Monster Manual IV vs. Tome of Horrors III

I haven't yet purchased a 3e monster manual (the first MM was a gift, several years back) ;) I have so many 2nd Ed creatures to use that I just haven't seen the use in buying another Monster reference just yet, except maybe to take some of the work out of converting the 2nd Ed ones (since I...

Converting monsters from First Edition modules

Losing the nat armor bonus is much easier to document, isn't it? +4 bonus to resist trip attacks? And for the darts -- I would say the larger ones would have larger darts, delivering a larger payload of poison, say increase the save DC by 2 for each size category larger than small? (medium DC...

Converting monsters from First Edition modules

I'd vote for reducing the nat armor bonus rather than flat out losing it. I'd expect the underside to be underarmored, but not entirely unarmored. Say the underside has just 50% of the nat armor? 25%? Am I getting too complicated? Probably.

    Sudden Stalagmite

I would say this is a case of "DM's call". I probably would not allow this to work through an iron floor, either (especially on the 2nd floor or higher). A wooden floor? Maybe. Also: Bursts from the ground. Ok, so it bursts from the ground. You're on the 2nd floor. The ground is ~10...

Converting monsters from First Edition modules

How's this for Crush? Crush (Ex): a bozorg can roll over a prone or helpless creature, dealing crushing damage with its considerable weight. The damage dealt varies according to the bozorg’s size: Small (4 ft): 1d4 damage (+Str mod) Medium (8 ft): 1d8 damage (+Str mod) Large (12 ft): 2d6...

Giant by Poll - The Creature Thus Far (recovery effort)

Just a grammar and spelling correction in the flavor text: should be "are interrupted", as we're talking about the sounds :) Otherwise, I think it looks good!

That's right; just keep on in the same pattern ;) Sweet! What's next? Work on Crush?

    DUNGEON Magazine Monster Index!

I remember the floater from 2nd Ed. IIRC, it's really a gas spore. Looks like a beholder at long range. Any damage dealt causes it to explode. I have it in one of my 2nd Ed compendiums...hell if I can remember which, though. Though the gas spores were much smaller (standard beholder-sized)...

    D&D 3.x Creature Catalog 3.5 Overhaul Project

I like the rewrite on Acid (Ex), BOZ. It's more condensed, but contains all the important info, and answers the "what if" questions (what if i fall in it, etc).

Giant by Poll: Post-crash Poll #16: Name Finalization

Motion to re-poll and allow a single selection from each voter?

Converting monsters from First Edition modules

I wouldn't say a table is necessary for the cone size and damage; Mortis' text is concise enough, yet contains all the necessary info. Shrinking the cones down would probably be a good idea, say: Small (4 ft) bozorg: 10 ft cone; damage 2d4 fire. Medium (8 ft) bozorg: 20 ft cone; damage 3d4...

I think these both look good. Pretty intuitive.

Giant by Poll: Post-crash Poll #16: Name Finalization

Well...awesome. My double vote gives us a tie between the 2 that I voted for. Of the two, I prefer Glupskulle over the single "l".

For the Forbicilith's Shear attack -- would it be 6x damage on a crit, since they are x3?

Converting monsters from the second edition Monstrous Compendiums

    How's this? For stats: Str 19, Dex <same as orc>, Con 16, Int <same as orc>, Wis 14, Cha <same as orc> Racial modifiers when needed: +6 Strength, -2 Intelligence, +2 Wisdom, -2 Charisma

    Misc. Monsters

Woot! :) I've been looking through some of your additions, but haven't gotten a chance to do more than skim yet. I'll take a closer look soon. Really like the Meat Hook ability for the Metzgermeister. Creepy!

    Twig Blights!

Nicely done, Pants! (saying that seems strange...but I do mean it) I look forward to having an opportunity to use these creatures, as well.

    D&D 3.x Creature Catalog 3.5 Overhaul Project

I find it funny that for all their hp and power, they only have AC 10. I'd say this fits the bill. I'd vote for Immune to both disease and poison. Yes, yes I do. I say rock throwing and catching looks good.
