    Who needs the cleric class?

My preference is for a non-combat cleric. If a players wishes to play a combat medic, he or she can take some levels in fighter.

How to treants feel about mistletoe?

Or consider kudzu. “The plant that ate the South.” There’s also the eucalyptus trees that took over the San Francisco Bay Area. Both plants were imports that overwhelmed the local flora. How would the treants respond to such foreign invasions?

What were the FotR's magic items?

A poster in another thread (which I can't find at the moment) posited a comment along the lines that the members of the Fellowship of the Ring carried multiple magic items. I thought it was very few, but perhaps the experts of the ENworld community could elabourate. Gandalf carried glamdring...

NEW (ish) Class; The Weapon Master

Yeah, that qualifies as both cool and weird at the same time. :p But it also seems a bit overpowered for a 7th level ability. For starters, it should be a full round attack rather than a standard action since he is attacking all opponents within reach. This also removes the half speed...

NEW (ish) Class; The Weapon Master

Instead of emphasis on doing more damage, why not doing more with the weapon itself? Improved Disarm, Greater Disarm, Epic Disarm, Improved Sunder, Greater Sunder, Epic Sunder, Improved Trip, Greater Trip, Epic Trip, Improved Initiative, et cetera? How about Display Weapon Prowess from 2nd...

    Evaluation of 3.5 Rule Changes.

Two thoughts: 1) Giving up a magical shield can be a big deal especially one with the high level mods. 2) Historically many knights in the 15th and 16th centuries fought with polearms when dismounted rather than sword & shield.

What would it take for you to be interested in a new (not reprint or rehash) setting?

In addition to they Fey, I really want to see a campaign setting based on the Medieval Player's Handbook. That is, one that is based on those magical rules. In other words, a d20 Fantasy that is faithful to Mediæval legends, sagas, ballads, etc. without shoehorning in the standard D&D tropes...

    buffing the SHIELD rules

I'll keep that in mind thanks. I wouldn't have considered a 2 for 1 in 3.0 but now in 3.5 with PA being so powerful I don't mind giving the sword & shield characters more AC.

When a warrior stands at the wrong end of a crossbow...

I agree with using a successful hit as an automatic confirmed critical. I did this throughout AD&D 1e and 2e. However a coup de grace seems a tad bit excessive. After all, it is the lower level heroes that should drop automatically while the high levels ones will incur a major wound but still...

    buffing the SHIELD rules

This is an excellent idea! I will definitely be incorporating into my homebrew, Grymwurld.™

    Revised Samurai Core Class

Not teleportation, but the appearance of being in one place when not there. That is the paradox of neither being there nor not being there. Another way to look at it is as a mastery of the illusion that we unenlightened beings call reality. This can be modeled with some kind of supernatural...

    Revised Samurai Core Class

I'm not convinced that we need a samurai core class in the first place but I do think that a paragon samurai is significantly different from a paladin. In other words, what does a Japanese paladin look like? The legendary sword-saints possessed supernatural abilities different from a paladin. No...

    Revised Samurai Core Class

Secrets of the Samurai: A Survey of the Martial Arts of Feudal Japan (Hardcover) by Oscar Ratti, Adele Westbrook. Available online for $9.99 — which is an unbelieveable freaking bargain! SotS is the definitive book on Mediæval Japanese martial arts. I can't overstate the value of this book...

    Adding Feats to AD&D

I assume you mean 1st edition? Because 2nd edition: Combat & Tactics has feats but called them "special talents." If you do mean 1st edition, I suggest using the above mentioned Special Talents. Just determine the prerequisites, class availability, and number of weapon proficiency slots they...

    Another Sniper: The Federation Rifleman

Consider the steel crossbow In Grymwurld™ I have the steel crossbow with the same stats, except that the critical is ×4 rather than ×3. My interpretation of the sniper is a little different. I have them take weapon focus, weapon specialisation, greater weapon focus, greater weapon...

I think there have been some siege weapons that could fire multiple crossbow bolts simulataneously.

    Drow love

Dude! Viconia DeVir is totally hot! And that voice…! Now that’s a drow I would date in a heartbeat. Besides, if you play your cards right, you could get her to change alignment.

    Why Enworld?

Why did I come back? For myself, the more apt question would be ‘Why did I come back to Enworld’? I had joined ENworld as The Grymlorde(R) back when Eric was running the place. At that time the only real alternative was the newsgroup rec.frp.dnd (or something). The signal to noise ratio at...
