Why is the Vancian system still so popular?

Well, I don't really think they're inferior. I was just goofing. You do make a good point, though (even if this side convo isn't exactly on topic). I probably could do more to be a positive influence.

Why is the Vancian system still so popular?

I'm probably playing with inferior DMs.

Why is the Vancian system still so popular?

Not a single 4e DM I know has done that.

Realism vs. Believability and the Design of HPs, Powers and Other Things

They weren't my claims, but they apply to my experiences. Also, when comparing the subject to the movies, I differentiate between a fun, plot-moving scene (encounter/combat) and a dramatically tense scene. I want that in my games, not constant, dramatically intense scenes. I hope I've made sense.

    Stone Trolls in D&D

I believe the Fensir, or Ysgardian Troll (from Planescape), turns to stone in daylight.

"Focus on shorter games"? I'm excited

I only really want faster combat. As long as my group decides to play 5e, I'll play, too, but I'd rather not come home after every session with even more resolve to never actually purchase any of the game materials. There was a time that I liked D&D, but now it is just that game that I play...

Color me interested. I <3 Savage Worlds!

    Handling Cheating

My reaction to cheating depends entirely on who it is. Those who are just fellow gamers, but not really friends, I prefer to jettison, as I'm not invested in the person. For friends, however, I like to talk to the person, understand why and then work out a solution.

Congratulations, P-Kitty! I love your imagination...and your accents...but mostly your imagination. I preferred Deuce's story, but you are right, picture use seemed to be the component that pushed you through. Well done. :)

While I think that I'm as goofy in person as I am online, certain aspects of my personality really don't come through as well for me in the written form. I think that this attempt at trash-talking illustrates one example of such an aspect.

I've surveyed the field and I'm happy to report that your figuring skills are superb. Yes, I know, trash talking when I'm no longer a member of the field is so much less effective. :(

My feedback usually sucks, because it's a weak-point of mine. I will say that, until the end, I found your story to be one of the most entertaining and, overall, I enjoyed it more than PirateCat's. I did not like the "winged girl" picture usage, and I didn't like the "how magic works" discussion...

    Appz. Yo.

I'm still a bit fuzzy on this part. How exactly do they "make us all go digital"? I expect a bit of hyperbole is involved with your assertation, but I want to make sure, rather than assume. EDIT: My assumption is that "us" = players of the newest version of D&D and only the newest version of...

    Appz. Yo.

I smell a prophecy. I would like to provide a rebuttal, but your "answers" to The Jester, in addition to my preference for non-D&D systems tells me that I will not gain anything from such an attempt. I will say that I like paper and dice. Software will not replace my preferred medium.

Congratulations phoamslinger! Well done. I will definitely be looking to participate in these regularly, so long as we start to do them regularly, again. And I look forward to continuing to read everyone's stories. Now, it's off to bed...and perhaps writing some dream-stories. :)

    John Carter

I enjoyed the movie. Not great, but good. Also, I'm not the fan of the material that some folk are, as I've only read A Princess of Mars (and even then, only once, years ago). I will say that the decision to leave out Woola would have been akin to leaving out the likes of Chewie, Merry &...

I appreciate critical. :) I hadn't written in a few years and I fell into bad habits. After reading your critique, I realized this. Of course, I didn't get back into CDM as much to win, as to force myself to write. If I don't make it past Round 1, I will at least have put my foot back in the...

Word count = 1050 The Heart of a Kiwi The red teapot shook slightly in the woman's trembling hand, as she refilled the man's cup. Of course, the shaking was understandable, considering the circumstance in which she found herself. Heck, any right-minded person would be hard-pressed to keep...
