    D&D 5E (2014) Whimsy in your game?

I don't use all of the monsters because I consider some to be too gamey. I don't mind a little whimsy, especially in a game where Fey and their unseelie counterparts are a major presence. What I don't like is a game that is a spoof of itself. I have seen someone on the board write that no one...

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrogation skill challenge in 5e

Ease them into it. If they have been hacking their way through, they won't appreciate you suddenly making that a bad thing. Have a group try to surrender, and if they kill them anyway, at least it gets them thinking. After that, maybe at some point you could arrange for a consequence if they cut...

D&D 5E (2014) It's not the size, it's how you use it (Versatile Weapons)

I am after either a long-sword alone or a rapier alone. Sorry if I confused my point with details.

D&D 5E (2014) It's not the size, it's how you use it (Versatile Weapons)

This is a bit problematic, because average damage for versatile weapons is only 1-1.5 behind their two-handed counterparts. Adding 1/2 strength would mean that versatile weapons would out-pace the larger versions pretty quickly, which seems to defeat the purpose. I like the parrying dagger...

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrogation skill challenge in 5e

Wow, I am not a fan of the 4e skill-challenge system, but what it lacks in inspiration you have made up for in detail in your implementation. Well-done.

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrogation skill challenge in 5e

Two words: "We surrender." Seriously though, I feel like most fights, even in a fantasy dog-eat-dog world like D&D, don't end in the annihilation of one side or the other. In my study of history I found that IRL these kind of undisciplined actions usually go until there are a few downed on each...

D&D 5E (2014) It's not the size, it's how you use it (Versatile Weapons)

Maybe I watch too many movies or read too much Wheel of Time, but I like the swordmaster archetype who uses a medium-sized blade in both hands. However, it seems under-served in 5e, since versatile weapons are a whole step down from two-handed weapons in terms of damage. I know the point is that...

[UPDATED AGAIN!] SOUTHLANDS HEROES - New Character Options for D&D From The Folks Who Made TYRANNY O

It will be even harder in 5e because large-size monsters wielding large versions of weapons roll the damage die twice. The enlarge spell, on the other hand, has a flat damage die bonus, I think 1d6, which feels like a cop-out to me as a player and a necessary restriction to me as a DM. That...

[UPDATED AGAIN!] SOUTHLANDS HEROES - New Character Options for D&D From The Folks Who Made TYRANNY O

My little brother is playing a werebear. His damage is normal, his HP is normal, he just turns large when he rages (he's a barbarian). I even made him pay for the high STR of a werebear at creation with points+increase, and charged him an ability increase just for the transformation (so it's a...

I have talked and talked about how I hate APs. This looks pretty awesome.

New D&D Monthly Survey: Mystics & Psionics

I like the class, I don't like what they're doing with the story for dark sun.

    Ranger Rehash

I like it so far. I will have to read it through, at the very least I will have some copy editing notes for you. Nice work!

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e with Young Kids

I played a one-on-one game with my 8-year-old nephew and had him run three characters. It went very well. There wasn't a lot of roleplaying, and I condensed most of the out-of-combat decisions into binary choices (do you want to press on to Phandelver or go after the goblins?) so it came out as...

Stress Tracks and Consequences as resource depletion

I apologize if I started off this thread with my hat in my hand asking for help and now I am all opinionated. In my defense, I have been reading FATE Core a lot this week and that gave me some ideas. You both were very helpful, for different reasons.

Stress Tracks and Consequences as resource depletion

Right, but the consequences are supposed to be related to the attack that caused you to take them. If you are taking stress on a new track, it implies there may be a new brand of consequences.

Stress Tracks and Consequences as resource depletion

I don't think so. You're suggesting that anything that has consequence slots in integral to the existence of the character. So you should only use the wealth variant if running out of money is a character-ending consequence? I don't believe that is their intent with all extras that use stress...

New D&D Survey: What Do you Want From Older Editions?

I feel like they could do a warlord with temp hp, temporarily granted DR, and downtime healing bonuses. The kind of guy that helps you find strength you didn't know you had, story wise, and the kind of class that prevents damage rather than heals it, mechanics -wise.
