It's like the 'new' World of Darkness was for me.

Gotta agree with the OP. At first I was disappointed that the oWoD had come to an end. However, White Wolf had always said that they weren't going to continue it forever... they knew they were going to bring the series to an end and at least they were up front about it. I was a bit of a...

    Are Gognards killing D&D?

I mentioned the term "Backwards Compatibility" in my post. However, I totally agree with you... it was super easy to go from 1E to 2E. IMHO 2E wasn't so much a new edition as much as a somewhat streamlined and clarified (I use those terms loosely) version of 1E. There were enough people who...

    Are Gognards killing D&D?

Or like Arcana Evolved... one book with all of the rules you need to play.

    Are Gognards killing D&D?

Oh yeah... despite my last post and considering myself a Grognard I still plan on purchasing the new edition. I've taken to viewing it as a totally separate product to be evaluated on its own merits instead of being compared to the previous editions and other games from other publishers. I...

    Are Gognards killing D&D?

You've kind of contradicted yourself a bit. Yes, folks like me who've been playing for 20+ years have the greatest disposable income for the market. Never forget that gaming is entertainment and a business. Businesses exist to make money. If I were a business executive would I worry about...

    D&D 4E A Change I'd Like to see in 4E Campaign Guides

Yeah... maybe to flesh out cosmology and a broad overview of the history. However, if some of the material was shunted to the smaller "town setting" guides the main campaign setting guide could be smaller and hopefully less expensive.

    D&D 4E A Change I'd Like to see in 4E Campaign Guides

I think there has been some misunderstanding... I'd like a series of inexpensive softcover books that details a "town" and the surrounding countryside. It is vitally important that they not be setting specific. They'd be very much like a cross between Freeport and Volo's Guide to Waterdeep...

    D&D 4E A Change I'd Like to see in 4E Campaign Guides

On the contrary... I think that if you had smaller "City Guides" with a smaller sales cost more people would be inclined to pick them up. I'd certainly spend more money on several $10-$15 city/town guides than on a single $40-$50 campaign setting guide. But then again, that is just me... I...

    D&D 4E A Change I'd Like to see in 4E Campaign Guides

I'm really jazzed about the "Points of Light" concept for 4E. That said I think it is time for an overhaul on how Campaign Setting Guides are produced. In keeping with POL mentality we no longer need to have tomes such as the 3E Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting Guide. There is no need to...

D&D 4E What would make you decide against 4e?

That the majority of the role-playing community decided NOT to embrace it thus making it hard to find a group playing it... that'd pretty much eliminate my plans to purchase it. I've never been real picky about what system I play since it is my belief that the same stories can be told with...

Honestly, how often have you used gnomes?

Some of my favorite characters have been Gnomes. I for one will miss seeing them as a character option... :(

    Will you buy 4th edition?

And this is new to you? :) That has been my opinion of 3E since the day I first thumbed through it. 3.XE IMHO is closer to a tabletop miniatures game than a real role-playing game (emphasis on the "ROLE"). The combat system with it's 5' steps and attacks-of-opportunity pretty much demand...

    Will you buy 4th edition?

I'll buy it sight-unseen not necessarily because I think it will be so much better than any of the older editions but because it is always easier to find groups playing the current edition than older editions. I'd rather be playing an edition that I'm not totally crazy about than not playing at...

Once you go C&C, you never go back

I absolutely love it and would love to run it but the people in my group have gotten somewhat spoiled on the options for character development through Feats. There isn't a whole lot of interest in switching to it.

How do you feel about Fluff in your Crunch?

I much prefer Crunch in my Fluff. :) The core rules, IMHO, should have no fluff at all beyond your standard generic fantasy fluff (dwarves live in mountains and are grumpy). The Campaign Setting books should contain the Fluff and a healthy dose of Crunch too so as to gear the core rules to...

What to put on DM laptop?

Broadband service, Firefox (or IE7 if you prefer) A link to the Hypertext d20 SRD http://www.d20srd.org/ Open up a separate browser tab for everything you need. :) Music would be nice too as would fantasy art depicting what you are describing to the players.

    An end to scry-buff-teleport?

That's because half of the fun of the Bond movie is seeing him accomplish the following prior to the "Throne Room" confrontation: 1) Drive a submarine car to a remote uncharted island. 2) Deactivate/Decoy permimeter defenses. 3) Incapacitate some inept guards with a judo chop to the neck. 4)...

    How to do Romance?

In most cases I'd be inclined to agree. It only works with a VERY mature group who can keep the joking down and actually approach the subject in a serious matter. I've been with ONE group that could successfully pull it off in the 26 years I've been roleplaying. If your group is mostly...

PCs using their abilities - a favor to the party?

Totally agree... I think some of the feeling is a result of the healing being Expected. If a Cleric uses one of his spells for something other than healing and as a result the party can't get back to full health after an encounter then it is generally seen as a waste of a spell (IMPE)...
