Hillside Games, Asheville: The Unfriendly Local Game Store

What an awesome random find as a result of this series of events. I'm going to have to share it with my wife, who loves painted minis and such (she does the paint-and-take at GenCon almost every year).

    Ashamed of being a Gamer?

Yeah, it's one thing to not be ashamed about your hobby. It's completely another to champion it in a (to me) fairly meaningless battle. My coworkers that are close to me know my hobbies. No biggie. I don't randomly bring it up in meetings, however, so not every coworker knows. I'm also...

Boston Game Day on 3/10/12: registration for games is open!

It's okay, I'm preparing for my pseudo-western-themed game by creating a sword and sorcery setting for my uses. Hmmm...procrastination, your power is great! :)

    Ashamed of being a Gamer?

I tried to hide my gaming from my wife, but it proved impossible when she kept asking me if her roll hit.

Forgotten Realms Characters From The Real World

I don't have a cite or an example, nor can I vouch for whether or not it's canon, but I do vividly remember an old westerner/trapper type character from the old AD&D 2nd edition cards. It had the Forgotten Realms banner on the card.

    Ashamed of being a Gamer?

You know what they say, "If you haven't met one, you ..." ...wait, I'm thinking of a poker idiom. Carry on.

Where Can I Find Free Art For Inclusion In My RPG?

I believe that the OP's first sentence confirms that.

    Ashamed of being a Gamer?

Does this mean you don't love me anymore?

    Ashamed of being a Gamer?

I think most people in my life know I'm a gamer and they all wish they were me (EDIT: this means that I'm not ashamed). Note to Water Bob - don't engage the side conversation and the thread will right itself. The other posters don't know your friends and you don't need to champion their cause...

    Your best combat descriptions

I agree. If someone posts some cool examples that demonstrate techniques for making combat more descriptive/colorful, while not bogging it down in cringe-worthy prose, I might find some use for it. I'm definitely interested in examples where the DM doesn't take narrative control of a player's...

    Your best combat descriptions

Some questions popped into my head while reading this thread: Why do DMs feel the need to narrate the results of the PCs attacks? Do any players have some good combat descriptions? Does anyone have good combat descriptions that aren't over-the-top killing blows? Not that I don't find the...

Boston Game Day on 3/10/12: registration for games is open!

I count 7 open spots in the morning and 6 in the afternoon (Leverage has 5 spots). It's okay, though, numbers are devious.

I'm fine with both. If any players object, we'll have a showdown in front of Nerfwright's place and the survivor can play the character he/she wants.

Savage Worlds - do you tweak how skills work?

Another thought that I had. There is absolutely nothing preventing you from giving a high-Agility character a little training in Shooting/Throwing/etc. at character creation and describe it as reflecting the character's attribute rather than real training (maybe to a d4 or d6 if you have the...

Savage Worlds - do you tweak how skills work?

I'm with you on SW, as it is my favorite system. I just wanted to make sure that the OP does not get the wrong impression.

Savage Worlds - do you tweak how skills work?

I don't like to focus on Acing, though, as that doesn't address the OP's issue. Acing dice helps all folk, not just untrained high-attribute folk. Also, thinking even more on it, the increased rate of training isn't truly accurate (except at character creation). A character can't become better...

Savage Worlds - do you tweak how skills work?

Well stated. I was going to re-reply, after taking the time to give it some more thought, but you covered the points I was going to make fairly closely to how I was going to make them.
