How Long Do You Wait Before You Houserule a New TTRPG?

I tend to wait until the end of a campaign. I think I only really have the full view of the game rules and the how and why of their design once I have seen them in action accross a decent amount of playtime. The only exception is if it's a rule that the group REALLY feels is hampering our...

Daggerheart Review: The Duality of Robust Combat Mechanics and Freeform Narrative

Right? I was already a little bummed that my budget won't allow me to buy into the OSRIC crowdfunder, but I might sell some odds and ends to get my hands on Daggerheart. I haven't been so interested by a game in a long time!

D&D General When We Were Wizards: Review of the Completed Podcast!

Sorry! Wong name in my head. Lorraine Williams is who I mean! :D Kathleen Kennedy certainly has been vilified to an unfortunate degree and I think that's where my brain made the connection erroneously.

D&D General When We Were Wizards: Review of the Completed Podcast!

I completely agree! Up to this point, it doesn't appear that Kathleen Lorraine was as much of a monster as people made her out to be. The Blumes made some questionable decisions, but then again so did Gary. What this really makes me want is a second series of these, but for the post-Gary TSR...

D&D General When We Were Wizards: Review of the Completed Podcast!

Just finished all the episodes and the last episode had an interesting bit of information. I had absolutely no idea that Kathleen Kennedy Lorraine Williams and TSR offered to settle with Gary for $3,000/share AND ownership of the trademarks for D&D and AD&D! Wow! I have to say that Gary really...

What does it take for an RPG to die?

It’s the front man of the RPG book. I’m not saying it’s going to be the reason people buy a book, but it certainly entices someone to take a look at something they might not have otherwise. Rolemaster is already fighting against the current, being a (relatively) rules intensive game compared...

What does it take for an RPG to die?

You and I simply disagree on what makes cover art first-rate. No big deal, art is subjective.

What does it take for an RPG to die?

The art for RMU. . . leaves a lot to be desired. ICE's outright refusal to crowdfun for better art doesn't help matters. Unfortunately, a lot of people need to be sold by the art of a product first before even looking at it further and the RMU art does itself no favors in that regard. It looks...

Worlds Largest Dungeon Holds 'Secret Doors' Contest

I'm not the target audience of something like this. During 3E our group collectively bought World's Largest City which was pretty cool, but we've never been interested in a megadungeon like this. I was semi-interested in the competition, but not on those terms. Oh well.

What time would you play an evening online 3 hour game session mid to long term?

I always find anything earlier than 7PM to be too early. People have jobs, commutes, kids, and other errands to run after work. This is assuming the group primarily works 9-5 (or something like that).

OSR OSRIC 3 Crowdfund has Launched!

Oh really? Nice! Thanks for letting me know!

OSR OSRIC 3 Crowdfund has Launched!

Man, this came at the wrong time for me. I'm $10 from going negative month-to-month until the end of this year. Bummer. I wish this major success!

D&D General When We Were Wizards: Review of the Completed Podcast!

I've been working my way through these, thanks for bringing them to my attention Snarf! I think the thing that has stood out the most to me, compared to other accounts of TSR's history that I've read, is how much Gary was actually aware of in terms of the mismanagement and strategic corporate...

Goodman Games Offers Assurances About Judges Guild Royalties

If so, that's great! Unfortunately, there is a lot of talk very similar to that quote that is said by apologists regarding different horrible views, almost verbatim. So, it doesn't fill me with much confidence regardless so I'd rather stay away and keep my conscience clean on the issue.

Goodman Games Offers Assurances About Judges Guild Royalties

As long as Goodman Games holds the stance of "building bridges" and wants to "encourage conversation" with antisemetic and islamaphobic people then I will no longer patronize them. I DO applaud Goodman Games for attempting to refund previous Kickstarter backers, but that doesn't suddenly make...

Goodman Games Revives Relationship With Anti-Semitic Publisher For New City State Kickstarter [UPDATED]

As a Muslim, everything this man is spouting is eggregious. I especially find the part I bolded to be horrible and Islamaphobic. Goodman Games can spin this however they want, but I will no longer be buying their products because they want to "open up a dialogue" with people that believe the...

Worlds of Design: Breaking the Fantasy Mold

Not to de-rail the thread, but my wife is Moroccan and I would love to hear more about your Jewel of the Desert game.

Do Tariffs Apply To RPG Books? Maybe, Maybe Not!

Yes, that's my understanding as well. I just linked it because it was pertinent to the thread.

Do Tariffs Apply To RPG Books? Maybe, Maybe Not!

I just saw this: Yes, a board game company is suing the president Looks like a lot of board game publishers will be challenging the tariffs in court.

    D&D 5E (2014) Official WotC 5e pdfs

If I remember correctly, they offered a few adventures for a limited time through the DMs Guild. I would have to go back in my library and see if I ever downloaded them.
