Goodman Games Revives Relationship With Anti-Semitic Publisher For New City State Kickstarter [UPDATED]

Jew and longtime Judges Guild collector here. Having bought all my stuff second-hand, I've never given a cent to Bledsaw II & III, nor will I. As far as I'm aware, Bledsaw II didn't have anything to do with the original Judges Guild stuff. The last player I had with an "edgy" sense of humor got...

D&D 5E (2024) OAR 10 City State of the Invincible Overlord

That's kinda my sentiment. I have an original CSIO already, and it would not be that hard at all to use with DCC RPG. So a glory hole mine is a mine in "which the main shaft is sunk by blasting; the muck is then dumped in the central glory hole, previously constructed by a raise borer." Not...

D&D 5E (2014) If you could run or play in any D&D 5e campaign right now, which would it be?

Out of the Abyss. The first time, I had a bunch of very murderhobo-y players in my gaming group. I'd love to give it another shot with new players.

The Last of Us (HBO Max)

Same and same. After it, we were talking about how back in the day with The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, how we had certain friends on social media that were always spoiling those shows. To give warning would've taken away from the heavy blow of it, the heartache.

Computer games and the save checkpoint system

Unless it's a Soulsborne game, give me the ability to save whenever I want. Same. Having save points is one thing. Having save points and having to manage your ribbon inventory (on top of a generally miserly inventory system) was just too much.

    Let's Talk About Short Campaigns

Dragon of Icespire Peak was one of my favorite D&D campaigns. I think there's plenty of room for shorter, self-contained campaigns alongside massive years-long campaigns. Nothing wrong with stringing shorter campaigns into story arcs of a larger whole, either. As I've gotten burned out on "save...

What Do YOU Want The Future of TTRPGs To Look Like?

In general, I want RPGs to trend towards simplicity. D&D's new edition is an increase in complexity, and I don't want to see that spread. The only place I'd like to see AI in gaming is in organizing information. A chatbot that can tell me everything that happened in 1369 DR, or the crime rates...

Do All of Your RPG Maps Now Belong To Judges Guild? ... and more?

Huh - just goes to show how subjective maps can be. I got the most mixed up when linking the levels up with each other. Huh. In hindsight, I should have done that. Will do if I ever re-run Ravenloft.

Do All of Your RPG Maps Now Belong To Judges Guild? ... and more?

Running I6: Ravenloft was so much more difficult by having to link up those isometric maps from one floor to the next.

Do All of Your RPG Maps Now Belong To Judges Guild? ... and more?

It's a funny thing, isn't it, that they have proven themselves incapable of putting out new materials or even keeping old books in print, yet here they assert a claim beyond even that. That Goodman Games was able to bring Jennell Jaquays Judges Guild work back into print was a victory.

What are you reading in 2025?

While Three Hearts Three Lions is an important document in the creation of D&D (and an enjoyable read), I agree with @Nellisir that The Broken Sword is his best fantasy work. Operation Chaos is a fun one. Definitely some gonzo fantasy.

Do All of Your RPG Maps Now Belong To Judges Guild? ... and more?

This seems an absurd claim. It sounds like he's bitter and lashing out because he squandered the legacy of Judges Guild long ago. I don't think so. Pretty much every online retailer/gaming company washed their hands of the current version of Judges Guild after the original sets of comments came...

Do Tariffs Apply To RPG Books? Maybe, Maybe Not!

This all is so very exhausting.

What videogames are you playing in 2025?

Currently playing Citizen Sleeper. I'm a little surprised at how engaging the gameplay is, replicating the use of dice.

What does it take for an RPG to die?

And that's part of it - people can have all sorts of different nostalgia buttons. All it takes is the right wistful mood (and/or a bit of bourbon), and a trip to Noble Knight Games or eBay to indulge it.

What does it take for an RPG to die?

Go to enough conventions and you will realize that no matter how unsupported and out-of-print a game is, someone will be running that game somewhere. And even long-defunct games can come back. I wouldn't have ever figured on Dark Conspiracy getting a new edition, for example, but here we are.

How many years does it take for an RPG to become nostalgic, for you?

“It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage.” I don't think it's about necessarily how long it's been, but who I was at that time I had the experience, how much impact it made on me, that makes me nostalgic. Whether it's being a wee kid and picking up then Red Box, an ubergoth teenager sitting...

How to Delay or Avoid GM Burnout

My take on avoiding burnout is the following: Seek out your joy: Examine the moments in the game that make you smile, make it all feel effortless. Examine the tropes in whatever genre you're running a game in that resonate with you. Then focus on bringing those to the game. Seek out your...

What are you reading in 2025?

Fritz Leiber, especially the latter stuff, is a notably, ahem, horny author. The Locked Tomb series is exceptional. Great characters, cool worldbuilding, and each book challenges you in a different way. As you said, it's never a one-trick pony. Yeah, there has been extensive discussion of the...

    Best fantasy names in literature

Queue Radark Windpassing: Cut-Me-Own-Throat Dibbler! Ahh, Thieves World. The names definitely were evocative. Tempus evokes time - he is immortal, temple - he is god-ridden, and its Latin points to his own references to, and possible roots in, our antiquity. One of my favorite opening...
