print them. Other...

    Surprise Round Alternatives?

I had thought of the same idea, but I haven't been able to test it yet- we don't usually have many surprise rounds in my group. I think this mechanic should work better than the current one, except for one thing: what happens when a surprised character wins the initiative roll? The way I see...

    Upgrading Witchfire?

Making it an area attack seems excessive to me - the attack penalty should be about -6/-7 at those levels, which is almost as good as a stun. The base power is already quite good, so I'd raise the damage to 2d10+Cha (or maybe just 2d8+Cha) and call it a day.

Multiple attacks on a single target

You probably want to add 'in a single round' somewhere. This messes with Riposte Strike and the like, and gets weird with sustainable powers like flaming sphere.
