Which still doesn't mean there was necessarily an exact match in philosophy with the level of magical items handed out...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Concentration Bugging You?

Not really. A) we were right up in their faces, no time to build a barricade unhindered (especially with a sphere zooming around setting fire to things) B) this was their strategically important (but basic) guard tower we were attacking, retreating and letting us burn it to the ground isn't a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Concentration Bugging You?

The thing is even situational spells can be pretty strong when those circumstances arrive. By making it stronger the rest of that time you make it even more powerful when it has its chance to shine. My group made good use of it a couple of weeks ago when we were pinning a large group of orcs in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on spending gold ...

OR for roleplaying perhaps? Just because there's no space for "castle" on your stat block doesn't make it meaningless for a roleplaying game.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Concentration Bugging You?

Silence the enemy lookout or guard animals just as you charge them. Once you get into a building or dungeon... Silence the sounds of breaking down a door/into a chest. Bring a prisoner to the corner of a room, cast silence on the rest of it and interrogate him in that pocket of sound. Silence...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Concentration Bugging You?

And you're interpreting my scenario in such a way that you can be pessimistic. Where did I say that the silence/grapple needs to be in the first round? Or that it has to last indefinitely? Also it's far from the only scenario to maximise silence in combat - how about a Sentinel melee next to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Concentration Bugging You?

You're just providing evidence for DaveDash's assertion that you don't think very tactically. Your fighter grapples the NPC spellcaster on his turn, then you cast silence. Boom, BBEG made almost harmless.

    D&D 5E (2014) First Time 5E: Options?

I'd simply make the -5/+10 only apply once per turn, like sneak attack. That'll keep it under control while still making it useful, particularly in situations where you have advantage/bless/+X weapons or whatever.

[Updated] Chris Sims & Jennifer Clarke Wilkes Let Go From WotC

The PHB was right up there in Amazon's best seller list for weeks, like in the top 5. That is a very strong sign of good sales. According to other authors' comments on the past that can mean over 10k copies shifted per day, on US Amazon alone.

    D&D 5E (2014) magic items prices

I'm missing the part where typical fantasy worlds have populations in the region of 7 billion participating in their economies. Think high end art dealing in the Renaissance, not the late 20th century or early 21st. The population interested in such extreme luxury goods wouldn't be sufficient...

    D&D 5E (2014) magic items prices

Remove the word "normal" if it makes you happier. My point stands. Auction houses aren't shops, and that's where real high-end art equivalent to rare magical items changes hands rather than shop-like Galleries. You seem kinda desperate.

    D&D 5E (2014) magic items prices

Please note, readers: this is a strawman. It's suggested that magic items are special and rare, and bought and sold like very high-end art in our world. Private trades, irregular auctions and so on. Nobody in this thread or WoTC is saying they should not be bought or sold, just that they...

How's D&D Working Out For You? First official feedback survey looks at CLASSES and FEATS!

I suggested they make the -5/+10 feat abilities be restricted to 1/turn, they affect damage too much otherwise. The "more powerful" questions will make sense on a large scale, with thousands of responses. Mathematically that's incorrect, they happen at a pace to keep the rogue close to par...

    D&D 5E (2014) pact blade question

I thought it was more about stopping Warlocks from sending Sentient and Artifact weapons into a demi-plane at will in order to avoid the conflicts that can be triggered with the magical item. Or to avoid the outcome of a conflict. In addition some of the Major detrimental properties of...

D&D 5E (2014) Any News On The 5e Video Game Front?

Well Beamdog have mumbled about wanting to produce a new D&D game a bunch of times after updating the old Bioware Infinity Engine ones. If that were to happen they could well use 5E.

D&D 5E (2014) Clerics of Life: Broken, Bad Design, or Working as Intended?

Generally identical magical spells and effects don't stack in 5E. You could still let the unique parts of the aura from different subclasses stack without the flat modifier.
