    Illusion Power Inconsistencies

I'm not necessarily saying it's an error. I just hope it is, because I like consistency.

    Illusion Power Inconsistencies

Well, sure, sounds like a fair trade... if it weren't for the fact that one of these is on a miss, while the other is for a successful hit. I don't think that's supposed to be a fair trade.

    Illusion Power Inconsistencies

I find that a pretty compelling argument until I remember that I play with not only some rules-lawyers, but also some actual lawyers. The RAW are a kind of a pact. Every time an exception comes up, it's like making an agreement between all folks at the table that a change should be made. The DM...

    Illusion Power Inconsistencies

Well, you also can't attack a flaming sphere or effect it in any way. Both are spells that summon an invincible object that has an effect in combat. One can be negated by a Dispel Magic and the other cannot. Actually, it does. If the effect lasts until the end of your next turn, they are prone...

    Illusion Power Inconsistencies

I'm not especially happy with these new illusion powers from Dragon. 1. Why are there powers for which a hit and a miss cause the power to have differing durations? (i.e. Phantom Chasm causing a target to be immobilized until the end of its next turn if you hit, but until the end of your next...

1st level 'lock - Choice for Daily

If it was the sort of ability that dealt damage to creatures who moved into an adjacent square or started their turn there, I'd call it a lot more useful. Unfortunately, as written, your turn is always going to come and go between the time a monster moves into an adjacent square and the time it...

    Wizard question?

ve4grm has it. They have a lower chance to hit, but against weaker defenses than AC. Of course, having a magical Orb, Wand or Staff confers a bonus to hit and damage just like having magic sword, so the lack of proficiency bonuses becomes less and less daunting as time moves on.

    First Strike and Sneak Attack

That's not quite right. First Strike grants CA against targets who "have not yet acted" in the encounter. (See page 117.) It only matters in the first round. Regardless of how sneaky the attack may be, it only applies to that first round, and only once per round as usual. Edit: I have, as...

1st level 'lock - Choice for Daily

I have to say that what I worry most about as a warlock is other artillery types making attacks from range. If you have a standard size party, there's probably at least two defender/leader types in between you and the melee monsters. Armor of Agathys is great if you intend to enter into melee...

    Back to the Wall

We could start up some kind of Dungeons and Dragons monastery somewhere. Churn out rules scholars and label future splatbooks of our choosing as heresy or canon.

    Knocking Godzilla Prone

The thing about SotC is that you have to climb all over a monster and deliver specific attacks to specific locations before you can hurt it. It plays out more like Legolas taking out an Oliphant by himself in Return of the King than it does pushing a Tarrasque over with your shield. Precision...

    Knocking Godzilla Prone

This. I'm honestly considering the w/in one size category restriction, which IIRC is what 3e trip rules used as well. In the case of an effect that targets will, I might be more willing to interpret broadly.

    Knocking Godzilla Prone

No, in fact, I couldn't. I heartily approve of that change. And while I don't necessarily approve of knocking jellies prone, I think that the change in philosophy provoked both of those changes. Hence, undead have constitution scores and warforged can be put to sleep.

    Combat Challenge / Superiority

True, but the reason I mentioned it is that a fighter could theoretically get two free attacks against an enemy; once through CC and once with an OA. If the monster were to, say, make a ranged attack, then shift, both would grant the fighter a free strike.

    Combat Challenge / Superiority

Funny you mention Viper's Strike... that's the one that made me notice the difference in wording on the CC/CS. The multiple marking, of course, came up as soon as we built a dragonborn fighter. That breath weapon is great for controlling the actions of a number of monsters. Luckily, I don't...

    Knocking Godzilla Prone

From Customer Service: It came up in a game I was running that a wizard used "Icy Terrain" in an area that included a flying Clay Servant. According to customer service, it seems like I should have applied the penalties for being prone to the flying creature, even though the flavor text...

    Combat Challenge / Superiority

Looks like I'd been misinterpreting some of the fighter's opportunity attack related abilities while playing with the quickstart rules and KotS pregens. Combat Challenge lets you attack a marked enemy if it "shifts or makes an attack that does not include you" "as an immediate interrupt."...

    D&D 4E 4e PHB Chapter by Chapter

Actually, to be fair, I'm glad someone pointed out that you make arguments based on how "gay" things are before I bothered to read it. Seriously, you can't expect anyone to take your opinions seriously if their going to be couched in terms of prejudice.

    Polearm Gamble - Rules Clarification

I don't think it will function against teleportation, and not because of the specificity or generality of the rules. It's because an OA is an interrupt, and the attack cannot occur before the teleport, because the target is not in a valid location. This, I will admit, is interpretation on my...

    Why Grab Does Not Work

As written, btw, if the grabbed individual or any other creature can use a power that slides, pulls or pushes the grabbing creature away from the individual they've grabbed, the grab is ended. In the last combat I ran, we learned that the fighter can be grabbed, sure, but he's just going to...
