    Music for my game

Music From “The Elder” by KISS. It’s a concept album that was going to have a movie tie-in. Basically the story is about a boy who becomes a man through a big adventure (inspired by Joseph Cambell's Hero of a Thousand Faces).

Sorcerer - Int Bonus to Spells Known?

I see nothing wrong with it and in fact have done so in a previous campaign. Keep in mind that the sorcerer will still pump CHA since that is the key spellcasting stat so I don't see any balancing issues.

    Drinking and gaming?

No alchohol or narcotics of any kind. I've had too many bad experiences with players getting stupid drunk during games. It becomes an absolute total waste of my time when that happens. If I want to get drunk with my friends, then that's what I do. When I come to play or DM, I'm there to...

Zombie Plagues in your Campaign Setting

I ran an AD&D 2nd Ed. campaign using the historical campaign rules in 1994–1997. Basically instead of the Black Death in the mid-1300s there was the Black Undeath. A lot of fun was had by all.

DnD High Fashion - What does your PC Wear?

14th Century European, circa 1291–1453. Lately the Church has been ranting about a new scandalous fashion, that being the raising of the hemline. Men's hemline that is. Revealing the contours of the buttocks and the invention of the codpiece is causing all sorts of commotion. Even in the...

What is the preferrable option after a PC death?

I give everyone the Leadership Feat for free. When their character dies, the cohort becomes the PC and looks for a new cohort.

Would you be satisifed with d20 as your only RPG? [Ties into RyanD's blog entry.]

Yes. D20 can be extended in any number of ways to a wide variety of genres. As Ryan pointed out, d20 is a toolset, not a straight jacket nor does d20=D&D. D&D is simply one application of the d20 core rules. D&D = d20 d20 =! D&D

Whould you buy a system-free setting?

One upon a time I bought settings that I thought were cool irrespective of the game system. These days I don't have time to stat up NPCs, monsters, and treasure. For better or worse if it's not OGL/d20 then it's not for me.

    A sucker born every minute...

I like it. You might want to adjust it so that for every 5 ranks rather than the first 5 ranks. This might encourage characters to put more points into Bluff & SM.

DM's: How many PC's do you kill per campaign?

QFT I couldn't vote because in my experience it depends entirely upon the skill of the player. I've had some players go through more than 10 characters while others have played their original character up to the end of the campaign. I make every effort to reward cleverness and punish...

Ever want to pull a "Dawn of the Dead?"

I ran a campaign based on the historical Black Plague except that the plague created cannibalistic zombies instead! It was a lot of fun to watch the fighters pile the corpses up so high that it granted cover. Now I had already banned Turn Undead as a clerical ability since all the deities were...

What Motivates You To Join A Campaign?

A cohesive theme with internal logical consistency. A well thought out world that lives and breathes on it's own. Even if it's a short lived campaign it should ooze flavour. Something fleshed out well enough that I can easily develop an intuitive feel for how people behave, pros & cons of...

Would You Play In This Campaign?

After 29 years of D&D I've had enough of "generic" worlds where every tavern looks like the STAR WARS cantina and the varied & sundry assortment of adventurers makes the game feel like a superhero game. :p No thank you.

DM's: How many PC's getting raise-dead'/resurrections in your campaigns?

In the Spring of 1978 while playing White Box OD&D (PHB arrived at GenCon '78) was the first and last time my group and I allowed Raise Dead. Not only did death 'lose it's sting' but the suspension of disbelief was broken for us. It just didn't fit our collective phantasy. Looking back I...

    Lethal Combat, Take 2

Abe, I agree with some of your intentions. Here is what I do: Melee Weapon Critical Multipliers Bludgeoning weapons have a crit multiplier of ×2 Slashing weapons have a crit multiplier of ×3 Piercing weapons have a crit multiplier of ×4 Melee Weapon Critical Threat Range One-handed bludgeoning...

    The "orc baby" paladin problem

I agree that in 3e Detect Evil isn't binary. The DM should explicitly state what strength of aura requires a paladin to 'terminate with extreme prejudice.' Is it 'moderate,' 'strong,' or just 'overwhelming'? And are you suggesting that Smite Evil doesn't work on Neutral clerics who are devoted...

    The "orc baby" paladin problem

I think that whether or not a paladin gets executed is highly campaign dependent. It really depends on the religion that the paladin belongs to. For example, if the paladin belongs to the state religion then it is most certainly his duty to act as judge, jury, and if necessary executioner. If...

    The "orc baby" paladin problem

Oh and if a creatures detects as Evil, it is the paladin's god-given duty (literally) to smite them. Otherwise, what's the point? It's not Detect Evil Outsider or Smite Evil Outsider after all. If you as a DM don't like it, then house rule the paladin to your heart's content. Or ban them...
