Has the Wandering Monster concept died?

I don't really use them. I may have an encounter while the party's travelling long distances, but I don't have random charts. I've only got a limited amount of time each session, I'd rather not waste it in encounters that don't substantially contribute to the story.

    DMs, what´s your preparation-to-enjoyment ratio?

Surprisingly, as my campaign's progressed deeper in Paragon Tier, I've found my prep time decreasing and decreasing. The reason being that my players have so many options and paths they can choose from now, planning the specific of each session is virtually impossible. Instead, I just keep track...

A Rose In The Wind: A Saga of the Halmae -- Updated June 19, 2014

Now that was a nice fight to read. Very satisfying reading about Mariela being trounced :) I also have to thank you for the idea I've gotten from this story hour: When I conclude the current DnD campaign I'm running, the next one I've got planned will take place in the same setting, but a...

Dark*Matter, Discovery: A Quiet Little Assignment

OOC: No worries, I'm hardly in a position to criticize over delays Initiative order: Larry: 25 Diego: 22 Cade: 12 Shooters: 8 Nick: 7 Merideth: 5 Larry, Cade and Nick opened up with their sidearms into the wide, blasting branches off of trees and throwing up puffs of snow as the bullets...

    Dealing With Prisoners

The group that I DM for has dealt with prisoners on several occasions now, either knocking them out for interrogation or them surrendering during the fight when it goes south. Their policy is two strikes and your out: After interrogation, they'll let the prisoner go with a firm warning never to...

    Mass Effect movie confirmed

I know the real story, I played it through two games. What they put in a movie won't be the real story to me. It won't be my Shepherd, my choices, my decisions.

    Mass Effect movie confirmed

If a Mass Effect movie is going to be good, it can't be based on the games, just the universe. Maybe set during the First Contact War, or following another Spectre.

Dark*Matter, Discovery: A Quiet Little Assignment

There! A flash of movement about two hundred feet into the woods. There was another crack and a muzzle flash from the position, and a burst of sparks from the side of the car. The shooter was trying to go for the fuel tank on the van, but the advanced armor Ryker had installed was working as...

Dark*Matter, Discovery: A Quiet Little Assignment

There's a crack of a rifleshot in the distance on the other side of the road from where Merideth and Diego area, and a flash of sparks as the bullet bounces of the bulletproof hood of Team Libra's car, the bullet missing Nick by maybe an inch. Inside the cave, the knight raised his sword in a...

Dark*Matter, Discovery: A Quiet Little Assignment

The man jerks spasdomically as the metal prongs sink into his back, and he collapses to the ground, the rifle dropping from his fingers as fifty thousand volts of electricity force his muscles into a spasm. The ghost shakes his head and begins to fade. "I wish I could tell you more... but I...

Dark*Matter, Discovery: A Quiet Little Assignment

The man is about sixty feet away at the moment. Quietly creeping through the snow, stalking from tree to tree, Diego manages to get within ten feet of him, as he knelt down by a log, and raised the rifle to his shoulder. ***** “Seek out tombs similar to mine, after the blade was split, we...

Dark*Matter, Discovery: A Quiet Little Assignment

The Sergeant's car started up, then pulled back onto the road, heading towards the chemical plant. A moment later, and the other squad car joined it. The Sergeant stuck his hand out the window and waved towards the forest’s edge as he drove away. ***** The old man nodded. "Very well. The sword...
