    OD&D A request for advice

That is a good question. I have both on PDF, but I would like a hard copy of rules, because it is easier to read. If the clone is faithful to the original rules, there may be an advantage from clearer presentation and such. I am thinking of the Old School Essentials books.

    OD&D A request for advice

I am wanting to get a print on demand version of the Basic Rules, and am looking at either the Rules Cyclopedia or the Dark Dungeons retroclone. What are the pros and cons for each book?

Have you considered Kobold Hall? https://www.enworld.org/threads/anyone-playing-4e-at-the-moment.677637/page-4 There is also the Twisting Halls, from the Essentials Red Box.

    D&D Movie/TV D&D Movie - Wild Speculation and Poll

The composer for the score should be the guy who did the music for Icewond Dale. Maybe include motifs from the cartoon's theme song. Or, possibly, the pinball machine music: In any case, it would be disappointing if this wasnt worked into the movie at some point:

    D&D Movie/TV D&D Movie - Wild Speculation and Poll

My opinion is that the story should be about a group of people who are down on their luck, so they try to investigate a nearby castle ruin that is rumored to have a lot of treasure hidden within. In the course of their explorations, they stumble across a dragon that is planning to destroy the...

WotC James Wyatt is on the Dungeons & Dragons Team Again

The game he did with the Robot Chicken guys has an accomoanying DM commentary set of videos, where he talks about the game. He describes the "evil D&D pinata that he had planned for them, but that they didnt get to experience.

WotC James Wyatt is on the Dungeons & Dragons Team Again

What is funny is that Wyatt advises the players that some option was available to them (charging attack, or something like that) that Chris forgot to mention. They then said "the other DM [Chris Perkins] was bush league". Ha! It's like, I don't know, rain, on your wedding day, or good advice...

Ah.... Is the "e" silent, then, at the end of "debate"?

WotC James Wyatt is on the Dungeons & Dragons Team Again

The most notable thing about James Wyatt that I remember is that he was the only Acquisitions, Inc. DM besides Chris Perkins (season 1), until Chris retired from the position. As for tieflings, is it pronounced "tieflings", or "tieflings"? Also, the only playable races should be humans...

D&D General What Have You Liked Most About Each Edition (+)

B/X and BECMI: I like "race as class". Makes things simple for playing the game. Instead of fiddling with multiclassing, play an elf. A dwarf can find structural traps like a thief, and the dwarf and halfling saving throws means those characters should be the ones opening the possibly trapped...

D&D Movie/TV D&D Movie should follow the Deadpool model

My opinion is that the story should be set in Castle Greyhawk, and should be focused on a party of adventurers searching the ruins for treasure. There should be one, or maybe two dragons. Care should be taken to differentiate this from "The Hobbit". For example, the story might involve a group...

    D&D 5E (2024) Revised 6E prediction thread

That's almost exactly what Colville observed. He said when it first came out, they were excited by the options, but as time passed, system mastery became a real thing--knowing which feats were worthy and which worthless.

    D&D 5E (2024) Revised 6E prediction thread

I recommend watching Matt Colville's videos on "Making a Fighter in Every Edition of D&D". I think the series has a different name, now; something like, "The History of D&D One Fighter at a Time". His latest offering is Third Edition, and he spends a lot of time discussing how Fighters compare...

OSR A Pathfinder Group Tries Old-School Essentials

Re: Ability Scores The Mentzer Basic set DM Book says that the DM can allow a player to switch scores in order to play a preferred class. If, for example, the ability scores are better for a thief (high DEX), but the player wants to play a cleric, then the DM can allow the player to exchange...

    D&D 5E (2024) Revised 6E prediction thread

I also like the Dungeonworld method of world-creation: the DM designs the first town, but then the DM and players collaborate to create the world as they play. Also, here is Matt Colville creating a dungeon: It sort of gives an idea of what I think should be included in the DM guide.

    D&D 5E (2024) Revised 6E prediction thread

This may be in the 5e DM guide already, but I think that having a concrete, practical method for creating an adventure--specifically, a dungeon--should be included in the next iteration, like what is in the Moldvay/Mentzer Basic rules. Creating a dungeon in Basic DnD has a very similar feel to...

D&D 4E Anyone playing 4e at the moment?

If you have the inclination, I think reading an account of your game--or even watching a video of it, if possible--would be interesting and instructive.

D&D 4E Anyone playing 4e at the moment?

Remember that both kobolds and dragons have darkvision; there is no need for them to have light in any part of the dungeon. The only light the adventurers have is what they bring. In fights, the first priority of the kobolds is to douse the lights--throw water on torches, knock sunrods from the...
