    A Game of Thrones+Magic=?

Hi I'm running a D20 campaign (or will be soon) using the AGoT D20 rules. Its a low magic. grittier world then DnD, and the background fits AGoT perfectly. The problem is that its low magic, not no magic. AGoTs magic is very...eh (You take a prestige class, and then can take feats, each feat=one...

Alternate D20 Magic Systems - Your Experiences

Quick note on EoM. In the basic file (Elements of Magic, revised), there are only 3 magic using classes. The mage (standard spellcaster) the mageknight (moderate BaB, less spells) and the taskmage (a mage with spellcasting like the mageknight, but with a focus on skills instead of combat)...

Alternate D20 Magic Systems - Your Experiences

Elements of Magic, Revised (right here in the store) is a spell point based, more flexable system. You might want to give it a try.

Worst Value for Money RPG Purchase

Any of the Monster Manuals exept for the original (and campaign specific ones). I can't understand how those monsters can go in a campaign. Epic Level Handbook. Because I really don't like epic gaming. (If you do, then its a great book)

    Does the Average Gamer Read?

Without reading LotR (and Redwall when I was 10), there would have been no way our group would have got into DnD. As it is, two members read excessivly (me included) and the others read more sparingly. Personally, I want my DnD campaigns to be like novels, rather then hack and slash comic books...

[D&D Design Discussion] Preserving the "Sweet Spot"

There are some in The Hobbit, as i recall. There is, of course, the Dwarven Magic door in FotR, but it doesnt get picked.

    Low Magic setting-several options

Well, with much studius mutterings, I think I'm leaning towards a mix between two and three. I don't want it to be to low (since in part 2, magic becomes more common--sort of) but I still want to keep it down. Magic items. Armor isnt much of a problem. The masterwork rules in AGoT mean that...

[D&D Design Discussion] Preserving the "Sweet Spot"

I think HP is the biggest problem, easily. Magic can be "capped", so to speak. Limit raise dead to suitably epic moments, limit teleport, whatever, but HP are much more ingrained in thr system. And there comes a point where the only adventure that will make the 250 HP fighter (i've seen it. Dr...

Are we all becoming balance lawyers?

I'm not a big fan of balance either. My players are horrible power gamers (as in, they can't powergame) except in incredibly nich characters (Dwarf fighters for one) so I don;t have to worry about that. We never even look at the rulebook for obscure combat rules and just do it the way we think...

    Bard's suggestion ability

Well, it doesn't work in combat... I think it probably isnt the intent, (though it is allowed by the rules) but hey, its your game. Do what you want.

[D&D Design Discussion] Preserving the "Sweet Spot"

I see the Sweet Spot as a place where you can run most adventures. Even whimpy minions are still annoying, but characters can face off against more nasty beasts without being reduced to small floating atoms. What would be nice, in my opinion, is a system that kept advancment more...subdued. As...

    D20 products with rule variations?

Game of thrones D20 doesnt do away with increasing HP, but severly limits the amount (A 20th level man at arms--fighter--only has 67 HP before con modifiers. Plus theres a Shock value that wont increase with level that triggers a fort save whenever damage is taken in excess of it. Faliure means...

Bard's Fascinate - Ever used it?

Whenever a Bard is played, fascinate is used at least twice a session. Its one of their best abilities (and it can be pretty funny)
