Once per day non-magical effects destroy suspension of disbelief

So in other words only wizards, clerics, warlocks, and paladins can do cool stuff without committing seppuku?

Why is Firestorm the best 19th level control spell?

The Cleric only needs 4 encounters and 4 dailies to be equal to the number of control spells a wizard can put out. It doesn't matter that the wizard has more options as long as the cleric has enough options.

Careful Attack/Sure Strike: A mathematical analysis

Eldritch Blast and Magic Missile both replace the ranged basic attack for their respective classes.

Careful Attack/Sure Strike: A mathematical analysis

How so? There are already two at-will attacks that substitute for basic attacks. I'm absolutely certain we'll see some melee basic attack at-wills eventually.

Careful Attack/Sure Strike: A mathematical analysis

I don't see how making Sure Strike/Careful Attack eligible for basic attacks would make any of that more powerful. SS/CA do less damage than a basic attack and only have a slight hit chance advantage.

Giving twin strike to a fighter

No, he can't. Shields are too heavy to be used as one-handed improvised weapons.

    Vorpal Crits

Sorry, Hyp. I didn't see your post on this earlier - like I said, I havn't been paying that much attention to this thread (except when DLichen specifically asked for my input). I was mostly skimming and must have just skimmed right past your post. I see what you're saying - critical hits don't...

    Vorpal Crits

I, obviously, disagree :) I agree that there's room for interpretation counter to mine and I can't really state with absolute conviction that this other interpretation is wrong - I just believe it to be so. I believe my interpretation is the correct one, especially because it seems to fall in...

    Vorpal Crits

I can definitely get behind this, regardless of the actual intent of vorpal and criticals. It's really hard to interpret intent of the rules when the rules don't even always agree with each other as written.

    Vorpal Crits

And how do you do that if you're ignoring dice? You have to look at the number and size of the dice used by the attack in order to determine the maximum damage the attack could do.

    Cure Light Wounds: Nearly Useless?

This is a flat out lie. I won't bother responding to the rest of your post because you obviously have a grudge against me.

    Vorpal Crits

Actually, critical hits say nothing about dice. Nothing at all. They say not to roll damage, which is more general and more severe.

    Vorpal Crits

Ah, I see. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Vorpal the only thing in the game that even refers to rolling dice past the "how to play the game" chapter? I'll give you that "rolling damage" and "rolling dice" are not necessarily the same thing. However, I'm more inclined to think that the only...

    Vorpal Crits

I'd be happy to, but I'm not sure which claim you're referring to. I've not paid overmuch attention to this thread, since I've already done this argument once before and no one was convinced either way.

    Vorpal Crits

The only people who are saying it would lead to infinite damage are misrepresenting the position of the people supporting rerolls on the base weapon damage for crits. No one "for" rerolls on crits has even suggested that the damage would be infinite. It's a strawman put up by the detractors.

So, has anyone played a wizard in full plate yet?

Well, it's never going to occur since ranged basic attacks can't be used for OAs :p But even if they could, it'd still be pretty rare. Warlocks don't tend to get into melee much.

    Cure Light Wounds: Nearly Useless?

It's very misleading, misleading enough to be a falsehood. Your implication was that there aren't enough monsters that make non-AC attacks to make a difference. The truth is that most monsters do have non-AC attacks, and that for the most part only minions and low-level monsters only have vs AC...

    Cure Light Wounds: Nearly Useless?

Incorrect - or, at least, misleading. All monsters have at least one (and most have two) basic attacks that target AC. A very large percentage of monsters don't use their basic attacks very frequently, however. In fact, only 40% of monsters only have attacks that target AC - and even at the...

    Rapier is Superior?

Read the description for Pact Blades. They're "usually" daggers or sickles, but they can be any Light Blade class weapon (including shuriken).

    Switching weapons

There is quite literally no mechanical benefit for switching hands. None at all. That makes it a flavor ability - one that has no point other than to provide flavor for the character. Flavor abilities shouldn't cost resources. Thus, it should be a free action.
