    Draw Steel News

I think the sci-fi-isms are causing me issues. Daggerheart used a lot of DnD terminology to quickly on board me. Sure, there's occasional bumps and twists, like, oh, Daggerheart Wizards can heal? Sorcerers share domains with Druids and Rogues?, but in general, I know what a Wizard is and a Druid...

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I just view rolling for stats as an old vestigial part of RPGs, I don't allow it in DnD anymore (except for maybe a one-shot) and avoid it everywhere else.

New Daggerheart Kickstarter Announced, Chris Perkins, Jeremy Crawford's Plans Revealed

It's hard to get a sense of scale here in the niche world of RPGs, and I certainly don't claim any particular insight into it, but I do feel like this is Darrington going through a fairly major scaling up process. That said, they're early on. Just because they signed two ex-WotC designers...

I'm not against spending a Fear to "Compel" a PC experience. Oh that mayor's son was assassinated by the Sapphire Syndicate so best not let your affiliation get out. Tbh, I've been thinking of ways to spend Fear outside of combat and making pseudo compels seems like a good idea.

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

La'an told Kirk about her feelings in the musical episode, but he said that things between him and Carol were getting serious.

Well, TBF ... I did just run a single Solo against 5 PCs and while they weren't fully rested, this battle was not a cakewalk and if I'd had the Flickerfly focus fire on a PC, I could have downed one. The Wizard and Warrior both got rocked in the battle. Overall, I've found combat math accurate...

As a GM, which monster do you find the most difficult to role-play?

All of them once we're in combat. I find I can focus too much on the mechanics of the creatures and less on their personality when I'm trying to manage a battle.

Daggerheart sold out third printing this morning, from GenCon

I'm happy for their success, though I imagine it's frustrating for those that haven't gotten their copies yet

    Daggerheart live with Todd Kenreck

Well, tbf, they also say these are guidelines that even they don't always follow. My guess is that they wanted a squishier Bard, and give the classes most likely to be off on their own a bit more resilience. Maybe when they do a Skald subclass it'll gain extra HP like the School of War Wizard...

    Does Anyone Care? (Cosmere RPG)

My current group has a superfan (he went to the Sanderson convention a few months back), and a casual reader, and the rest of us (including myself) haven't read any of his books. So there's some interest in maybe playing the system, but Daggerheart is suiting us well and there's both DnD 5e24...

    Daggerheart live with Todd Kenreck

The homebrew kit says that both Wizard and Bard get reduced hitpoints due to access to the Codex domain, which is why they both start with 5 (Also Valor domain generally gets an extra hitpoint). Note that this is only referring to Core classes, while a few Void classes also have 5 starting HP...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

Ivanova: Oh, this is demeaning! I mean, we're not some - some deep space franchise, this station is about something! What fun. Lampshade it to heck, add a lot of meta references and still include some solid character work (I really liked that last conversation between Una and Scotty), and I'll...

New Daggerheart Kickstarter Announced, Chris Perkins, Jeremy Crawford's Plans Revealed

Depends on how they're implemented. Something like a Pathfinder adventure path or a lot of DnD modules would be ... too prescriptive and yes, not quite right for Daggerheart. But I could see some pre-made encounters, villain countdown clocks and a light structure to better help a DM get going...

New Daggerheart Kickstarter Announced, Chris Perkins, Jeremy Crawford's Plans Revealed

Character packs are cool, but I don't know if I'll bother backing the kickstarter. I'll be interested in seeing the price point though. Because I do like these as a way for players to buy in without having to shell out for the full system. More campaign frames and settings are really cool, I'm...

Daggerheart Hombrew kit released at GenCon.

I expected the Homebrew kit to be part of a book ... didn't expect it to just appear on the site. I like it a lot, and it's full of good info

Describe your last rpg session in 5 words

Daggerheart Session 2: Forest Maintenance generates great Fear. (Both literally because the Party rolled with Fear a lot, but also because I tried out a juvenile Flickerfly against the party and a few PCs had to explain the various fears they witnessed)

GenCon 2025 TTRPG announcement speculation thread!

Are we likely to get WotC announcements on upcoming products, or do they tend to do it later in the year? I'm most interested in Daggerheart material, I just want more stuff. PC content (The stuff in the Void is looking good), but also DM content. Environments, Adversaries, Campaign Frames. But...

    Daggerheart Playtesting New Transformation Mechanic

The transformation is interesting in that each offers a boon and a penalty. The Demigod, for example, rolls a d10 instead of a d6 as an advantage die, but gives the GM additional fear. I like this, conceptually. Simpler than the idea I had been noodling around for similar character themes.

New Void updates. Changes have been made to everything currently in the Void, but now they've added transformation options for werewolf or vampire PCs.

    Old shows that you enjoy?

I remember liking Dark Skies, or at least crushing on Eric Close. There were a lot of X-Files clones those days, most were trash, but I dug the period piece nature of that one. Roar ... well I already mentioned Robin of Sherwood in this thread ... and I loved Xena ... so yeah, Roar was...
