D&D 5E (2014) Perception checks, searching a room, listening at a door, etc etc

But i have a rash barbarian in my group now, so by the time someone wants to listen at the door, said door is kicked in.

D&D 5E (2014) Perception checks, searching a room, listening at a door, etc etc

Saelorn explained my point succinctly. Maybe in 5E you have a range of +/-4 on checks. It gets more stretchy late game when proficiencies get higher vs someone with wis dump stat, but still, nothing like a 3.5 spotter or PFRPG Perception trained char with a magic item... they could easily get...

    D&D 5E (2014) Skill Check Rolls

Also, dont forget that a low insight roll is a perfect opportunity for misinformation, or red herrings.

My mage prestidigitations them into magical ben-wa balls.

    D&D 5E (2014) Skill Check Rolls

This is more a matter of the metagame bleeding into the roleplaying. You can try to easily solve this by rewarding inspiration when players roll low on such checks, and roleplay accordingly. Conversely, Ive seen all too often where other players jump in, knowing the roll was low, and try to...

D&D 5E (2014) Perception checks, searching a room, listening at a door, etc etc

5E kinda makes the "scout" go away... in previous editions there was always someone super good at perception, and if they couldnt see it or hear it, it didnt exist. 5e narrows that field wya down and its more roll luck than skill points. What I like to do is have everyone, pre game, roll me 20...

    D&D 5E (2014) Amazon's current ranking of the DMG.

Amazons rankings for book sales are based primarily on sales, with a bit on conversion. Conversion is search to sale ratio. Large quanitity orders are not rated as high as low quanityt orders. So you couldnt buy 1000 units and boost sales by a huge margin. But it is reported that NYTimes...

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Hit with superiority die ?

I believe only natural rolls qualify for criticals. So no, dice modified after the fact are not natural criticals.

Mearls announces end of Legends & Lore & New D&D Columns in 2015!

D&D isn't a consumable product, its an investment. In order for that investment to pay off for the consumer, content has to be produced in both standard revenue streams (books) and marketing (web). But yes, why cant D&D site be like MTG site? MTG is always changing, has a tremendous fanbase...

Mearls announces end of Legends & Lore & New D&D Columns in 2015!

Generate brand interest, attract new players, and retain old customers. I'd be interested to know the metrics from the 3E days where there was decent and good content every day(remember those cartography articles, the side treks, villains, etc), and in 4E with subscription based content.

Mearls announces end of Legends & Lore & New D&D Columns in 2015!

Wouldnt have to pay them for simply linking articles. But WOTC would never drive traffic from their own site, so hire columnists...the cost is so minimal for pageviews.

    D&D 5E (2014) Feats *and* aibility increases

Agree with all the sentiments above. Its your game, do what your players like... but what players want and what they get are usually two different things. It wont break anything outright, but while it might be fun to be powerful, its going to get boring quickly. I would say to not allow this...

    Forgotten Realms Faction Benefits

Thanks as well, didnt know that content was in there. This is what I was looking for for my players for HotDQ as well. Does anyone know if the rewards for factions are expanded upon in Rise of Tiamat?

Mearls announces end of Legends & Lore & New D&D Columns in 2015!

They want to keep the excitement alive but only announce 3 columns... two of which are re-hashes? Well I hope they learn, and pull the best columnists and bloggers from the interwebs to fill content space. Would love to see Slyflourish, DungeonBastard, etc on the D&D site.

10 More Fan Resources for your D&D 5E Game!

Quatermane People always contributed and created. D&D at its core is about creation. Back then people shared notebooks, graph paper and well-worn modules instead of links, document files, and PDFs.

D&D 5E (2014) Increasing the power of spells?

If it works for the players, it should be the same for monsters/NPCs... which could lead to TPK's really easy.
