Castles are worthless against armies with mages?

Really, this applies to any high-level character. People focus a lot on magic, and what high-level Clerics and Wizards can do, but the feudal societies we want to emulate in our high-fantasy settings evolved in a world that not only had no functioning magic, but in which the limits of human...

    [OA] iaijutsu focus skill question

It isn't explicitly called precision damage and it is implied that the extra damage applies to objects, so I would say that it is not precision damage. There is nothing in the update booklet that changes the function of Iaijutsu Focus, so it functions the same in 3.5 as it did in 3.0.

Castles are worthless against armies with mages?

Taking their head bumps it to resurrection, which is Clr 7 and 10,000 GP. There has to be nothing left to bump it to true resurrection, so your best bet is to stuff the whole body into a portable hole and dispose of it properly at your leisure. On the other hand, while a living king might make...

Saying "yes" to players; also, turning cross-class skills into class skills

It sounds like he wants to play a character with more mystical skills than the playtest Ninja, which isn't unreasonable. Multiclass Monk/Ninja Playtest. He already gets to choose which ability score determines his ki pool; give him a custom feat that allows him to use his Charisma for his AC...

Castles are worthless against armies with mages?

Destroy the corpse. That raises the minimum Cleric level from 9 to 17 and multiplies the cost of resurrection by 5.

    Dragonfire Adept/Dragon Shaman Conversion

Crossposted at Paizo and GitP. I've been a little obsessed with the Dragonfire Adept lately. It's my new favorite class for 3.X, and I wanted to write it up for use in Pathfinder, if ever I'm lucky enough to find a DM who will allow 3.5 material and/or crazy homebrew stuff. One thing I try to...

    Dragonfire Adept

The Epic Insights article for Warlocks has very little that would apply for the Dragonfire Adept directly, but we can use it to extrapolate a little. Like the Warlock's eldritch blast, the Dragonfire Adept's breath weapon would improve by +1d6 every even-numbered level. There's no clear...

    What is errata?

    Corrections to the rules.

    Dragonfire Adept

I can't see making a whole class out of combining Dragonfire Adept and Dragon Shaman. Dragonfire Adept can already do almost everything Dragon Shaman can do for the cost of a feat, and aside from auras vs. invocations, they have practically identical, non-stacking class abilities. Would just...

    Apprentice Level Characters?

I'm working on a thing involving the 3.X multiclass rules, and I remember reading about the apprentice level multiclass variant for 1st level characters in the 3.0 DMG, but I don't have my 3.0 DMG any more. Can someone please refresh my memory as to how it works?

    Dragonfire Adept

Okay. Eldritch Theurge requires 2nd level arcane spells, eldritch blast 2d6, and 8 ranks each in Knowledge (arcana) and Knowledge (the planes). In addition to dual progression, it gives damage reduction, fiendish resilience, and some options for combining spells and eldritch blast in ways that...

Is there an epic progression for Fochlucan Lyrist?

That's why I would default to alternating between Bard and Druid once you reach Sublime Chord 10 spellcasting; you're sacrificing maybe five or six bonus feats to get all of your powerful Druid abilities and if the campaign continues long enough to reach Bard 20/Druid 20, you'll end up with far...

Age old question: Handling of prisoners

Okay, I didn't know that. In that case, they may not even be aware that dynamics other than "destroy evil" are available, and it might be worth your time to talk about that with them. On the other hand, I stand by my assertion that you are forcing their hand considerably by your choice of...

    Dragonfire Adept

Oh, and Warlocks get a number of new invocations in several books. I'm aware of the Infernal Adept feat, but what new Warlock invocations should be available to Dragonfire Adepts? I'm thinking devil's whispers from Cityscape, since Dragonfire Adepts get both beguiling influence and charm. I'm...

    Dragonfire Adept

I love this class. It's like a Warlock, except without all of the stuff I don't like about Warlock. But, unlike a Warlock, it didn't receive a single piece of additional support. So, I have questions. Like Warlocks, Dragonfire Adepts can take Prestige Classes that increase their breath weapon...

    Less flexible ability rolls.

Random ability scores aren't my cup of tea, but some groups enjoy them. I wouldn't force characters to roll for race under any circumstances; let them decide what race and class they want to play based on their ability scores. In general, I would say that the less of your character you get to...

Is there an epic progression for Fochlucan Lyrist?

Fochlucan Lyrist looks pretty simple. Fochlucan Lyrist levels stack with Bard levels for all Bardic Knowledge checks. Fochlucan Lyrist and Bard levels stack for all Bardic Music effects up to 20th level, and then follow Epic Bard progression thereafter. Fochlucan Lyrists gain +1 Bard caster...

Age old question: Handling of prisoners

At that point, showing the villain mercy is neither "noble" nor "practical", it's downright irresponsible. You're not weighing a human life against a 0th level spell, you're weighing her life against the possibility that something like this-- the scores of innocent lives-- could happen again. I...

    D&D 3.x 3.0 Master of Chains, modernized/rewritten to 3.5

Nothing wrong with the armor giving you an equipment bonus to Intimidate checks. Makes perfect sense. I'm just sick of people saying that Intimidate should be based on a different ability score because Charisma's the dump stat.

    D&D 3.x 3.0 Master of Chains, modernized/rewritten to 3.5

Charisma is what makes people scary. If someone with a low Charisma is complaining about not being scary enough, that's their own fault; it's like dumping Dexterity and then complaining you get hit too often.
