d20 GAMMA WORLD: excerpts, links, Pure Strain Excitement

*sigh* One more game to buy. Dammit.

How Do You Divide Up The Plunder?

In our games, we divide the money equally (although "noob" PCs, whether run by a true newbie or a longtime group-member, usually get a half-share for the first few adventures, til we see if they will work out; the current party votes on that). Then we roll d20s for the magic items, highest roll...

    [FR] Cat Warriors?

There was also a female Tabaxi in "The Halls Of The Beast-Tamers" mini-adventure in the 1987 edition of the FR setting. She was freed by the PCs when I ran it and became an NPC member of their band. A Tabaxi character might also have escaped from a menagerie or carnival (I play a rogue/psion...

Is there ANY way for a PC to gain the Regenerate ability?

I rather imagine that a Wish would do the trick; at least, it worked for one of my PCs.

    Really, what good are daggers?

Huh, I allowed that IMC, many moons ago; a female magic-user (ouch, that dates me) would loot as many knives and daggers from the slain foes of the party as she could, and had them strapped all over her. In combat she would stand a bit back and throw knives and daggers (her decent DEX helped...

Bizarro World History 101: Monster Origins

Re: Poul Anderson Trolls- Yep, Three Hearts And Three Lions and The Broken Sword both feature what has become the D&D Troll -- on an icky note, in TBS, an Elf-Lord creates changelings by raping a captive Troll-Princess (Gah! I can still see it when I close my eyes! The horror, the horror...)...

[OT] Are there any D&D like cartoons/anime?

Yupper; "Dungeons & Dragons" was a prettty cool toon, particularly for the time that it was made, and "Thundar" was an excellent blend of post-Apocalyptic SF and fantasy tropes. Another from the early 80s was "Blackstar" (Ruby-Spears or Filmation, IIRC); also a lesser-known effort from...

[OT] Lost a furry friend this morning...

My condolences; I understand how you feel. My wife and I lost two 16-year-old cats within two months of each other, and we still miss them terribly.

    Serious Fantasy Anime (European Style)

Word; these are both brilliant, though I'm more partial to Nausicaa meself. Jeeze, most of the stuff that I like has either been mentioned already, diverges from the "no samurai", "no comedy" or "strictly fantasy" themes, or has oodles of gratuitous sex and tentacles. :(

Teen Titans: Your thoughts and mine...

Woo-hoo, Stone Boy! Deserving of the title "Most Useless Hero in the Known Universe" -- unless you needed a self-aware battering-ram. Although Color Kid prolly truly deserves that one; "Hey, I can turn the bad guy green!" And Bouncing Boy -- how'd he snag a hottie like Triplicate Girl/Duo...

[EN World Book Club] Suggestions & Selectors

I'll be honest: no I haven't. I always assumed that ordering from anyone on Amazon carried the tag "Caveat Emptor" ("Empty Your Caviar-Jar" :D ).

    Names for horses!

Just was reminded of yet another (one of these days I'll shut the hell up, I promise! :D). One of my characters ("Slade", an anarchist farm-boy-turned-vicious-street-thug) had a horse named "Horse" and a wardog named "Dog" :D (got the idea from John Wayne's character in "Big Jake", who also...

Top 25 Why You Don't Play D&D Anymore

    42) Your girlfriend convinced you to burn your books. And characters. And dice. And modules. And miniatures. And die-pouch. And pencils... (Yes, I can count...I just like the number 42...)

    Names for horses!

Ooo, Ooo, a few that I inexplicably left off: An Amerindian-influenced ranger with a buckskin medium warhorse named "Traveler" (after Robert E. Lee's horse). A wizard/rogue with an Appaloosa named "Bucephalus". A Celtic warrior with a white pegasus named "Star-Wing". He originally tried to...

    Names for horses!

Hmmm... One of my players has a pony named "Phleghm". Serveral of my own PCs have horsies, and naming them has always been one of the best parts. A Fighter/Rogue/Gunslinger/Martial Artist (a character made by mixing D&D and D20 Modern) has a blue roan named "Skipper". A girly Cleric/Bard has...

[EN World Book Club] Suggestions & Selectors

This is an interesting idea;let me add a few for consideration: Three Hearts And Three Lions by Poul Anderson (Amazon has it for under 5 bucks, and it's a very D&D-y short novel) The High Crusade also by Anderson (Aliens and Medieval knights -- very neatly done short novel -- Amazon has it...

    Poll: Kobolds and tails

Frell yeah, Kobolds have tails! IMC and the one that I play in, Kobolds have somewhat prehensile tails, even. My Kobold Sorcerer/Rogue Scred would be very, very, very unhappy without his tail.
