    D&D 5E (2024) Horse Warrior Shenanigans

Mobility is a major benefit to having a mount. The strength of being able to strike and move out of reach of many enemies cannot be overstated.

    Dragon Reflections #85

Same. We had some wild, gonzo games and characters, and had a blast. Until we didn't, and moved away shortly after Rifts came out.

Yeah, I looked at my copy of TMNT recently and had to wonder how much we just ignored our house-ruled back in the day. Because I didn't remember the mechanics being as cumbersome as they looked to my modern eyes. Ugh, our feeling was that mega-damage made a mess of things, and we kinda tapped...

D&D General What is your most prized Dungeons and Dragons Product?

Likewise, my parents didn't care one bit about the Satanic Panic. And for that I am grateful. This thread has been fascinating, seeing what people value in their RPG collections. Frequently, it has nothing to do with monitory value and everything to do with emotional connection.

Yeah, Palladium wasn't that much messier from RAW AD&D. The problem is that Palladium's rules remained more or less fixed in amber, fixed in 80s-era design, while D&D has changed with the times.

What are you reading in 2024?

I finished reading Vinge's Psion. Enjoyable, but I kinda feel like it's more straight sci-fi than cyberpunk. Now I'm reading Bruce Sterling's Island in The Net. While I like Alien3 more than I did when i saw it in theaters, it still felt very much a betrayal of the struggles of Aliens to kill...

D&D General The purpose of deity stats in D&D.

Thinking about Supplement IV, this was 1976. I don't know that the game yet had any way to encompass beings without stats. That was, perhaps, the only way that they could conceptualize them within the world of D&D at the time.

I love this era of Dragon magazine covers where they went with some unusual choices like this. That is my recollection as well. It was kinda weird - I don't recall demon lords showing up elsewhere in Dragonlance.

    Family-friendly, Winter/Holiday-themed OSR Adventure?

DCC RPG has a bunch of holiday-themed adventures. Though some of them, depending on the ages of the kids, might be a little gnarly: https://goodman-games.com/blog/2021/12/16/all-the-holiday-modules/

Old Man Wants to Play Online

I've been rolling with the Logitech C270 HD Webcam and have no complaints. I do, however, vastly prefer to use a headset for audio. There's less chance of picking up someone's audio and you get and give a clearer signal. Which is very important, especially if you're the one GMing.

D&D General What is your most prized Dungeons and Dragons Product?

Same. For an emotional connection, it doesn't get stronger than them in my RPG collection.

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

Ayup. See also Thiel and JRRT. I was younger than that when I read them, and the problematic stuff went over my head as well.

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

That would require both a deeper understanding of the stuff he says he's a fan of, and a sense of humor. Neither of which he has shown himself to have. Xanth is so creepy. On a lark I tried re-reading some of the Xanth stuff, and it is both badly written and deeply problematic. All the moreso...

D&D General Dinosaurs in your campaigns

Yeah, they do kinda get funneled into using them, don't they? Still bothers me, though.

D&D General Dinosaurs in your campaigns

If druids and spellcasters with Polymorph are a benchmark, they are common in all ecosystems across all worlds. Drives me batty, that does. I limit dinosaurs to a few locales if I include them at all. Unless it's a world that specifically calls for them, I'd prefer if they weren't there at all...

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

When I saw the article on Facebook, I literally had to doublecheck that it wasn't an Onion or Hard Times article.

The funny thing is, there are already companies going by ONG Publishing and ONB Publishing.

    D&D 5E (2024) No Appendix N Equivalent?

Same. Rime of the Frostmaiden had a section that talked about its inspirations, and I'd love to see more of that in modules. Oh yeah. I should go take a look at that again. Eberron definitely had a plethora of tones. Arguably, too many in my opinion, but it's clearly worked for people. Nice...
