    The Novice (0-level class)

Nice work, I like it. Dave

    Called Shots and Maiming attacks

Very nice system neuronphaser--simple to use. I like it. I think that in some of the super-high-powered campaigns I've played in, it wouldn't work beyond about 10th level without more modification, but for a long time through low- and mid-level adventuring, it looks very good. Dave

    Origin Feats

I have been trying to come up with something like this. You've done the work for me! Thanks. Excellent idea, and excellent work. I was giving some serious thought to the different kinds of feats. Some, like Dodge or Endurance or Run, might seem to some players like useless feats, except...

Knowledge Arcana Issue 7 (D&D-themed special) Available

All, Please take a moment to go take a look at Knowledge Arcana's latest issue. Issue 7 is a special double-sized, D&D-themed issue. We have a full adventure in the issue (excellently themed for Halloween), and lots and lots of other goodies. There's even a nice (and long) interview with Ari...

Fighter variant with smoother feat progression

I don't see any problems. Each of the classes gets revamped so that the character level feats are added to the classes. It just changes the nature of when to switch classes, etc. Dave

Well, it could only last so long. :) Dave

Well, it's not Halloween, but the timing isn't too bad. Maybe I'll wait a few days to post again. :D Dave

D&D Design - Pushing the Envelope

In the d20 system, there's a 5% chance of auto-failure and a 5% chance of auto-success. In addition, in the d20 system, threat ranges work in 5% increments. What have you done with the 2d10 system to accomodate this (or have you not worried about it)? Here's what I'd think you'd probably have...

D&D and Poker: Not So Different

Sure does. I've been playing since 1980. My 17-year-old son has been playing since he was about 11 (we had fun playing a D&D-like, heavy-on-the-imagination alternative from the time he was about 6). My 12-year-old loves d20 Modern. In both cases, I play when the kids have their friends over...

Fighter variant with smoother feat progression

Of course, in the previous post, it would be just as easy to turn the wizard's feat progression into a "feat at every odd level, alternating between general and wizard feats." Dave

Fighter variant with smoother feat progression

This would probably be too ineffecient, but, we could do away with feats gained at character levels and just add feats to each and every class. We could add them in a "smooth" progression, and have some of them be "general" and some class-based. For example: Fighter feat progression (simple...

    D&D 3.x Skillless and Featless 3.5 D&D or alternative to C&C

One of the ways to make the game go faster is to make a bunch of classes, each with its own list of special abilities that it gains at each level, and get rid of feats, and then alter the skill selection so that each class gets a certain list of skills only, and as that character levels up, the...

    Reworking the magic system

I have rough ideas of what you mean in all but the last class of magic types. Can you elaborate on the True Chaos? I mean, why play anything else, given the rather stark description you've given? (Or, by "you" do you mean the caster, in which case, why have the class as no one will play it?)...

    Amulet of Continuous Turning

Very, very powerful. I agree with Rystil Arden that it should be epic (and epically expensive). Dave

Converting to 5 spell levels- Update Post #24 MP System

I've often thought the opposite would be compelling. Have more spell levels rather than fewer. A first level caster casts first level spells, a 10th level caster casts 10th level spells, etc. But, fewer could work too. One of the things I like about the game is that it's adaptable to so many...

    Lesser Bull Strength

Go for it, I don't see it being a problem. I suppose it could cause problems if the party is low level, but I doubt it. Dave

D&D Design - Pushing the Envelope

    Don't know why we're stuck on hit points, but, while we're at it, here's my system. d12-->roll d12, d10, d8, take highest, minimum of 6 d10-->roll d10, d8, d6, take highest, minimum of 5 d8-->roll d8, d6, take highest, minimum of 4 d6-->roll d6, d4, take highest, minimum of 3 d4-->roll d4, d3...

    Blood War - set list

Scans of the posters are up at Maxminis and Hordelings (and probably WotC) as well. There are some very nice-looking minis in this set. Dave

So, do you think we'll see cloaks of invisibility in our lifetime?

There's quite a bit of work that's already been done on, effectively, warping light around objects to make them seem as if they're not there. So, I'd imagine that in the next 50 years there will be such a thing on a flexible garment. I don't know what the effect of a few nuclear explosions in...

Poll: Minis, battlemats and interpretation thereof

I take the map and minis to be as accurate a representation of what's going on as the Ptolemaic model of the solar system was. It works, kinda, but it ain't accurate--at all. Dave
