Pathfinder 2E Is this a fair review of PF2?

I don't think it is designed to be complicated. I think it is designed to be deep in options. Can that lead to complexity and issues like the ones CapnZapp and I agree on? Yes, but to assume that Pathfinder 2E was designed in the same environment, design space, and end goal as Pathfinder 1E is...

Pathfinder 2E Is this a fair review of PF2?

Let's see, if I am remembering correctly, our Champion (me), Wizard, Cleric, Druid, and Rogue have all used it at some point in time in an encounter. The only one that I can't think of a specific instance of using it would be our Fighter.

Pathfinder 2E Is this a fair review of PF2?

I'm not ignoring the rest of your response. I can definitely see where you are coming from. Do I think they codified too much? Yes, most likely, at least regarding Recall Knowledge, but I think it is easily modified or ignored based on your preference. Should that be an excuse for designing...

Pathfinder 2E Is this a fair review of PF2?

That's fair. I don't want to invalidate your experience. The players who have used it in the group I am playing with haven't seen to much of an issue with burning the action to learn some important information, especially since they usually aren't moving all the time anyway. I certainly don't...

Pathfinder 2E Is this a fair review of PF2?

I completely agree with this. I get what you are saying here, but then we are talking about metagaming (at home) vs play. I think the cost if fair. If you want to throw something at the metaphorical wall and see what sticks then that it OK too. I see more as a way for a character to support...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mythological Figures: Cathay Williams

Thank you for your service. :) I very much doubt most people are ashamed to be American when comparing our country to 2nd and 3rd world countries. Comparing to other 1st world countries, though, that is up for debate. A debate we won’t have here of course.

Why Doesn't Star Wars Hold More Mind Share in the RPG Market?

That’s inspiring! I hope when reprints come out that I can get the rest of the books. This is the way.

Pathfinder 2E Is this a fair review of PF2?

I guess I disagree in that I don’t think PF2 is even considerably more complicated. I would say it is a little bit more complicated. I know we are splitting hairs, but I think that 5E players that are heavily invested in the rules from a mechanical standpoint forget all the things there are to...

Pathfinder 2E Is this a fair review of PF2?

I don't see PF2 as being overly more complex than 5E, but it does have much greater depth.

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E's African-inspired Sourcebook

I think you are taking some generous leaps in using “we” and saying that “we” were all content with 1E. 1E was creaking on the weight of an already refurbished chassis. There were plenty of people that were ready for something new, evidenced by so many old Pathfinder players switching to 5E and...

Pathfinder 2E Monster Arena Ultimate League Preseason! (Pathfinder 2E Monster Fighting Sim)

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E's African-inspired Sourcebook

Paizo is coming out with a dungeon oriented AP as well. Maybe that will scratch the itch?

Why Doesn't Star Wars Hold More Mind Share in the RPG Market?

Sorry, I went to school for marketing even though I work in IT now. In this sense, I just mean, for all that Star Wars tends to be right behind D&D most of the time, it doesn't seem to be talked about much (except in RPG communities specific to it), have much shelf presence at FLGSs, or even...

Pathfinder 2E Playtest Pathfinder's New Magus & Summoner Classes

Very exciting! I'll be telling my group about this playtest tonight.

Why Doesn't Star Wars Hold More Mind Share in the RPG Market?

In a nebulous way. Are you positing that Star Wars gaming is seeing some sort of backlash since Disney bought Lucasfilm or are you saying that I am just looking in the wrong places? I’m not necessarily looking for Star Wars RPG communities, I know about most of them. I’m just wondering why Star...

Why Doesn't Star Wars Hold More Mind Share in the RPG Market?

I think these are only hurdles because people are making them hurdles. You can easily make an adventures that are pointed at a specific era and then have a sidebar with suggestions on adjusting them to different eras. Much like WotC does with their adventures. Want to use this in Eberron? How...

Why Doesn't Star Wars Hold More Mind Share in the RPG Market?

You definitely correct, but I guess the more pointed question would be why any one Star Wars RPG, during the time it was being published, did not have more mind share than they did/do? Certainly, I know of many great Star Wars RPG Communties via Reddit, Facebook Groups, and other forums.

Why Doesn't Star Wars Hold More Mind Share in the RPG Market?

That's a fair point. I can certainly see the appeal of how free form D&D can be. I'm sure that contributes, to a degree, but RPG besides D&D (not counting Pathfinder) held a level of mind share in the RPG community that doesn't seem to exist anymore and those games didn't need the internet to...

Why Doesn't Star Wars Hold More Mind Share in the RPG Market?

I suppose a way to phrase the question is: Why doesn't Star Wars capture more mind share in the RPG community?
