So, what Class are you dying to play?

    1) I want to play an idealistic, gentle warlord who is motivated by an unshakable belief in the righteousness of his cause. I want him to take risks, act with rigid morality and otherwise lead by example - and I want to blend in paladin and fighter powers as well. 2) Also a foppish and foolish...

D&D 4E Kruthiks, Needlefang Drakes and Foulspawn in 4e MM

I thought the coming-of-age hook was fantastic, even if it was his least favourite. That's a great way to get the whole party together without making it seem cliched.

    Fighters -must- wear heavy armor

In 3.5 it was not easy to houserule away a fighter's heavy armor. Now it is. That's an improvement. In most games, however, niche-protection means the fighter SHOULD wear heavy armor - if fighter is generic enough to cover any class that fought, we might as well adopt a True20-like system...

What 3 classes will be in the Arcane power book?

I can't see Wizards making Tome of Treasures II exclusive to PH II power sources - otherwise no one playing a PHI class (the majority of people) would buy it. I also think Wizards will put in more support material for PH I in PH II, for the same reason - they want it be be universally popular.

Rebalancing the Bard (part I) and you!

Have you read Complete Book of Eldritch Might? Monte's take on the bard seems very similar to yours. If you are set on creating your own class, I think you're off to a good start. I would reduce the skills back to 6. I would take a look at the swordsage, factotum, dragon shaman and marshal for...

D&D 4E 4e HP speculation based on new D&D podcast

For the record, it's Dragonblade who posits 6hp for the defender. I was just explaining hit points are more likely to be distributed by class than role. 6 is the average of 1d10, while 4 is the average of 1d6 - this is equivalent to the hit point spread between fighter and bard now. I don't...

How many CP fit in a Bag of Holding?

By my calculation, there are 280 square feet in a portable hole. I don't think we know the dimensions of a copper piece - but does anyone care to guess how many coins a portable hole would fit?

D&D 4E 4e HP speculation based on new D&D podcast

Hit points will, I think, be based on class not role. It makes sense that defenders will get many hit points, but what about a martial controller? It needs more than 4 hp/level, surely. And a bard could manage with only 4 hp. I'd say: 4 hp/level: wizard, warlock 5 hp/level: rogue, ranger...

What 3 classes will be in the Arcane power book?

No, that's speculation based on the Complete books. However, it makes sense - especially since people are hungry for bards, sorcerers and swordmages.

D&D 4E What will your first 4E campaign look like?

Can I ask, how are you going to address characters from different races? Will all races live in the one tribe, or will there be allied tribes, or race restrictions?

    Unified Progression - why level/2?

As long as the bonus remains proportional to the difficulty, it can be +1,000 and the die roll will still matter. (e.g. d20 +1 vs. DC 11 compared to d20 +1,000 vs. DC 1,001 - the die roll still matters just as much).

    D&D 4E I want 4E NOW!

I kid you not, last night I dreamt I got my hands on the 4e Monster Manual... it had cartoony pictures and an enormous font, and I still loved it :D

    Initiative order & multiple attacks.

Most players are willing to sacrifice some (lots of!) realism in return for ease of play. The way rounds work in D&D is one of its biggest 'gamey' elements. I for one would not want to keep track of when each attack is made in a round.

What 'Tricks' Could Certain Classes Get?

Looking through the Dead Levels articles (I and II) as well as K's Races of War, I thought about what small abilities classes could get to make them a little more versatile out of combat. For example, giving the fighter a greater carrying capacity than his Str would allow is a nice...

D&D 4E 4e and My Setting: Can You Convince Me To Convert?

They will be adequate for your needs. No, if you want monsters to have uses outside of combat, all the work is done for you. "Once every 99 years, a pit fiend can grant a mortal's wish". That's no different to 3.5's "Once every year, a pit fiend can grant a mortal's wish".

D&D 4E 4e and My Setting: Can You Convince Me To Convert?

Monsters don't just have combat-relevant abilities, it's just that non-combat abilities are no longer listed in the statblock (c.f. pit fiend's once-in-99-years wish). Gnomes as a player race will be in the MM, released at the exact same time as the PH. The four roles are metagame not ingame...

    D&D 4E I'm Not Sure I Can Afford 4e

If you purchase the three core rulebooks ($69) and the Advanced Player's Guide (Necromancer Games), you should have the best of 3.5 along with a good deal more - new monsters, new classes, new races. If you want more than that, you will indeed need to spend more money - but that is the way of...
