    Demihumans, magic and worldbuilding?

I definitely see D&D Elves as being akin to the First Nations, especially the woodland nations, e.g. Cree, Mohawk, Huron, et cetera. And I agree that the Dwarves probably provisioned them with metal goods who in turn provided the Dwarves with furs. But I also think that Elves would create...

    Demihumans, magic and worldbuilding?

Dwarves are underestimated IMHO While not a big fan of Dwarves, I've always thought that most campaigns and game worlds do not take Dwarves' stone and metallurgical skills into full consideration. I maintain that Dwarves would maintain monopolies on mines and metallurgy. While they would...

    Campaigns with 2-3 playes only

Start the PCs off at 2nd level and give them both the Leadership feat for free. Personally I find 3 players + DM to be optimal as it allows for a more intimate game with lots of roleplaying.

    D&D is so METAL

KISS' Music from The Elder is about as D&D an album as you can get…. For AD&D, I created a secret society called The Order of the Rose which bears some similarity to the Harpers of FR but predates publication of FR. I also created a race of Elven ancestors called “The Elder” who may or may...

    Creating a Greek Mythology campaign

Pocket Conan RPG by Mongoose was given away for free last week. All "races" are Human from different regions but have ability score modifiers, feats, etc. like D&D races. You could make your own but OGL Ancients sounds pretty appropriate.

    Power and Responsibility

Thinking things through is the key. I find it more enjoyable to think through implications of my campaign than to try and design high level encounters.

    Power and Responsibility

I actually had the opposite experience. In 1983 I got burned out on trying to provide greater and greater challenges through plane-hopping. When I started DMing again in 1987 I took the decision to remove planar adventuring. PCs would have to either retire from adventuring and play politics...

    Evolutionary Fantasy

Given the number of sentient races in D&D, I suggest allowing only one kingdom or culture per race. That is, there is the Human Kingdom, Elven Kingdom, Dwarven Kingdom, Halfling Kingdom, Gnome Kingdom, Orc Kingdom, Goblin Kingdom, Hobgoblin Kingdom, Kobold Kingdom, Gnoll Kingdom, Bugbear...

    Troll Porn

Thank you Hellraiser IV I think the ickiest loot in my experience was when my players found a magical drum which consisted of the face of an NPC friend stretched across the frame. Admittedly I stole the idea from a deleted scene in Hellraiser IV. Quite effective, nonetheless.

    D&D is so METAL

 Yes, I use a blackletter font (Old English Text MT) for the Grymwurld™ logo and headers. And I used to use an umlaut, i.e. Grýmwürld but when a German-speaking friend of my pronounced it, I decided to drop the umlaut. Although if I ever publish for profit, I may bring back the umlaut-u...

    D&D is so METAL

Grymwurld: The Metal Years™ Seriously, though I've been running Heavy Metal themed D&D games for a very long time. Heck, my game world is called Grymwurld™ and even ran a campaign called Grymwurld: The Metal Years,™ not to mention Grymwurld: Merchants of Death™ and Grymwurld: A Dark Mirror.™...

D&D 3.x what variant rules do you use in your 3.5 game?

Spontaneous spellcasters incur non-lethal damage equal to spell level + caster level each time they cast a spell. They may cast as many spells as they wish provided they have the hit points. New Race: Quarterælfr treat as d20 Halfelves. New Race: Halfælfr treat as d20 Elves New Race: Ælfr...

    PRC: The Master Swordsman/Hero

What exactly is the concept you're aiming for here? Are you trying to build a better kensei? Or maybe a generic master swordsman that can fit into any culture (European, African, Middle Eastern, Central Asian, East Asian, South Asian, etc.)? Is better handled by the existing samurai, kensei...

The Hoplite (think Spartan, Greek, Roman)

And if you gave them Monkey Grip, would they be able to throw longspears as javelins? I once dated a girl from Rajasthan who claimed that ancient Rajathani warriors threw javelins of 3 meters in length. Now I'm tempted to craft a class that specialises in javelins, spears, and wears...

    30th-level PC versus kingdom--who wins?

 But as a unique being, the wizard isn't under a compulsion to enter the gate right? Even so, I wonder how often a 21st+ level party has to deal with gates popping open calling various members of their group? Ah the price of fame and fortune. :)

The Hoplite (think Spartan, Greek, Roman)

I think Meeki has a better handle on whether this class is balanced or not than myself. I defer to him in this particular matter. However, I would never allow a character to wield a polearm one-handed nor allow any feats or class abilities that do the same. Personally that stretches Medieval...

The Hoplite (think Spartan, Greek, Roman)

Perhaps you meant halberd, or voulge, or barchice? Ranseurs, spetums, partisans, and tridents are handled just about the same as spears -- two-handed thrusting usually. Whereas polearms (halberds, voulges, barchies, glaives, guisarmes, etc.) are used primarly as two-handed swinging weapons...
