    Baen Books New Sci-Fi Magazine

In the past Baen's produced a magazine (a paperback magazine, actually), called Destinies that's really rather good. I've got a number of the back issues on my shelves, and enjoy flipping back through them. So, I'll have to keep an eye out for this magazine as well.

This weekend at the box office 10.31.2005

So, basically, of the 170 people polled who wanted to see a sequel of SAW, 80% of them rather liked what they got. That's not bad for a sequel.

This weekend at the box office 10.31.2005

My question is, how's this SAW II film? I understand the critics in general didn't like it... But it's not *for* critics, is it? :)

Does your group have a website/messageboard?

I've got three yahoogroups that I use for three campaigns, although one of them is dead and a second is probably dead. It's useful - you can keep track of when you're getting together, people can post if they can't show up on such-and-such a day, you can type in handouts for pernament storage...

Has anyone seen the Night Watch?

I think my brother was involved in the post-production of it... or possibly just knows someone who was, the conversation's not that fresh in my mind. He said it was really good.

    Drawn Together?

I downloaded a few of the episodes and thought they were really funny - I'm hoping to pick up the first season for xmas. There's times when it's gross out and not so funny, but the combination of the cross-parodying the various genres of cartoons, and the parodying of reality shows, really...

    Play or GM?

As best as I can figure it, in all of my ongoing games (whether I"m the GM or the player), about half of the players are GMs at one time or another. And a fair amount of the time, these are d20/D&D GMs too. So, it's complex, but there's enough ways to reduce that complexity (Use...

    GURPS-Share your thoughts

I've got a metric ton of GURPS books, but never felt the need to actually run anything with them. They're interesting and fun to read, but in my decades of gaming, I've never felt the pull to run it. They don't inspire me like other games do. D20? I've run three or four campaigns. Cthulhu...

    Weekend Movie sales

Going to the movies is dying out, slowly. People don't want to have to put up with the impoliteness of their fellow theatergoers, people don't want to sit through 15 minutes of ads before the movie starts, and people don't want to put down $6-$12 a ticket for a group when they can rent a movie...

Starting point for Dirk Pitt novels

I think the first one that I ever read was 'Inca Gold', and I thought that was was pretty good, although Sahara followed soon afterwards. A fair number of the mid-range Dirk Pitt novels can be read in any order - it's only, oh, Valhalla rising and on where he's had things happen between the...

A d20 System in Forty pages.

I rather like that. One problem with Charisma in other d20-based systems is that it doesn't do enough for most characters to be worth putting points into - thus it's reference as a 'dump stat'. However, if that caused your initial equipment to be lower, or modified your wealth in other ways...

    Woo-hoo! Heroes of Horror preview!!

I was planning to get this... but the disfigurement feats kinda clinched it for me. Ugh!

    Instead of Serenity, you saw...

I went and saw Wallace and Grommit. Smashing movie. I wouldn't mind seeing Serenity in the theatre, but I want to watch the TV show first, so that probably won't be happening.

    RPGNow EDGE Opens!

It looks kinda nice - flipped through it a bit. But that graphic? My mind keeps trying to turn that axe into a stylized 'T', and so I keep reading it 'RPG Tedge'

    DVD authoring

Well, what I have is titled 'Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator 6', but I think a version 7 may have come out since I got it. It's quite easy to use, and I've used it to create data DVDs, menued DVD movies, and just now a DVD of the Knoppix Live DVD distribution, which I was able to use to start my...

To Firewall or not to Firewall

I've got Zonealarm on my home computer, and it hasn't caused any trouble with connecting to anything. It seems to have fits when I'm using Azereus with it, but it's a fit I can put up with. Are there any other free firewalls that are worth looking into as an alternitive?

I currently use Roxio for such work, and so far it's worked fine for me.

What do you store your books in?

My books are generally in bookshelves, as well. Back when gaming involved going over to a friend's house for a weekend, I had (still have, actually) these heavy duty plastic file boxes I would use. They had pretty strong hinges, and the front was a snap-tight clasp with a metal bar that went...

    Star Wars Colossal AT-AT Mini

I don't even play the Star Wars Mini game, and I gotta say that looks cool.
