    D&D 5E (2014) Likes and Dislikes?

Dislike: No battlegrid, but easily changed. Like: The easy character creation.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5' Step and AoO

That's fine. Different, but equally valid, viewpoints, hope we can agree?

    D&D 5E (2014) 5' Step and AoO

To me running through lines of enemies to get to a target at the back is engaging, not disengaging. Therefore I would be inclined to disallow it's use in that way. Or of course the opponents can use that tactic also.

D&D 5E (2014) [Rules Question] Opportunity Attacks and Total Cover

I have only played the game once so far. However I think that AOO should be adjudicated on a case by case basis using common sense. Although the Xorn in the example above could possibly have used the disengage action to avoid AOO.

D&D 5E (2014) Nonmagical arrows and magic bows

If I were the DM I would rule that a magic bow imparted its magic to it's ammunition. At least until the DMG is available. as for the fire and ice I would rule that it does the higher amount of damage from Steam.

D&D 5E (2014) Let's break the Ring of Spell Storing

As a DM I love all these "break the game" threads. gives me lots of ideas for my NPC's.

    D&D 5E (2014) Preview 3: Rings

With my player hat I think I would prefer to know how many charges I had left. With my DM hat on, even with the extra paper work I would rather keep the players in the dark. Perhaps get on of those "clicker" toys for children. When they try to use an item that has run out of charges click it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Preview 3: Rings

Has anybody else noticed the recharge rate on the ring of shooting stars. 1d6. Use your charges wisely, you may only get one charge tomorrow if you use all six today. I like that you have that as a recharge.

D&D 5E (2014) What previous edition books would you like to see re-done?

I would vote for a 5E version of Psionics. Also Dungeonscape, the Factotum class was one of my favourites. (In fact may have a go at creating a unofficial 5E version). The general advice on dungeons, traps and so forth were very good.

D&D 5E (2014) The Case for a Magic Item Shop?

One other thought is that you somehow befriend an intelligent creature that has dark vision and can communicate with you, and is also stealthy. Maybe a imp that has been badly mistreated by it's demon master and is grateful that you have rescued it. It then attaches itself to you despite it's...

D&D 5E (2014) The Case for a Magic Item Shop?

Being at a disadvantage because your skill set doesn't match the current environment for a session or two is fine and challenging. Feeling that you have a redundant character for an extended period is not good. The DM should have thought of the problems before using the scenario. However, DM's...

D&D 5E (2014) Woo Hoo, Invisibility Stopped It's Downward Spiral

With invisibility you can be detected by other methods than making a noise. You may be detected by Scent. No matter how clean you think you are to animals you have a detectable smell. You may leave tracks in snow, sand, dust flour, and so forth. You may cause a flame to flutter by moving too...

D&D 5E (2014) Non fantasy setting book or books for 5th edition

I believe that the framework of 5E can be adapted to other genres. There have already been some done and can be found elsewhere in EnWorld, Gamma World would be my favourite to adapt.

D&D 5E (2014) DMs, how are you managing the Lucky feat?

Pretty much as Lancelot has said. It's up to the players to remember what their characters can do, but with leeway for newbies.

    D&D 5E (2014) General Feats Discussion

The feats offer another way to individualise characters. I am happy that there are few, and hope that by and large it stays that . Certainly do not want the proliferation of feats in 3.5. Having said that I can see scope for well chosen and crafted feats. For instance if/when Eberron comes...

What is your Favorite Version of D&D?

I have played all editions except 4th, and 5th. I have enjoyed all the versions I have played. BECMI as per the Rules Cyclopaedia was great fun, and I would vote the Rules Cyclopaedia as the best book of D&D Rules ever. It was the complete game. It was my favourite version to DM. My...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Druidcraft useful?

Whether or not Druidcraft is given free or not it can be a useful cantrip as thalmin demonstrated above. It is one of those sneaky spells that often don't seem useful, then you find lots of applications in game. Being able to instantly light, or snuff out a small flame can be very useful.

    D&D 5E (2014) Prestige classes in Next?

Maybe prestige classes could be a form of later career background. The PC gains proficiencies in two skills and/or tools, maybe a language, equipment suitable for the role, such as a uniform, a dragon-marked sword, a messengers bag, a badge of office. A speciality suitable for the role...
