D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

There is more to it than that. There is technical quality and ranged of techniques, which is objectively measurable. Those images you post are poorly composed, however they appear to be cropped from much larger works, so it might be the fault of whoever did the cropping. The first one has...

    Actually that’s Blakes 7.

    Musings on Sci Fi Campaigns/Adventures

Some more thoughts on classic Traveller adventures. Research Station Gamma (Adventure 2). This was a mission based adventure, in the style of a fantasy RPG that was popular at the time. Go and investigate the dungeon research station and kill the monsters robots. Leviathan (Adventure 4). This...

D&D General More Details Revealed for Forgotten Realms Digital Expansions

I didn't realise how cheep the digital book was.

    Musings on Sci Fi Campaigns/Adventures

If you look at the classic Traveller adventure Twilight's Peak (Adventure 3, 1980) it assumes the players are doing these things, whilst at the same time seeding an arc plot, which, if they follow the clues, will eventually lead them to exploring some alien ruins. This is structurally similar to...

D&D General More Details Revealed for Forgotten Realms Digital Expansions

The book is listed as $60, these are listed as $15. Last time I taught maths that was a quarter, not a half.

    General video game discussion

It's as different as D&D and WH40K are. Now, most of my D&D players also like WH40K, so the assumption that there is a big overlap between people who like D&D and people who like WH40K seems reasonable. But it's obviously not 100%. The Owlcat game is tonally faithful to the IP - full of...

D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

Just because you wrote about it doesn’t make it not a steaming pile of horse manure. The person who commissions the art can describe to the software what they want. No artist required. Not that anyone will be able to afford to buy art anyway, since everyone is unemployed, having been replaced...

D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

The elephant in the room is that AI art would have done better. The reason you can tell a human did it is that Karlach and Minsc are clearly copy-pasted from other illustrations. AI would have created it from scratch (well thousands of illustrations, rather than just one per character). The...

D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

Oil painting is something AI can imitate very easily. I suspect acrylics were generally used (prior to photoshop) more than oils though. For example, as I mentioned the other day, you can see traces of the underlying drawing on the SCAG illustration, which would have been obscured by oils...

D&D 5E (2024) Next issue of Game Informer will have details on the two upcoming Forgotten Realms books

Given the “Fall of Netheril” DLC (AKA content there wasn’t space for), I would guess specifically Shadovar.

D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

I have a suspicion they deliberately blandify the standard covers in order to sell more special edition books. Thus avoiding the issue with Ghosts of Saltmarsh, where the standard cover was better than the special cover.

The opening sequence has stained glass windows featuring this style of art (don't know if same artist) to explain "Previously on Dragon Age".

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

You are getting into fine line definitions there. People often remember things differently then influence others. Since they believe what they are saying, the intent is not nefarious, but the effect is the same. Is it not gaslighting if someone doesn't know they are doing it? A very big and...

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

This is the thing. Unless you can make a falsifiable prediction you cannot reach any kind of conclusion. Which renders the question meaningless. Believe whatever you want.

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

Not fillings, but when I was at school we wedged a jack from an electric guitar amplifier into an old night storage radiator and picked up radio broadcasts.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

Very sad. Rabid fanbois with a canon fetish turn an interesting subclass into something as boring as F.

Whist I also prefer physical painting (not just "looks like") I'm pretty sure both BG3 and Pixar have made far more money than Frank Frazetta ever did.
