From what I understand, Magic and Duel Masters do fantastic for WotC lately, better than they have in a long time. So even if D&D is under preforming (I don't know that it is doing worse than what would be acceptable) its important to remember that WotC isn't only D&D.

If I'm not getting something in my hands, I don't feel I really bought anything from you at all. CD / DVDs are a must unless you go to full blown pre-loaded USB sticks. A download code is a good freebie to get, but I'm not giving you money for a download code at a con.

As another person who managed a game store... you would be surprised at how little the owner's opinion of a product is taken into account by any customer. And you sell the product that the customer wants to buy, regardless of what you prefer.
