Kitchen Sink or Limits, Which for You?

I normally prefer big, broad settings where there's a place for everything under the rules-- but that still maintain their own flavor. Eberron and Golarion do this for me, Planescape did this for me, and my favorite campaign setting is Spelljammer. I respect that some people get a jones for a...

    Pathfinder 1E Got Pathfinder Questions?

I disagree with StreamOfTheSky on this one. Wild Rager's ability isn't equivalent to the confusion spell-- or else it would say "as if affected by the confusion spell"-- it simply uses the table from the confusion spell to determine the effects. It's not defined as a spell, spell-like ability...

"Finding the Path" for 3 February 2012

My apologies-- I finished the column late last night. Combat Modifiers. Table in the right-hand column, "Armor Class Modifiers".

"Finding the Path" for 3 February 2012

Fair enough. But there's a name for the GM applying common sense limitations to situations that are not explicitly defined in the rules. I approve of it, use it extensively, and encourage GMs to consider it in almost every question I answer. It's called "House Rules".

"Finding the Path" for 3 February 2012

Hello and welcome to the 3 February 2012 installment of Finding the Path, E.N. World's monthly Pathfinder advice column. My name is Viktyr L. Korimir and each month I'll be choosing a handful of your questions about the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and answering them to the best of my ability--...

    Hard Stat Cap of 18?

See this? This is why I hate the caps. A 20th level character is not in any way, shape, or form a normal human being-- he can swim in plate mail armor and leap a castle moat using just his skill ranks (with a Strength of 8), he can survive falling from a low Earth orbit and walk away, and he can...

    Pathfinder 1E Got Pathfinder Questions?

That depends heavily on the kinds of questions. I'm willing to field any question about the Pathfinder RPG that I'm capable of answering, but most questions about adventures or APs are going to fly right over my head; I don't normally use pre-packaged modules and I can't really afford the...

    No Elf and Dwarf classes

Well, I am disappointed, but I suppose I expected this.

    Hard Stat Cap of 18?

That would be strike two. That seems strangely arbitrary. And I don't like 18 as "peak human potential" anyway.

    Hard Stat Cap of 18?

Hard caps are a very big turn off for me, bordering on dealbreaker. (Speaking of unexpected dealbreakers...) Games where you can't improve your natural abilities are frustrating and don't make sense; combine this with random ability scores and you get a game I have zero interest in playing. And...

D&D 5E (2014) Should classes retain traditional alignment restrictions in 5E?

I perceive morality in relation to goals. D&D defines Good as "concern for the life and dignity" of intelligent beings. Assuming that every sane being, regardless of alignment, shares these values, they would have the same two basic goals: A) improve their own quality of life and B) improve...

    "Invalid Security Token"?

I get this error every time I try to mark the forums read. It prevents me from being able to mark the forums read. How am I fix?

    Pathfinder 1E Got Pathfinder Questions?

I write Finding the Path here on EN World, which is scheduled to appear the first Friday of every month. So if you have any kinds of questions you need answered for this month's column-- anything you need help with or just want to know-- hit me with your best shot. I'll take one question this...

Pathfinder 1E New to Pathfinder - what to get?

Saying that the APG is mandatory is an understatement. It's the Pathfinder equivalent to Unearthed Arcana and-- aside from Unearthed Arcana itself-- it's hands down the best supplement for d20 D&D. Pick up the Bestiary. If you like psionics, Dreamscarred Press' Psionics Unleashed gives it the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Multi-class support in 5E

My theory? Third Edition and their "Back to the Dungeon" aesthetic was an attempt to go back to Gygax AD&D from the campaign setting and metaplot days of Williams AD&D... notice how all your Clerics had the same spell list again, Demons and Devils in the Monster Manual, Barbarians and Monks in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Multi-class support in 5E

For me, that was the final insult-- you get one, single, 1st level ability from the chosen class... and you don't even get to use it at will. Combine that with the fact that you have to pay more feats to swap your limited number of class powers, and if I'd actually bought a copy of the 4e PHB it...

D&D 5E (2014) Should classes retain traditional alignment restrictions in 5E?

Problem is, Rangers are half-casters and only really use WIS for their spellcasting. (And Survival checks, I know, but everyone uses WIS for Survival.)

D&D 5E (2014) Should classes retain traditional alignment restrictions in 5E?

Random, off-topic thought: If Fighters are the INT warriors, and Barbarians are the CHA warriors... who are the WIS warriors?

People have the strangest deal makers

If they gave me the kind of multiclassing I want, they'd have to really make a mess of everything else to turn me off. Then again, I never imagined that multiclassing would have been my dealbreaker before 4e came out. If 5e contains any dealbreakers (except that one) it's going to be something...

What Does Your Perfect Edition Look Like?

For me? Zero-to-hero with a divine ascension endgame. Less math scaling so threats stay relevant over a wider level range. Racial classes with unique class features and powers. Separate rules for PCs and monsters/NPCs. Flexible multiclassing and class customization. Looser "party role"...
