Pathfinder 2 Playtest Preorders, Podcasts, & "Pathfinder 1.5"

I think niche customization builds should be available, but it should be more about giving you options you didn’t have. Not about pulling your character up to a baseline to be competitive at all. One of the biggest problems in PF1 was the difference in power between optimized and unoptimized...

Pathfinder 2's Critical Hits & Failures! Plus Save-or-Suck and Damage On A Miss!

They said in one of the threads a couple weeks ago that all spells DC scale to the caster level.

Pathfinder 2's Critical Hits & Failures! Plus Save-or-Suck and Damage On A Miss!

Yeah but it sounds like that attack is giving up something like power attack. I could see it being used for iterative attacks on high attack characters to try to eek some more damage out when that attack is far less likely to crit. So far we’ve seen mostly exclusive attacks (power attack...

Pathfinder 2's Critical Hits & Failures! Plus Save-or-Suck and Damage On A Miss!

They have said they’re doing a monster/npc character creation more similar to what they did in Starfinder. That should get rid of one of the worst issues of PF in customizing encounters and prepping sessions taking too long. Similarly they are removing a lot of complexity from combat which...

Pathfinder 2E We need a damage on a miss forum again!!

Magic missile despite not being a very good spell does have some appeal because of the fact that it can’t miss, despite the inferior damage result. I’m not sure why giving fighters something similar is breaking anything.

Pathfinder 2's Critical Hits & Failures! Plus Save-or-Suck and Damage On A Miss!

Yeah it is a more complex system than just the old binary pass/fail. If you want that I’m sure 5e and other games are fine to play. This will really affect a lot of things and give a lot more depth to characters and combat so I’ll enjoy that.

Pathfinder 2 Playtest Preorders, Podcasts, & "Pathfinder 1.5"

Sadly too many PF1 players find this a feature of the game. Like I am quite a master at doing this in PF, but I know everyone doesn’t work like this. Like my inquisitor has the combat expertise/shared teamwork feats/pack flanking/outflank/paired opportunist combo so when either me or my animal...

Pathfinder 2's Critical Hits & Failures! Plus Save-or-Suck and Damage On A Miss!

That will likely be a difficult rule to house rule out. You could easily house rule out level based modifiers to skills for example. But critical hit/fail are going to be everywhere. Sure you can ignore those options on spells, but that will leave save and suck in an odd spot. Dominate for...

Pathfinder 2's Critical Hits & Failures! Plus Save-or-Suck and Damage On A Miss!

What I’m not understanding is your comment that this increases tracking. I assume when you do saves/skills/attacks you check the roll vs the DC. I’m not sure why throwing in the +/- 10 increases tracking. It increases complexity for sure, since many binary spells are now 3 or 4 options. Same...

Pathfinder 2's Critical Hits & Failures! Plus Save-or-Suck and Damage On A Miss!

I don’t see why the +/- 10 increases bookkeeping. Dm goes “make a will save”, player goes “8”, DM goes “you critically fail”. It’s not hard or difficult to track. What could be difficult to track is that it does increase complexity on spells. Similar to this the ranks of skill proficiency adding...

Pathfinder 2 Playtest Preorders, Podcasts, & "Pathfinder 1.5"

I've watched a good deal of 5e and I do own the books and have read them and played a little, but not nearly as much as PF. I did make the comment on the battlemaster being an option that gave actual different things to do. But yeah most martials in 5e is just move somewhere and whack something...

The corebook alone will have more customization options than 5e will likely ever have.

Pathfinder 2: Crits, Skills, Scaling, & Proficiencies!

    1. Natural 20 and natural 1 are always crits/fumbles, regardless of spread. This has been confirmed in the LPs. 2. I don't think the +/- 10 rule adds that much complexity, I assume most people here when they play the player tells them what they rolled. "My roll with mods is 25". You as the DM...

Pathfinder 2 Playtest Preorders, Podcasts, & "Pathfinder 1.5"

Yeah I would not call new subclasses that 5e has to be much in the way of options. They are mostly minor changes that slightly alter how a character play. Sometimes you get something cool like Battlemaster, but for most of the classes the difference between Fighter A and Fighter B is negligible...

Pathfinder 2E Paizo's Stephen Radney-MacFarland Previews The Rogue Class For Pathfinder 2nd Edition!

Plenty of classes had insta kills as capstones in PF1, plus many caster spells at high levels also did it. But pretty much all of them had catches like fairly reasonable saves. Aka it’s going to kill something lower level a decent amount of the time but that’s it.

Pathfinder 2E Paizo's Stephen Radney-MacFarland Previews The Rogue Class For Pathfinder 2nd Edition!

Yeah, PF1 barely had any immune monters with sneak attacks. The list is basically elementals, oozes and aeons. Undead and constructs were the two big immune types in 3.5 that became vulnerable in PF1. Note one thing that was disclosed in the LPs but not in this blog is that rogues do roll their...

Pathfinder 2E Paizo's Stephen Radney-MacFarland Previews The Rogue Class For Pathfinder 2nd Edition!

It's a debuff on the creature, so its a -2 penalty. The point with these blogs is they're just going and giving some class feats that a character can take. There is a lot we don't know. Are we for example sure that all "feats" revealed so far are rogue or fighter only? For example it would be...

Pathfinder 2E Paizo's Stephen Radney-MacFarland Previews The Rogue Class For Pathfinder 2nd Edition!

I didn't see anything too substantial on them being ripped for going with the fighter. The fighter reveal told us one thing we already knew (only fighters getting AoO by default) and then gave us like 5 feats and a couple class features. All were received pretty well other than perhaps the level...

Pathfinder 2E Paizo's Stephen Radney-MacFarland Previews The Rogue Class For Pathfinder 2nd Edition!

The game has way too much cruft from 3.5, they needed to clean it up. As for the preview it seems fine although I am wanting to read the skills blog to have more of an idea what we can do with all the skills. Here they were mostly showing class feats, so it makes sense it’s combat focused. Sneak...

    Pathfinder 2's Proficiency System Explored
