D&D 5E (2014) Is 5th Edition Directly Descended from Star Wars Saga Edition?

Saga was one of the bridges to 4ed and most of the similarity between it an 5ed are also in 4ed. (except for maybe the fast play pert.) Though when you get down to it, 5ed is a big mix that means a lot of people see their thing in it.

How different RPGS handle progress/tech/advancement levels

I think future mentioned it in a sidebar too. You could have civilizations with different levels in different areas. Like you could have a civilization with PL 6 medical, but PL5 guns. It's not bad. (Though mixing PL levels in that system was kind of a bad idea given how big a gulf they have...

How different RPGS handle progress/tech/advancement levels

It's always a straight line progression isn't it. That was the thing that kind of nagged me back when I read the concept in D20 future. It's not that supportive of diversity in tech styles by itself.

    Starship Bridge Battles

Wouldn't the main action be engaging with the other starship? I mean the boarders would be a part of the other ship. The starship might also be supporting their boarders with things like healing rays, and supporting fire. Your starship can also support you with things blast doors and shields...

    Starship Bridge Battles

Maybe base the roles off of roles that we already know are fun. Something like science or coms officer could play more like a mage with different buffs and debuffs they can throw out. Captain like a bard or maybe cleric (though not including a captain at all is a good choice.) Engineering could...

    Starship Bridge Battles

I like Gradine's idea of having all the players take their turn at the same time. It means less dead time for each player, and lets them plan easier. As to games you could look at, battlestations is one, or maybe FTL. I thought about doing starship battle rules, and my first plan was to kind...

BBEG advice... How to deliver good BBEG?

Make them a dragon. Like one thing you can do is make the BBEG physical a brute so that your players realistically can't kill them until they have leveled up enough. You still run a risk that they will get a lucky hit, but you will run a risk in every fair option.

    Fantasy with no magic

Just play with the laws of physics. Like I wanted to do spelljammer, but I didn't like how magic depended it was, so I changed the rules about how space worked. I put air in it and space winds so there wouldn't be a need for magic helms. The reason space had air in it wasn't magical. It wasn't...

D&D 5E (2014) Who would want to see rule books annotated with developer quotes on the system's mechanics?

The DM is always making up the rules as they go along. Though it is better to just be honest about that fact. I would really like to read some a book with extra annotations, but more for fun. I kind of doubt that it would make the rules clearer.

    D&D 3.x 3ed DC to 5ed DC

Is there a chart or formula that shows the differences in DCs from 3ed to 5ed D&D? I would be shocked if something like this didn't exist, but I don't think I have seen it. I have tons of old 3ed books and I want to press some of them back into service.

D&D 5E (2014) Is Anyone Using Variant Encumbrance?

I really shouldn't try. It's one of those rules that not only do I forget. I forget that I forget it. If I was going to use it, I think I would try to make it a lot tighter and simpler. Something like you can carry one extra item for every point of your str modifier, or maybe something with...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you allow adult situations in your games?

Some of guides did have tables for your body parts. They would attach rules to it and it just kind of looks really bad on review.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you allow adult situations in your games?

That wasn't that good of a book if I recall. Most of the books on the topic from that time don't hold up well anymore

D&D 5E (2014) Do you allow adult situations in your games?

I think order of the stick did a good comic explaining where half orcs come from I just can't find it right now. I try to play light most of the time. I make a little bit of effort to avoid anything too dark. I don't ever plan on introducing the R word for example. However it doesn't stop my...

How do you feel about nudity in RPG books?

I wonder how people are picturing the mechanics around sex working? Like have people thought about it and what mechanical form it would take? As a whole social play tends to play out completely different then most other forms of interaction. Like it's often very detailed and concrete compared to...

How do you feel about nudity in RPG books?

When it comes to eroticism in table top games, I think I can count the number of games that do it on my hand. (That includes the one I am "making" myself.) And no they aren't all that popular. They tend to be kind of artistic endeavors that people make for a reason other then money. Ironically...

Your Favorite Core Mechanic sans Setting?

I really like my core mechanics to be simple because your going to be piling a lot on top of it and a nice simple start gives you a lot of room to grow. The D20 is my choice, but if you don't want that because it's squiggly use a hand full of D6. I forget what system it was, but it was basically...

D&D 5E (2014) RE: Tarasque vs. 5th lv. Wizard scenario - how does Wizard know to use Acid Splash?!?

You can't really separate player knowledge from character knowledge, so it's maybe just a good idea to assume that the characters all know the basics and well know facts. If you want to surprise them, then your going to want to change the rules. As to the question of how a wizard knows to use...
