PHB2 Races = Mos Eisley Cantina

Can you understand that what for you is a minor detail is a major thing for others - and vice versa?

    How do you determain challenges?

The problem with that idea is that party "performance" varies a lot according to the players involved. You can't really have a static, fixed table that takes into account that Bob will play too cautious to be most effective, and that John will be too rash to use his powers best, and Lily will...

Can you railroad a willing player? (Forked from "Is World Building Necessary?")

Some players want to be railroaded. They explicitely state "You have an NPC that can order my character around, so do that, otherwise my character will just be lazying around and enjoy life".

PHB2 Races = Mos Eisley Cantina

Since when does "We can have evil PCs" or "there is sex in this campaign" equate to "Campaign direction"? I'd rate both as on the level of having a race or not. Just because you have set views on what "Evil PC" means doesn't mean you have any idea what it means for others. And it's not really...

PHB2 Races = Mos Eisley Cantina

Prima Donna? I'd not say so. People's taste and priorities and game breakers vary, but that doesn't make them prima donnas. Would you condemn a GM in the same way if he or she doesn't want to run a game for evil PCs? Or doesn't want to run a game where sex plays a role?

PHB2 Races = Mos Eisley Cantina

I'd say that if the banning of a single race ruins the enjoyment of a player, then that player should not be playing with that DM.

New Forgotten Realms designed by FR haters?

If you do not blindly love all things WotC you're a minority for some people, no matter how many you number. It really reminds me of the NGE from Star Wars Galaxies, same "if you don't like it you're a minority!" claims.

New Forgotten Realms designed by FR haters?

The FR changes remind me of Star Wars Galaxies' NGE. I'd not have expected a company to make a similar blunder, but alas, they never learn.

Was V's act evil? (Probable spoilers!)

If you have to push someone down a stairs to escape, there's no "maybe". It doesn't matter if accept or expect beforehand that the person may die as a result of your action, or don't consider that outcome - it's not murder. I am very glad I am not living in England or anywhere else where common...

PHB2 Races = Mos Eisley Cantina

The real question is: Has anyone the right to expect a DM to run a campaign that is not fun for the DM? If a race ruins a campaign for the DM, then that race is not in the campaign, simple as that.

Was V's act evil? (Probable spoilers!)

I am a laywer too, and if the only way to save yourself is to kill someone else, then it isn't murder. The lifeboat situation is not as clear cut as this, but if there's just one floating device, and it can just carry one, and there are two who cannot swim on it, then both can drown the other...

    Guess what I've got!

How much "Campaign material" (NPCs, locations, history) is there? Or, hopw useful is it as a ressource instead of an AP?

PHB2 Races = Mos Eisley Cantina

So, at the end of the day it all comes down to "If it's in an official book I have a right to play it" for some people. I hope those who follow this creed understand that not everyone considers WotC's choices to be the most optimal, or the most fun, or even fun at all. Personally, I don't...

An Epiphany -- My new Fave thing about 4E

I can do such plots and goals much better if I am not constrained by "expected goals and challenges", but tailor challenges to the individual PCs.

Forked from "An Epiphany" thread: Is World Building "Necessary"?

That's easily solved by a single knowledge religion check. "Your character knows that the gnome god has a weakness for the halfing goddess of luck". GMs who pull a "gotcha" are not tied to world building, they are a problem (for those who don't like that playstyle) of their own.

An Epiphany -- My new Fave thing about 4E

I don't get why the tier structure makes this any easier. I see nothing that prevents me from structuring any campaign, in any system, like this. I usually plot my own campaign in a similar way, just without tieing plots to level ranges.

New Forgotten Realms designed by FR haters?

You could chuck that setting into another setting, just change the names and vary the time jump. What makes the realms is the lore - if you're digging in old skuld, what will you find? The skuld from 3E, the one from "Old Empires"? Or something you made up since you didn't want to read up...

Was V's act evil? (Probable spoilers!)

Those examples were used when I studied law. They are not textbook Evil, unless you consider our (western) set of laws to be evil.

New Forgotten Realms designed by FR haters?

FWIW, I own the FR 4E CS. It failed to deliver any fleshed out regions or locations, it just has some sketches of some countries, so generic you'd not know it was FR apart from some names left. It's a new setting, and it's a shame that they had to wreck an established setting for it.
