D&D 5E (2014) A Hint of Elegance in the Latest Playtest

I don't know Warbringer. I got a lot of resistance not offering feats. And people grumble if there isn't at least a +3 spread. Ability Modifiers are too large when we pair them up with the other modifiers. It is like we are saying that natural ability is king. Wack those ability modifiers down...

D&D 5E (2014) A Hint of Elegance in the Latest Playtest

I like the average or roll idea. As far as reducing the bonus to+5, I would say that is ok as long as each bonus source maxes at +5. Magic, feats, ability, level, situation.

D&D 5E (2014) Dex mod tp damage when using ranged weapons: Please do away with.

Give a dex bonus to crossbow bolt, and blow dart to hit and damage. Give a str bonus to bow, sling, and thrown weapons to hit and damage. to hit and damage should have the same bonuses otherwise. 1d20+abi mod+lvl mod+feat+magic+sit mod

D&D 5E (2014) Should D&D Next be having the obvious problems that it's having at this point in the playtest?

With the first play-test, I noticed very sloppy math errors and a lot of cut and pasted materials from previous editions. I complained and almost got myself banned. But then I noticed that at least on developer was listening here so it gave me an incentive to keep posting.

    D&D 5E (2014) I Think Bounded Accuracy Means..

The Weapon Feat itself is a tax, isn't it? If you choose to spend your ability+1's on a stat that increases your hit, that would also be a tax. A Level bonus or weapon attack bonus is something you would automatically get. A magic bonus would only apply if the DM let you find a weapon with that...

    D&D 5E (2014) I Think Bounded Accuracy Means..

So a Storm Giant gets a Greatsword attack 1d20+11. The strength is 29(+9), so he gets a +2 coming from somewhere. He is level 13, but that doesn't matter because other monsters that are level 2 get about a +2 bonus. I have noticed that no bonus in the Bestiary is over +11. Stone Giants are...

    D&D 5E (2014) Take 10 or Roll d20

XD and Advantage/Disadvantage are nice ideas but time consuming. I like the fact that we can roll monster damage or just deduct a median damage number without a roll. What if we did that for XD? You can roll XD or just use a median XD number? You can use your static 10 ability defense or roll...

    D&D 5E (2014) Crazy dice ideas

Ah, but a dinner fork wielded by a dedicated fighting class would be more lethal than a large sword wielded by a magic learning geek. And yes, I think weapons should have strength limitations.

    D&D 5E (2014) Crazy dice ideas

Cyberen, I'm also partial to your idea. It doesn't matter what the weapon is, the weapon does damage according to the class and add some ability mod damage as well as damage from level/feats/magic. Dedicated fighting classes do the highest weapon damage. Mixed fighting and casting classes do...

    D&D 5E (2014) My Current DND5 Ideas

We could do both. If a player wants to roll, then let her. Make it a little more worth just using a flat bonus. But if she doesn't feel like rolling, let her take the flat bonus.

    D&D 5E (2014) Playing with Bounded Stats

Here are my latest minimums and maximums as a result of your comments. I know that you don't like caps but I'm testing them on existing NPCs from our Pathfinder game and the encounter seems to be more challenging. This time the goal is not to achieve a true hit on a natural 20 in 20 or a true...

D&D 5E (2014) Remove stat bonus from damage

How about this? Your ability score will only add +1 to +3 to your attack roll. Feats spells magic could total to 3 Ability 1 to 3 Sit combat mods 1 to 3 Max +9 total to attack bonus

    D&D 5E (2014) Playing with Bounded Stats

Good point, Jester. If magic maxed out at +3, it would be less of a problem. What about this? Ability scores will be from 3 to 20. You get a +1 with an ability score of 3. You get a +9 with an ability score of 20. All bonuses to a 1d20 roll will be from +1 to +9 AC will be from 11 to 20...

    D&D 5E (2014) Playing with Bounded Stats

Yours too! I get a lot of ideas from you because I know you're actually playing the game. As it stands, everybody hits on a natural 20 and fails on a natural 1. If you don't like the natural 3, then how about everybody hits on a natural 19 or 20? The idea here is to conform all the math in the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Playing with Bounded Stats

If we say that a being with a toHit of 1d20+0 can hit a being with an AC of 18 on a natural 18, 19 or 20, then the lowest level being would still be a threat to the highest level being in the game. If the highest level being missed the lowest level being with a toHit of 1d20+8, then he would...

    D&D 5E (2014) Expertise "Fix" (a.k.a. Increasing Variation)

DogBackward, some good ideas there. I would add an expertise dice progression table. The fighter does the most damage or blocks the most damage. He should get the higher rolls. But the rogue is fast and can do many actions. He should have lower dice but more of them. Fighter-Type Classes 1st...
