    Part-time PhD...Doable?

If you have contacts at those places, use them! If you are just sending blind emails, you are likely to get pretty generic replies, if you get replies at all. You can also check out The Chronicle of Higher Education. It's where all (and I do mean all) the jobs get posted, so that will give...

    Part-time PhD...Doable?

I just thought of another potential obsticle to the part time PhD plan -- time for dissertation research. As a history PhD, you are going to have to get into primary sources for your dissertation. That often takes considerable amount of time and travel. While combing the monestary for unfound...

    Part-time PhD...Doable?

There are no dumb questions. . . :) You need a PhD to be a faculty member at a university, especially if you care about job security and tenure. If you just want to teach at a community college or do some adjunct work at the local U, then an MA will work, but a PhD will be better.

    Part-time PhD...Doable?

Dude, I just got a real job after living as a grad student for 8 years. Give some time for the finances to catch up! :D The hard, cold truth: I am all for adults returning to college and for Old One following his dream. But here's the problem -- it's REALLY hard to find a job with a liberal...

Looking to form a group in Charlotte/Rock Hill

I'm looking to put together or join an already existing gaming group in the Charlotte, NC/Rock Hill, SC area. I'm willing, (well, prefer, actually) to run games. I'm fine with D&D, d20 Modern, and/or Grim Tales and am willing to learn others. To me, the most important thing is a group that...

Getting the Word out on the Ennies products

If there was some way you could keep a blog and not open things up for feedback, then it may be okay. Something like "I got product X yesterday. The cover is cool and there are some good ideas in there, but I'm not so sure about the mechanics" without worrying you'd get flamed/"called out" by...

Getting the Word out on the Ennies products

Here are some brainstorming ideas/thoughts. Take them and do as you will :) Reviews, be they formal reviews or mini reviews via blog, are a good idea. Just having a list of products "currently under consideration", with links to reviews already written, would be a way to go. Put the link in...

[GRIM TALES] Wulf Ratbane's SLAVELORDS of CYDONIA

Teddy had heard this before -- ". . .I know it when I see it. . . not that corpse, Teddy. No, the other one. Well, the other other one. Don't make that face at me. This is important. No, this body won't do, either. I need something a little more. . .stiff. Maybe that fellow over there...

Want more Rachael Ray? Who doesn't...

Did anyone see the one where Rachel was in Amsterdam? She ended up with $10 left because some guys bought her drink at the bar she went to. :D My wife and I joke that she's a stingy tipper (straight %15).

Want more Rachael Ray? Who doesn't...

PB&J sandwich almost flew out of my mouth when I read this. Nigella = hot. Giada = hot at first glance but bothers me when I watch her show. It's totally food porn. It's shot differently than any other food network show and Giada uses the word "creamy" about 300 times in every episode. "You...

    It's FRIDAY!!!

Hanging curtains. Seriously, my wife is working tomorrow, it's too wet to finish staining the deck (which kinda sounds like toting the pumpkin, now that I think about it), so I'll be putting up the curtains we just bought. Maybe I should change my name to "fru-fru-girly-girl". I will...

    Assassin Fixation...Psychological Discussion at Work

The anti-hero/outlaw is also iconic in the American mythos. He's there in the Man-with-no-name Eastwood characters, in Rambo, even in Johnny Cash songs. Although there's always consequences in Johnny Cash songs. The guy who shot a man in Reno just to watch him die (which sound like a kewl...

    2006 ENnies Judge Voting Poll/Thread

Good point. I'm sure my perspective is itself skewed because I hang out an ENWorld and game with older people, so I guess I was generalizing off of my own experience. But I'd also consider you (at 19) and even folks slightly younger as adult gamers, as distinguished from children (say 13 --...

    2006 ENnies Judge Voting Poll/Thread

I'm male. I'll take a stab at a few of those questions as well, since I have some time this morning (to hell with grading papers!) :) I'm fairly neutral on this one; as a consumer, I just need an organized site that allows me to find what I need quickly, while allowing me to explore some new...

    Given Unlimited Time, I'd play/GM...

I would run this wild-west meets Arabian knights meets Stephen King campaign I've had on my mind for years now, using modified Grim Tales rules. Although, right now, I'd settle for anything. I'm going through withdrawl.

    Nic Cage a Superman fan?

I had a customer at the comic store I used to work at whose credit card would occasionally get declined because the card company thought he had died. He'd give me the card to run and say "Let's see if I'm dead today." What can you do? Call up the card company and say "I'm not dead, you idiots!"?
