D&D General Just sweeping dirty dishes under the rug: D&D, Sexism, and the '70s

I've read the last two pages of this thread and I am baffled the moderators haven't closed it. It seems like the subjects aren't forbidden as I thought but rather certain takes on the subjects are forbidden. And I don't mean you Snarf starting the thread and I don't mean the whole thread.

D&D General Folks Who Came Back With 5E: Did You Stay with 5E?

I think it is vanishingly small if you are following my point. Of course I can't say it's ever zero for anything. And yes, that is my opinion and yes I do think it is right which is why it is my opinion.

    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

I think any style can have great story elements. And I don't put a trap on every door. You just have to worry about a trap on every door. There was a lot of kicking in the door and mopping the floor with baddies as you say. Tactics though were still required. You can't just stand in the...

D&D General Folks Who Came Back With 5E: Did You Stay with 5E?

But crunchy for their players or for themselves. That as the point I was making. They may love to provide the complexity to their groups but in my view they don't want it just for themselves. At least not on a regular basis.

So optional crunch for players would be good. Also, I think DMs want simple period. We have enough on our plates we don't need a lot of complexity on our side of the table. Players have only their characters so some of them want more.

D&D General Questions about comissioning art

I'm sure a bulk order from an established publisher would get more attention and move far quicker. This is one person with one piece which may not be first in the artists queue.

D&D General Folks Who Came Back With 5E: Did You Stay with 5E?

I do think there is a tension between those wanting crunch and those exhausted by it. If I design a game, this would be a major focus of mine.

    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

For me, I have been able to play old school style from 1e all the way into 4e though I found 4e to be very hard. It got progressively hard period so even 3e was harder than 2e which was harder than 1e. I didn't play 5e mostly because of mechanical objections not style but I suspect it may have...

D&D General What is your most prized Dungeons and Dragons Product?

Yes and I wasn't really knocking the rules. They were very streamlined and efficient compared to 1e which was needed. I just loved EGG's 1e voice especially in the DMG. I agree on settings.

    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

You must have completely misread that post. I said I disagreed with his logic but accepted his conclusion. The fact a game is a best selling game is NOT proof it is anyone's first choice. I gave the logic in the previous post. And if you are complaining about my take on the great unwashed...

D&D General What is your most prized Dungeons and Dragons Product?

The best third party product for 3e was Book of the Righteous. And while the mechanics are no longer valuable, it is still a great book for building pantheons of Deities and defining domains. I'm not the 2e lover many of you are as I think the modules were poor. If I had to pick a product I'd...

D&D General What is your most prized Dungeons and Dragons Product?

Boy it is hard to choose one. Probably my original first edition DMG. I own most of the 1e modules, many purchased new off the shelf. I've got the original Ravenloft. My favorite module is my original D1-D2 Descent into the Depths. For personal nostalgic reasons. I have a cleaner copy...

So we agree right? That was my point unless you are just agreeing with me to lend your support.

D&D General “‘Scantily Clad and Well Proportioned’: Sexism and Gender Stereotyping in the Gaming Worlds of TSR and Dungeons & Dragons.”

I think the whole original point of D&D's race restrictions was due to the longevity of demi-humans. I think a better approach would either be a max level or have x.p. required to advance massively increase almost exponentially at some point like after 20. You could pretty easily come up with...

    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

While this could be true, I don't think market dominance eliminates the idea that D&D could be everyone's second choice. If the group all likes different things, then they settle on an acceptable D&D versus playing one of the others favorites. And I am more nitpicking your argument than your...

D&D General Matt Colville: "50 years later we're still arguing about what D&D even is!"

Right. I didn't mention it could help you also but the objection for many I think is they don't like that particular sort of variability.

    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

It's kind of funny but other than non-human races using the iconic Tolkien ones including culture (somewhat), I never thought D&D was ever claiming to be simulating a Lord of the Rings experience. To me the original game was dungeon wargaming which was player skill based and involved tactics...

I've never heard of any of those. Good information.

I think you are including just a check for failure in some of those examples. I think DCC goes a lot farther. You pretty much have to chance to blow yourself up with every spell cast it seems.
