Can someone fill me in on the history of the late TSR/early WotC/3e period?

Donating goods to charity is a little tricky. When you donate goods over a certain amount, there is some bookkeeping that needs to be done. You need to ascertain the fair market value of the goods - which is not the cost it took you to make it. All other things aside, the value of a bunch of 1st...

Can someone fill me in on the history of the late TSR/early WotC/3e period?

Well, I am an accountant, though mostly a tax accountant these days. Generally speaking, Inventory looks good on your books - as it is an asset. In fact, as an auditor, one thing you are trained to look for is obsolete or slow moving inventory. For tax purposes, an "adjustment on the...

Can someone fill me in on the history of the late TSR/early WotC/3e period?

http://www.gygax.com/gygaxfaq.html#AD&D%20and%20My%20Leaving%20TSR Here's a fascinating FAQ on Gary (Gygax's) home page. It tells of the early days of TSR and the rise of evil - aka Lorraine.

Why are modules no longer popular

Generally I use the "Drow" test when whiddling down potential 3e adventures to buy. If I see "Drow" anywhere on the back cover description or flipping through, I put the module down as fast as I can. Actually, though, I don't know what I'd do without published adventures. With a wife, 2...

Thundarr the Barbarian all the way, baby. Best 80's cartoon for my money.

Why are modules no longer popular

I think there are some outstanding companies making modules/adventures, and I'll give an example of two that are doing it a different way. 1) Necromancer Games. Great slogan..."3rd Edition Rules, 1st Edition feel". And, for the most part, they've used that as their driving force - making...

    To anyone who uses miniatures....

Pretty good for the most part. Some of Reaper's minis stretch the limit, but in general the minis I have (wide variety) are close enough in scale that it wouldn't draw your attention.

    To anyone who uses miniatures....

I got mine at a "Michael's" chain craft store. It was $4.99 (usd) - actually less with my 40% off coupon. They had varying degrees of thickness, too. I would guess that any bigger craft store would have foamboard.

Which single non-core 3e book do you use the most?

I have been using AEG's "Toolbox" lately quite a bit for planning and on the game table. Nothing but tables, names, stats, etc. But I am finding myself increasingly reliant on this very useful book.

Campaigns you want to play (or run)

A Song of Ice and Fire, based on Martin's books. Perhaps using the grim and gritty system and the info in the upcoming Dragon Magazine article.

    To anyone who uses miniatures....

Re: All dollar values quoted are Australian. Do yer own damn conversions :P The WorldWorks stuff is marked off in 1 inch squares. In fact, you get 8 different pages of terrain with the Villageworks buildings as well. He suggests you mount them on 30*20 foamboard, and he even gives you a page...

So is this the issue with the D20 treatment of Martin's world?

    To anyone who uses miniatures....

Dwarven forge is making entire houses now? Cool! - second mortgage here I come! Seriously, I have a ton of Dwarven Forge and it is great. But as I tried to not so subtley point out, the Castleworks and Villageworks can easily coexist with the DF stuff.

    [OT] Don't buy Mitsubishi!!

Hey, I'm as patriotic as the next guy. But you have to buy using critical evaluation as a consumer. That's the only way to encourage excellence from everyone. Besides, Honda has a HUGE factory nearby in Ohio. So it's not as easy as "Buy American" anymore. There are plenty of Americans that are...

Hey there Mark! The family is doing great, thanks for asking. My son is 4 and my daughter is nearly 1 1/2 - if you can believe it (how time flies!). Hope all is well with you, my friend, too. :) Unfortunately, I do not have a real good digital camera - otherwise I would have. Funny, but my...

    To anyone who uses miniatures....

I found a VERY cool company called WorldWorks recently. They produce a line of cardstock dungeon, castle and village products, with more on the way. I bought the castle set a few weeks ago and it is sweeeet. In fact, I just used it in our game this past week - having our PC's relieve a seige of...

What's the worst sci-fi/fantasy movie you've ever seen?

Oh yeah, I still have fond memories of when Joel and the bots pointed out that one of the bad guys was wearing a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses. :) To this day, "Cave Dwellers" is the only movie I've ever walked out of....and I was 14 at the time with nothing to do. That's how bad it was...
