    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5E have Healing Surges?

Well, for my proposal, I'd want all of the leader classes to retain their full ability to heal the "temporary" damage without burning daily resources and for mundane healing to be buffed considerably. (I've got some ideas to that end.) Then magical healing-- which every non-Martial power source...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5E have Healing Surges?

No, it certainly isn't. It isn't even closely related. Healing surges are a limited resource that is depleted by all in-combat and out-of-combat healing. I'm talking about one damage track with unlimited out-of-combat healing, that represents endurance and heroism, and one damage track that uses...

What's your favorite edition of D&D (so far)?

As always, I'm torn between Pathfinder and Player's Option AD&D.

    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5E have Healing Surges?

I want characters to have two pools of hit points-- not necessarily equal, but not necessarily unequal-- that are depleted simultaneously in combat. Losing all of their hit points from either pool is potentially fatal, but one pool refreshes after every encounter and the other pool relies on...

    Level of Play

Highest level character was a dual-class Human Fighter 13/Wizard 26 in AD&D 2e and a Troll 9/Shaman 8/Witch-Doctor 6 using the Orcs of Thar rules; I played both characters in Die, Vecna, Die. In 3.X, I've played games from 1st to 20th level... but I never played in a game where my character...

    People have the strangest deal-breakers

I don't think it's possible for the new D&D to disappoint me, because I don't really have any expectations for it; I never got into 4e, and I was already growing quite disillusioned with 3.X when 4e was released. So when I talk about my personal "deal-breakers", I'm not a current customer...

Are you a voice actor? Or thought about being one?

Audition submitted, hopefully in time. That'll show me for not checking News more carefully.

    Should races have mechanical effects?

That's one of the reasons I like race-as-class. The bonuses don't stack with any particular class-- and they're paid for.

    Enslaving the Undead

If you're playing in a 3.P environment, you can take Practiced Spellcaster (Sorcerer) to get a lot more out of that one lost caster level and still have five levels leftover for a suitably necromantic PrC.

    Should races have mechanical effects?

My complaint for years has been that the choice of race doesn't have enough mechanical effects, that they all occur at 1st level, and that they're too quickly overshadowed by your class choices. 4e is actually better in this regard, and I would hate to see for the game to take a step backward.

    Bull Rush: a question

He doesn't need to. He can just choose to stop at the edge.

D&D 5E (2014) Which version of D&D would you like 5E to resemble most? (poll version)

I voted AD&D with unified d20 mechanics and Fourth Edition, but I don't think that's quite accurate. What I want is BECMI with AD&D multiclassing, unified mechanics, 3.X class features, and then strong elements of 4e-- the skill system, at-will powers for each class, and ritual magic.

Where to put Odd Spell-Casters: Bard, Witch, etc?

I'm actually working on something like that, with Shamans being Charisma-based spontaneous Primal casters with less of a "wilderness" focus and more of a "harmony" focus and spiritual powers. I let Bards choose their power source at 1st level. Actually a big deal in my house rules, since...

    Cleric = Druid = Wizard

Hey, that's what I do. Every spellcaster has a power source-- like in 4e-- and characters can learn spells from any class list within their power source at +1 spell level. Following the different flavors of magic as different colors theme, I'd like to see a Magic-based magic system using the...

Wizards of the Coast Announces D&D Forgotten Realms Character Creation Contest‏

I'm about ten different kinds of paranoid. That's why I know how things like this work-- I study them obsessively to make sure they aren't used against me. In this case, there isn't a court of law in the United States that would support a copyright suit over something like this... even winning a...

Which 3rd ed classes should have been core?

I can't make a case for Assassin and Ninja if there's already a Rogue class-- but a supernatural stealth killer seems like a perfectly viable archetype for a class.

Alignment in perspective of medieval moralism?

Twelve. And I meant that literally. Infanticide was a common practice in many cultures, and some cultures did indeed give the head of household the authority to put even older children to death.

Wizards of the Coast Announces D&D Forgotten Realms Character Creation Contest‏

Difference being, if you beat them to the punch, they're not stupid enough to sue you over it; their expensive lawyers would explain to them why a lawsuit would be a very bad idea. Since you don't have expensive lawyers, they can't afford to assume that you're not stupid enough to sue them. The...

    Bull Rush: a question

It's the DC to Climb the wall plus 20. Pulling yourself up over a ledge using just your hands is DC 15-- hence, 35. Getting Bull Rushed to the center of the pit wouldn't allow a Climb check at all.

Core Classes: What and how many

I think it ought to be broken down by power source: Martial: Barbarian, Fighter, Rogue, Warlord Arcane: Bard, Swordmage, Wizard, Sorcerer Divine: Cleric, Paladin, Avenger, Invoker Primal: Druid, Ranger, Shaman, Warden Sixteen. Four power sources with four classes in each.
