Speculation about "the feelz" of D&D 4th Edition

I mean, you don't "create a fighter", you just pick a race, then pick powers from whatever class you want. Is that doable?

Speculation about "the feelz" of D&D 4th Edition

What would happen if one allowed unlimited multiclassing: the player can pick the requisite number of AEDU powers from any class?

    Nentir Vale/World of Nerath Information/Links?

It is Erathis' symbol that both clerics are wearing. Just make it the same dragon. The reason that it doesn't attack the characters in the Twisting Halls (the Red Box adventure) is the sound thrashing it got from them in the Kobold Hall. In the Kobold Hall, it throws snow in the characters'...

    Nentir Vale/World of Nerath Information/Links?

You could do the Red Box Starter Set adventure. It was set up to be on the road to the east of Fallcrest, but one could just transpose the location, and have the skull that the boss wizard stole actually be from the Keep; Traevus the dwarf had stolen it from Karavel and was trying to get it as...

Speculation about "the feelz" of D&D 4th Edition

Is that what FourthCore was? I only heard about it after they closed the website. I thought it was just upping the difficulty of the encounters (combat and non-combat).

Speculation about "the feelz" of D&D 4th Edition

Does Fourthcore do any of that?

Speculation about "the feelz" of D&D 4th Edition

Perhaps a glimpse of the "man behind the curtain"? "DMing" can seem like an esoteric and specialized skill. 4e is a game where, after learning the bare basics, anyone can be a reasonably effective DM. Just a guess.

Speculation about "the feelz" of D&D 4th Edition

I endorse this sentiment, with the exception that I would run either Moldvay B/X or BECMI. Edit: Two of my sons have been playing B/X by themselves for some time, now. One is the DM and also runs a character. A marvelous system that is easy to understand and play.

    D&D 4E Rewards in 4e

Sure. Consider it a reward of 4e.

Speculation about "the feelz" of D&D 4th Edition

Meh. They act like skills but aren't skills. There's potentially any number of them. Someone pops up with a new one, there's something else you can't do. Not horrible or anything, but not pretty. Nah, not even without the 'very.' Sorry. Haven't seen much striking 'elegance of design' in...

As a minor action, Silverleaf douses his cigar in the goblin shaman's massive head wound.

Speculation about "the feelz" of D&D 4th Edition

Slayers are awesome, aren't they? I tried a slayer build whose achtick was that she used her bow until the enemy for near, at which point she pulled out her big honkin' sword and started thrashing. Unfortunately, I only got to use her once, and the adventure required that a character had...

Speculation about "the feelz" of D&D 4th Edition

Armor Class is the numerical representation of the character's ability to avoid being hit. In other editions, the character's DEX modifier is added to AC; in 4e, the "level modifier" (1/2 level) is added, as,well, as a representation of the character's growing experience with hit avoidance. I...

Speculation about "the feelz" of D&D 4th Edition

Well, 4e delineated the roles, so that different classes had different responsibilities during combat--and did not step on each other's toes. It wouldn't matter (too much) if a wizard were more powerful than the fighter in his party, because a wizard is not a defender. His job isn't to stand in...

Speculation about "the feelz" of D&D 4th Edition

If they had declared continued support for previous, editions it might have gone a long way toward mitigating the backlash. They wouldn't have even had to call it "D&D Tactics", or whatever; just say: "Here are D&D rules that emphasize heroic-style play."

Speculation about "the feelz" of D&D 4th Edition

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoELQ7px9ws This is a video of Matt Colville discussing how to "steal" elements of 4e to use in one's 5e game (mostly relating to combat, natch). In the latter half of the video, he discusses the history of 4e and his thoughts on the rules. Some of what he says...
