    DM Types

Apart from Master of Ceremonies, I can see little bits of all the other DM types in me. Basically, I do just enough of all the other categories to keep the players coming back for more. And that, I think, is what is important.

How much do you prepare your adventures, and how good is your "improvisation?"

When I started DM-ing games properly (as opposed to creating deathtrap T&T dungeons 3 levels long which killed half the party in the first chamber), I tended to write down everything - bartenders' names, the colours of the raiding parties' horses, stats for NPC's the party wouldn't ever meet -...

Where on Greyhawk do you run?

My old 2e campaign ran in the Cairn Hills/ Abbor-Alz region (at first) before expanding to encompass the Free City, a trip to the Yatils, and a short trek to Tenh. Most recently I ran a campaign in the Vesve/ Highfolk/ Yatils region, which included some themes of the Wolf Nomads being...

    Published or homemade adventures?

I don't have as much time as I'd like to write an adventure, but I often knock together a bunch of adversaries and throw a 'random' encounter at the group. The majority of my last campaign was module based, with a couple of adaptations and one completely original scenario from me. Right now...

    Druid Training?

My wife is playing a Druid in our newest campaign. One of her motives for travelling up to the campaign's present base was to find a 'mentor' for additional training. Her take on a Druid seems (to me) akin to Pratchett's witches (in a way) - wisdom and lore of the land passed down from...

Temple of the Elemental Evil + Scourge of the Slave Lords + Qeeen of the Spiders

Check out this campaign journal which runs through T1-4 and GDQ1-7 (and then onto Epic stuff). The DM shows how a transition from Temple to Giants can be made as part of the ongoing story. He also has a couple of good bits of fore-shadowing (and nicks a sequence from Return to the Temple of...

    Greyhawk in 3E+ Products

If you check Erik's link to Canonfire, you'll find that the Sages there have incorporated Ghorkai into Greyhawk lore. It's a fun adventure, and I ran it (in the Yatils) last year. You should add Paizo's Shackled City Hardcover, a compilation of the Adventure Path first published in Dungeon...

I've put some links in my post as well. Not to the Necromancer stuff, obviously ;)

Best Five RPG Books You Own

Top Five, eh? Well, in the order they pop into my head: City of Greyhawk Boxed Set - a wonderful resource, lots of poster maps, adventure cards and ideas, personalities, places and gods, all crammed into two 96-page books. Still useful for me as a city resource, 20 years after publication...

    Farewell, my Friend

I've got a stack of old Dungeons somewhere, with 2e adventures wich need a conversion to 3.5e. Guess that'll give me something to do - and to remember the good times before the plug was pulled. A digital initiative - by my reckoning, that's only 0 or 1. Hmmm... Any road up - all the best to...

Perhaps no D&D 4th Edition is Being Planned Yet

I think the OP may have a point. Launching DI and announcing 4e at virtually the same time makes little or no business sense to me. What WotC need to do is build up DI and get regular readers, then tease them with 4e hints. I'd suggest a year (minimum) between DI going online and release of...

    The Font of Useless Knowledge

    24. Wizards are easy to identify. Look out for the pointy hat. 25. If you are a Wizard and wish to disguise yourself, first take off your pointy hat. 26. Always carry a 10-foot pole, in case there's something you don't want to touch with it. 27. A bird in the hand is liable to crap in...

Your Experiences with Non Core Characters

I played a Swashbuckler and loved the class: whilst light armour isn't ideal for a character designed to be in the front line, it has excellent mobility and works well in tandem with a combat-capable Rogue (and probably just as well with a skirmishing Scout). My character had Two-Weapon Fighting...

    Smaller or bigger dungeons?

A good mix of each is essential, I'd say. Keep the players on their toes, keep them looking for that secret door that isn't there, while the hungry wolves/ zombies/ dinosaurs (delete where applicable) come home and find canned goods ready and waiting for them. I've run multi-level complexes...

Which of those adventures should I get?

The old AEG adventure is The Crypt of St Bethesda, published for 3.0 in their tall thin 16-page book format, then compiled into a large tome and revised for 3.5. I set it under an abandoned Temple of ST Cuthbert which will come into play later.

Which of those adventures should I get?

More Information on the "Temple of Ra Accursed by Set." An old Judges' Guild module, and at 16 pages, the title is longer than the adventure ;) :D . As for an adventure to get, my vote goes to Barakus right now. It has all types of adventure (urban, investigation, wilderness and dungeon)...

Which of those adventures should I get?

Coils of set is this adventure - published by Necromancer through Kenzer. And yes, you are thinking of "Temple of Ra Accursed by Set" - one of the coolest D&D Adventure Titles ever (never played it, saw it listed in a magazine 20 years ago and it still lingers in my head). As for what the OP...

Advice on running high level adventures

Lots of low EL encounters en route to the BBEG can seriously damage a mid-level party's stock of spells, materials, etc. So, with a party of 9th-level characters tracking through the local warlord's fortress, don't be afraid to throw plenty of EL6-7 encounters against them to whittle them down...
