The Age of Worms is over! (Spoilers)

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I'd love to hear what you did with your Freeport campaign at the higher levels. Mine will probably hit 12th level this weekend and I'm always looking for new ideas to steal. Morrow

Ever run a high level party through a low level module?

I ran the 11th level party in my Freeport campaign through Crisis in Freeport (scaled for 7th-8th level characters). I increased the level of some of the NPC villains, but left the plot alone. It worked fine. The PCs used some of their high level abilities (like scry + teleport) to bypass...

    Gnome Names

Cheesey Pottydoodle. Yay me. My wife and I decided that all gnomish families should be named after objects: Astrolabe, Wingnut, Plumbob, and so forth.

    Dungeon 146

Can you blame them? :p Got mine yesterday. I'm in NH. Sorry, I don't have the issue in front of me so I can't provide an overview. Morrow

Lost Temple of Demogorgon - any tips/experiences?

I haven't run it yet, but I'm planning to run LToD soon in my Freeport campaign as a follow up to Porphyry House Horror. I intend to replace all the Trogs with Yuan-ti. The PCs will become involved when the Yuan-ti send a bunch of demons after them as revenge for busting up Porphyry House.

    Use that Magic Device!

I don't feel bad, I'm just trying to come up with opportunities to use a little used ability. Magic items seemed like a good place to start. Examples of what I am looking for: The Lightning Lance from Lords of Madness (pg. 115) is only usable by a Grell. The Serpent Symbol from Monster...

    Use that Magic Device!

While I appreciate the feedback, we haven't covered much in the way of new ground. Perhaps my mention of wands and scrolls served as a distraction from my actual question. I'm specifically interested in items that require the little used emulate a class feature, emulate a race, or emulate an...

Why don't more people play high level campaigns? 13th+

I don't really see the problem with high level spells. Sure, you've got to pay attention when you design your adventures, but its a good thing. When the party cleric lay a harm smackdown on the Yuan-ti abomination cleric I was thrilled. When the party used scrying and teleport spells to...

Why don't more people play high level campaigns? 13th+

For me, it is just because it takes so darn long to get there. All the 3e and 3.5 games I've played or DMed have started at 1st level. The 3e games ended at 5th, 10th, and ~7th levels for various reasons. The 3.5 games I'm in have been much more stable, but the Freeport game is at 11th-12th...

    Use that Magic Device!

There are two PCs in the game I DM that have ranks in Use Magic Device. They just don't get much use out of it. Between PCs and cohorts, the party already has a sorcerer, wizard, cleric, and bard. Except for the occasional item with a druid only spell, wands and scrolls tend to go to the...

Hey, how about stat blocks for the rest of the party? Morrow

    JollyDoc's Savage Tide-Updated 10/8!

Nasty, very nasty. Where was Thrisp through all this? It appears that several rounds went by between going invisible and popping up again to use the elixir of fire breath. Not that anyone could blame a beguiler for laying low when the plant monsters come to visit... So are Anwar, Samson...

    New Baby & Gaming

We took off a few months after our son was born. Now he's nine months old. These days we mostly play on Friday nights after he has gone to bed. We do have the occasional weekend afternoon game. That just requires us to take turns gaming and playing with the baby, or gaming and feeding the...

    [Rant] Playing Monsters Poorly

Are you kidding? Not a session goes by where I don't forget a monster's damage reduction, devestating spell-like ability, or vital special attack. My monsters have been the victim of bad off the cuff tactics so many times that I have to write myself round-by-round instructions. Oh well, my...

    Swashbuckling in Freeport Returns

Session 26B and 27A – Porphyry House Horror Wilarue the undead succubus proved a valuable, if reluctant, informant. The Yuan-ti of Porphyry House were lead by a halfblood named Wulvera. She had developed demon’s breath, a drug which temporarily turned those who took it into murderous...

    Swashbuckling in Freeport Returns

Session 25B and 26A – Porphyry House Horror As Sully’s falchion went flying from her hand she wondered how things had gone so wrong. It was supposed to be an easy job. After killing the gnome enchanter Mentirre Aboir and thwarting his plan to take over Freeport’s criminal gangs, Tavaari had...

Magic Item Request - Build me a cutlass

Initial Reactions The Dashing Blade is a pretty nice idea. It does have considerable overlap with the slippers of battledancing (from DMGII), which I'm keeping in my back pocket in case I need 'phat swashbuckling bard lewt' for later in the campaign. I have also considered the Reaver's...

Magic Item Request - Build me a cutlass

Well, the character is good-curious (largely held back by periodic displays of moral flexibility and the bad influence of his companions), so Holy wouldn't be thematically inappropriate. I just can't see anyone making a holy cutlass. Well, at this point the most powerful magic weapon in the...
