    Grand OGL Wiki Update

What alternate game systems are you trying out if you don't like 4e?

We're still happily playing 3.5E. I might try to bring in Pathfinder at some point, but the group is happy with what we are playing.

What is so special about Greyhawk?

Having seen what happened to The Realms when WotC "re-invigorated" the setting for 4E, I'd be more than happy for Greyhawk to be quietly ignored by the Powers that Be. I'd much rather keep the Greyhawk I have now (FtA, LGG, Oerth Journal and the three Dragon AP's) than have Mordenkainen turned...

    3.5 Monster Generator....Templates?

MonsterForge (version 3.0), available on the HeroForge 3.5E Files page can also do these things. :)

obsolete poll - see new link.

We're pretty much playing 3.5E exhaustively right now. I wouldn't mind playing other stuff, but we don't really have the time or inclination to change right now. We played some RQIII last year, and agreed to go back to D&D, so it isn't like we haven't tried something different...

    Dumb terminology question...

I know that open-ended campaigns are called sandboxes, I just don't know why! Can anyone shed any light on the origins of this term? And if anyone else has any terminology questions, don't be shy, please feel free to use this thread and throw them to the good folks of our Community.

Tell me about "Any RPG" from before 1990!

Tunnels & Trolls This was were I started with role-playing. The idea was simple. All you needed was some paper, a pencil and a bucket of d6. The Rulebook is there as a guide, but you don't often have to refer to it in play. Indeed, it's there to fire imagination rather than to slavishly...

1001 Tips for Winging It: A GM's Guide to Improvising and Cutting Down on Prep Time

34: If you're writing your own stuff, you don't need to go into the detail that you find in published adventures. Don't over-write fluff text - if you have an idea of what it looks like in your head, that will do fine, describe that at the table. Only note down the important stuff (the magical...

Tell me about these older edition D&D products [list updated: Nov 20/10]

Rary the Traitor I've got it, and, to be honest, it's fairly uninspired. The map is colourful, but lacks a scale or a grid :erm:, the writing is pedestrian, and there isn't much about Rary, Robilar, et al at all. Most of the book centres on Father Eye and his duergar (hhiding on the edges of...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder: Encounter Design Simplified

Hi Wulf, Have been putting together Encounters based on your Budget system. Seems like a good system. Test-ran my first two encounters (both CR2 for a CR1 party) which should run one after another and the results were pleasing. No TPK (darnit) but all Healing spells used and two of the party...

Which Necromancer Games Adventures Worth Getting/Avoiding?

My favourite is The Grey Citadel, it has a strong plot, lots of city-based stuff, investigation and RP elements, and a kick-ass dungeon at the end. The Citadel is one of the better described cities in RP modules, with enough detail there to use as a base of operations for future campaign...

Jerry Mapes, manager emeritus of Knights & Knaves Alehouse Forum has passed.

I didn't know Jerry, nor did I visit his Forum. But my deepest condolences to anyone who knew him, and my prayers are with his nearest and dearest at this time.

Interview time - what do you want to ask WotC about their new pdf policy?

As a customer of Paizo, they sent me an e-mail saying I had until the end of 6th April to download any product that I had legally purchased. This was at the behest of Wizards. Question 1 The notice period I was given when the e-mail was sent was hours. This did not seem reasonable behaviour...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Just Keeps Looking Better

I'm writing stuff for the first times in years, based on how easy Trailblazer is making things. Works for vanilla 3.5E as well as Pathfinder. I'm stoked for the release of both, but am likely to work mainly with Trailblazer to begin with.

Tell me about these older edition products [old list]

The Greyhawk Lost Tombs Series is a bit of a mixed bag. The Star Cairns is pretty good. Five linked adventure sites, each a themed dungeon (they have a similar layout) but with different threats in them: a bandit gang; an insane beholder; a sanguine necromancer; and others. There's a bunch of...

Pathfinder 1E Free RPG Day Swag - Eberron, Pathfinder Bestiary, Geist RPG

Good to see that the Bonus Bestiary from Paizo will be available as a free download after Free RPG day. Does anyone know if the same event will be scheduled for the UK (not necessarily on the same day)?

    GM Notes: Handwritten or Typed?

I rarely have time to write adventures, so use published modules, printed out as required. When prepping an encounter, I use MonsterForge for critters (I may want to advance HD or add things) and HeroForge for classed NPC's (it's a breeze, except selecting spells for casters which can be time...

    About Reveille

As the man said. I did a sopt of moderating, some time ago, on a non-RPG board. It's a hard job. Mods need the trust both of the Community and the guy who runs the show. It's a job where I always felt that I was looking over both shoulders. As for what the Moderating Staff have done in this...
