    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

Well again, Avenger attacked with Wisdom, not Dex. Too late, you got me intrigued. Level 3: Holy Blade: You gain proficiency martial 2-handed melee weapon and can attack using your Dexterity modifier. The weapons damage is equal to your martial arts die and count as Monk Weapons Oath of...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

Should be ok as a subclass feature. I mean, Beserker adds 2d6 damage. Zealot adds 1d6+2. So going from 2d6+Dex with two short swords to 2d6+Dex+2 greatsword and +1 AC isn't a huge power bump. That said, Avenger is Dex and Wis with high mobility, and lowish HP. Seems more like a monk subclass...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

Dex barbarian works just fine. You just lose rage damage bonus and reckless attack. but get higher AC and initiative instead. Zealot doesn't care about using Str. For extra fun, take Slasher, a Whip, and use Hamstring at level 9. But yea. Monk needs a heavy armor subclass to work well at...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

Defense is nice, but you can't use a shield + grapple + deal any damage. Pick 2. And I don't see the point of Shield Master. You already have a bonus action to knock prone or push, and evasion. You're -1 from monk levels, and -3 from Dex. Meaning your +2 at the highest level, and -4 with...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

Not as tough as a straight monk with the same choices. Your AC falls behind, Deflect Attacks is behind, initiative is behind, dex saves fall behind, your movement is behind, and your damage is way behind. At lower levels you have maybe +1 AC and some extra HP from second wind. So yea, you're a...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

Thematically, sure. They aren't. You skipped a sentence for the first one. But in conclusion, Heavy Armored Monk is feasible at lower levels, but gets kind of weak as you go up. So... it needs a subclass.

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

It doesn't say instead. "Flurry of Blows. You can expend 1 Focus Point to make two Unarmed Strikes as a Bonus Action." Useless for damage, but you can still use them to grapple and prone, or stunning strike.

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

A spell-less wizard is not feasible. But maybe I we can discuss a Str one in another thread.

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

Which is 18 AC. also, Fighters don't start with a shield. Paladins do. Of course you can just buy it. And how do you pull that off? Paladin using Shield of Faith? Kind of limited but sure. Sheild spell? You lose half your damage that way, but sure. Well Cleric can run Spirit Guardians +...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

Starting Equipment Chose A, B or C: (A) Chain Mail, Chain is 16, 18 with a shield. Scales to Splint (17) in the first few levels. And plate (18) in tier 2. Then hope for magic items I guess. Yea, things don't keep up quite so well at high level. Especially with less and less speed...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

You must have a pretty lenient DM to give you 1510 gold (+ food and supplies) at level 1. The starting wealth charts doesn't give 1500 till level 6 or 7. I could see splint (17) happening in at level 2 campaigns, maybe 1 if the party pooled their money to help the tank. But not plate. Not...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

I don't see how you get +2AC at level 2. It's 16 AC either way. Maybe +1 if you got your allies to pitch in buying you armor. Are you thinking shields?

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

Heavy armor starts at 16 AC, goes up to 18. Monk with 16 dex and 16 Wis has 16 AC, goes up to 22 with the capstone. Heavy Armor monk has equal or lower AC. So what math are you talking about?

D&D 5E (2024) Multiclassing and ability score drain?

I mean, kinda. If they have less than 48.5 HP they die either smite. If they have more than 58 then divine wouldn't kill them, but searing might. IMO, that's a narrow window for when divine smite works better.

D&D 5E (2024) Multiclassing and ability score drain?

It's at the start of their turn. It's not like they got a chance to do anything. I didn't include multiple rounds. Also, it was crap in 2014, and it's less damage at spell level 1 and 2 (assuming 1 round). Which doesn't have 5th level slots. Their warlock 4th level slots would deal a little...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

Sure. Shadow works mechanically, but kind of clashes thematically. (Dark Steel? 🤔) So go ahead and make a Way of the Iron Fist.

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

Way of the Iron Fist has a nice ring to it. But let me see what I can do without homebrewing first. I believe the only 3 heavy armor are fighter, paladin, and cleric. Paladin with Divine Favor would work well if I went Nick + Flurry, but lack of slots wouldn't let it keep uo. Cleric can also...
