    D&D 5E (2024) Smite Changes

It's interesting to me that most people are parsing this new smite language as not allowing for it to be doubled by crits. For me, the language that made the difference was the Critical Hit entry in the first UA, that clarified it only applied to weapon damage. That glossary entry has not been...

D&D General Does anyone else title their D&D sessions?

I record my sessions, and then listen back for taking my own notes and writing recaps, so I usually end up pulling a salient player quote that is iconic to what happened. They can admittedly be pretty vague without context though. Some examples: Session 12 - “This questline sucks, we got...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dark Sun, problematic content, and 5E…

I think that would do many posters on this thread a disservice, as they've specifically called out a separation between their feelings of WotC and other creators / publishers when it comes to the strict binary question presented.

The poll doesn't limit specificity to WotC though.

What do you think of the post-Endgame Marvel movies? [[the mega poll!]]

As soon as I watched Endgame, all of my interest in trying to keep up with all of these movies, let alone any tv shows, disappeared. Spider-man has been the only exception so far, and both of those have largely lived up to my expectations, and been entertaining. I think the only upcoming thing I...

D&D 5E (2024) Am I crazy, or did they just turn Stealth into full Ninja mode?

As much as I hate to say it, this is exactly why I understand them giving a hardcoded DC, because it's the only way to put sneaking in the books in a way that would be remotely consistently used. And exactly to your point, if that's what they change to, I probably won't use it.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Shows Us The New Druid & Paladin

Forgive me if you're referring to something else, but this playtest does state: and in addition, the Devotion paladin's specific Aura of Devotion is called out as a sub-effect of the Protection aura.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Shows Us The New Druid & Paladin

Right, all I meant to communicate is that those crit changes back then made me think they were going to address and hopefully eliminate smite-crit-fishing, but there was no knowing if that was their intention until this specific playtest.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Shows Us The New Druid & Paladin

I'm honestly thinking about keeping the nat 1 version as a home rule.

On that specific note, I actively dislike the terminology change from inspiration to heroic advantage.

I bet you five copper pieces, assuming this boon survives the play test, it's roll spell level and not roll over. It's a bit of silly nonsense, but it's fun, dice rolling silly nonsense.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Shows Us The New Druid & Paladin

Oh, see, I read it differently. It says "If the number you roll equals the slot’s level," so I took that to meant if you cast a 1st level spell, and roll a 2, you don't get it back. Just a flat 25% random chance for those levels.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dark Sun, problematic content, and 5E…

Acceptable for it to exist, somewhere, period? Sure. A good idea for WotC, as a big tent name in the field, to put their brand behind? Not likely. Especially if you want to avoid the American History X issue. Something I'm likely to buy, or be interested in? Almost certainly not, unless it...

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Shows Us The New Druid & Paladin

Yep, I think ultimately this change pushes me away from being interested in playing a Wildshaping druid, especially in the context of also losing the armor/HP benefits. Feels like there needs to be a little more scaling benefit, at least for a Moon Druid.

Love the buff to the other Smite spells, hate that this packet doesn't come with the crit change that only modifies weapon damage.

D&D 5E (2014) A monster stat block should always fit on one side of one page maximum (a poll)

Vampire in the MM takes up exactly one page with no extra fluff/flavor/tactics/lair stuff. Beholder is pretty close to that.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Shows Us The New Druid & Paladin

Long Rests now explicitly grant the Unconscious condition, and instead of simply listing combat, it is now broken by rolling initiative or taking damage.
