Rel's Faded Glory II (Thanks Old One) Final Update 7/14

Now finished the backlog, and anxiously waiting for more! I see that Raven is a student of the Wulf school of trap disarmament. :)

Rel's Faded Glory II (Thanks Old One) Final Update 7/14

Ilrath seemed to crit at the most appropriate times - was this sheer luck, or were you avoiding killing all the characters before the players had become attached to them, so you could kill them later in a much crueler fashion?

Just started reading your storyhour from the beginning, and it's a lot of fun! There seems to be a definite trend in the Faded Glory setting. :)

    Wanted: Jack Vance Suggested Reading

It doesn't explicity state that the wizard 'forgets' the spell, but he certainly 'memorises' it: And after casting the spell once the magician is unable to cast it again without consulting his books again. This is detailed well in the second vignette in the first book. Since the spells...

[OT] Hurting. (I warn you, this is *very* OT

What can I say? I'm too young to have gone through any experiences like that. But you seem like a very mature and intelligent man, there must be opportunities out there for you. You just need to find them.

    Wanted: Jack Vance Suggested Reading

A spell is cast by chanting a number of syllables. These syllables are so cogent that they must be forced into the brain by a trained mind. Once the sorcerer has cast the spell, he is no longer able to do so until he again consults his books. This indicates to me that the syllables no longer...

House? - I'm to poor to own a house!

As a thief, which house are you more likely to target? The one belonging to the rich merchant with several elderly guards, or the one that belongs to an absent warrior who is known to have slain a dragon, knows a divination-capable wizard and gets really personal about his possessions?

    Making Gunpowder, Need Help Quick!

Don't you mean *make sure* it gets wet? You shouldn't be grinding the stuff dry. Extracting/recrystallising saltpeter from dung could take a bit of work, although it isn't too difficult. Elemental sulfur would have to be obtained from somewhere. And you need to get the proportions right, or it...

    Questions about Gate

Same thing as the holy-water ocean, but try opening a gate to the paraelemental plane of magma, then teleporting out very rapidly. This trick could be demonstrated harmlessly using the paraelemental plane of ooze.

The beginnings of the Eversink chronicles of the Defenders are on WSmith's website. I don't of any others.

Need some help creating a magic item(artifact)

I think an appropriate disadvantage would be that the wearer *has* to fight against the enemies of the elves, even if he is not ready or they are too strong for him. Thats why the wearer always gets overwhelmed soon after they take it up.

Variant arrows for D20 (moved from the general forum)

The grapnel arrow, while appearing in some games, is just silly. Whilst the cord may be able to support 200 pounds (nylon?), the arrow would certainly be pulled out long before that. And a grapnel head should not do more damage than a sharpened broadhead.

How big can a spellbook get?

There's no reason why a spellbook couldn't stretch across multiple volumes. Or, I think a neat application of the extradimensional principle would be to create a slim volume that contains more pages than it possibly could.
